Chapter 1814: Disturbance in the Distance
As the group of eight slowly made their way through the ancient pagoda searching for knowledge that might have been left behind, it didn’t take them long to find a few scrolls with some simple formations inscribed on them. Unfortunately, the treasure trove that they had expected to find was nowhere in sight, as those few formations were at most considered usable to someone starting out in learning formations. At most, it provided a unique perspective on the Dao of Formations, but outside of that, it didn’t really bring any real benefits to the formation masters.
Any of the precious information that they had all been excited to get their hands on had long since decayed or was stored inside the still preserved section of the pagoda that was still guarded by a terrifying formation that should had reached the Saint Grade... And not just a normal Saint Grade Formation, but a top quality one that made the Saint Grade formation on the flying ship seem like a complete mess in comparison.
Even though the group of formation masters wanted to attempt breaking the formation to get their hands on the knowledge it guarded, they also understood that there was absolutely no way for them to do so with their current realm. After all, their ability to break through the Saint Grad Formation on the flying ship had mainly relied on a flaw that the one creating the formation had left behind by accident due to either finishing it too fast or wanting to skimp on the resources used in its construction.
The formation guarding the pagoda wasn’t like that and no expenses were spared in its construction. Ensuring that even after countless years, it remained in place to guard the knowledge that it had originally been tasked with guarding. Showing no signs decay, as it had essentially avoided damage by shrinking the area it covered until it focused entirely on guarding the core of the pagoda where the most precious knowledge was stored.
Although a few of the formation masters did think about attempting to bring down the pagoda and potentially destroy the formation in this way by attacking the supporting structure that held up the pagoda, they soon discovered that the different supporting pillars of the pagoda were still in a pristine state. Meaning they were still covered by the formation guarding the pagoda.
Even then, this failure didn’t intimidate the group of formation masters, as they continued looking for ways to potentially bring down the formation guarding the third floor of the pagoda... And given that they weren’t doing anything dangerous like trying to test out the formation, Chu Yang didn’t mind the actions of the formation masters, who were in a sense just using the formation guarding the pagoda to further their own comprehension of the Dao of Formations.
All considered, despite his earlier worries, the pagoda proved to be a safe location for them to settle down while waiting for his master to show up and so, Chu Yang found himself a quiet corner to meditate on his own while waiting. Keeping part of his divine sense focused on the entrance to the pagoda in case any demon beast happened to find their way inside.
At the same time, also any wandering cultivators, as some of those left behind might stumble upon the ancient pagoda like they had and decide to enter it to either investigate or escape pursuit of some powerful demon beast chasing after them.
Although, with the current state of the forest, the latter was far more likely than the first. After all, the main goal of everyone was to escape from the ancient alchemy sect’s ruins alive. Entering the ancient ruins scattered around was not the first thing one would do unless in a life and death situation where the potentially formations and traps hidden inside the ancient ruins might prove lifesaving.
Soon enough, another two hours flew by with the group of formation masters busying themselves trying to comprehend the Dao of Formations through observing the guardian formation of the ancient three-tiered formation from a distance.
Everything was peaceful and any worry Chu Yang had earlier had about the ancient pagoda had almost completely disappeared now, though another worry that did start to emerge with the passage of time and that was the simple question of where his master was.
Although his current situation could be considered somewhat safe, he understood deep down that this was only a temporary situation, the true reliance he had was the belief that his master would come and save him from the ancient alchemy sect’s ruins.
Even though the group of formation masters hadn’t mentioned anything so far, it was clear that they had also begun feeling the same sense of unease he had.
The main reason why they had not said anything likely had to do with the fact that they were in a safe location without any immediate danger and had the opportunity to further their own understanding of the Dao of Formations by observing and analyzing an ancient formation far exceeding their own realm.
In a sense, the presence of the ancient formation guarding the pagoda could be considered a lifeline to Chu Yang, as he understood that its presence was the main reason why the group of formation masters hadn’t bothered asking him about when they could leave like he had told them in the past.
But... This situation wouldn’t last forever, in another hour or two, he guessed that one of them would finally decide to broach the question to him...
Rumble~
"Huh?" In the process of trying to figure out what to say in case one of the formation masters did come over to ask him about the situation, Chu Yang suddenly heard another rumbling sound in the distance not too dissimilar to the one he had heard earlier before the demon beasts throughout the forest had become active again-
BOOOOM-!
The main difference was this rumbling sound followed by a loud explosion that sent a shockwave of violent spiritual energy through the forest-
BANG-!
RUUUMBLE~~~!
And the second it hit the pagoda, the formation at the core that had remained dormant so far, sprung to life...
