Chapter 70 - Quyuan Street

Chapter 70 - Quyuan Street

“No, I don’t think so!” Yimeng Xiaoyao shook his head firmly. “I believe a tiger that can roar me to death ten times over doesn’t need a soft player like me to save it.”

Everyone: “…”

Bai Yi Piaopiao, who had originally been convinced by Du Gu Zhuo, also said, “He has a point. I’ve been roared to death twice myself. I really don’t think I have the strength to save a tiger.”

Ti Tou Lai Jian added, “Besides, the white tiger is already so strong. As for the villains that can threaten it… can we even beat them?”

Seeing the disbelief on everyone’s faces, Du Gu Zhuo said, “Since taking the mission order won’t work, why don’t we try something else?”

The team agreed to this; after all, they’d died so many times already. This time, they might as well follow Du Gu Zhuo’s lead completely.

“Wait a moment, let me make a record,” Yimeng Xiaoyao said.

**[Broadcast] Yimeng Xiaoyao:** “Eleventh attempt at the Yao Ling Huya dungeon. This time we’re trying a different method. Wait for my good news.”

“Hmm, we’ll wait for you to be killed eleven times.”

“Remember to store all your silver and spirit stones.”

“Don’t bring any valuable weapons or equipment either. Just thinking about that Soul Summoning Bell you lost to the tiger makes my heart ache.”

Players in the game offered Yimeng Xiaoyao their “best” wishes.

“Just watch, this time I have a pro leading the team,” Yimeng Xiaoyao muttered.

Ye Zhou asked Du Gu Zhuo, “If we can’t take the mission order, how do we start the Yao Ling Huya dungeon?”

Du Gu Zhuo replied, “Didn’t the mission order give a hint? The disciple who wrote down the mission order at the Tingyu Pavilion, he left his seal on it.”

Everyone gathered around to look at the writing on the seal. Ti Tou Lai Jian pressed his head against the mission order, but eventually gave up, saying, “I can’t read these characters.”

After some time, Ye Zhou identified it, “It says ‘You Lang’.”

“You recognize this script? Is it seal script or small seal script?” Ye Jian asked, curious about his cousin.

Ye Zhou had spent the last ten years reading books at home out of boredom, so Ye Jian didn’t really question his cousin’s sudden ability to read such complex characters.

“It’s small seal script,” Du Gu Zhuo glanced at Ye Zhou.

Ye Zhou didn’t say anything. He found it strange too, as he hadn’t studied this script but somehow recognized the two characters naturally.

“So next, we’re going to the Tingyu Pavilion to find this disciple named You Lang, right?” Yimeng Xiaoyao asked.

Yimeng Xiaoyao was an avid gamer and a challenge enthusiast, so he acted swiftly. After confirming the NPC’s name, he started asking around everywhere in the Tingyu Pavilion.

This tea house, where missions were received and posted, was run by the Tingyu Pavilion, and all its staff were affiliated with the pavilion. Yimeng Xiaoyao talked to each NPC one by one until finally, in the backyard, a young girl gave him some information about You Lang.

“Are you asking about Senior Brother You? I’m not sure what’s been going on with him lately, but he’s been collecting animal teeth everywhere. Right now, he’s probably gone shopping at Quyuan Street,” the girl replied.

Quyuan Street was a distinctive district in Beining City. When the city first opened, Ye Jian had visited it and even considered opening a shop there.

The street had a wide variety of goods, from antiques to farm tools, and every day different NPCs set up stalls with no fixed schedule.

Players might find something they liked at a stall one day, but if they didn’t buy it due to lack of funds or thinking it was too expensive, they might come back the next day only to find that the stall was gone. Finding that same vendor or item again would depend on luck.

This randomness gave Quyuan Street its name.

Everything there was based on interest and fate.

On the first day Beining City’s map was opened, a player randomly bought a beautiful pen on Quyuan Street. It wasn’t expensive, costing only 100 low-grade spirit stones, and he bought it just because it looked pleasing.

However, when he later killed an elite monster, the pen suddenly heated up, and when he took it out, he casually drew an identical elite monster in the air.

The elite monster duplicated 70% of the original’s power and fought alongside the player, helping him kill three or four smaller monsters before dying.

Only then did the player realize that the pen was actually a divine artifact! It could record the appearance of three game monsters, replicate 70% of their strength, and inherit two of their random skills. Even dungeon bosses could be recorded, although the replication would only have 50% of their power.

Although the pen could only be used once in battle, the player could delete any of the three recorded monsters, and every ten levels, he could delete one recording for free. Alternatively, he could spend 1,000 low-grade spirit stones to delete a recording, meaning that the pen’s power would grow as the player leveled up.

This meant that the player could carry an incredibly powerful summoned beast, and the beast’s strength could increase along with the player.

The pen had only cost the player 100 low-grade spirit stones, which was equivalent to just 10 yuan in real currency!

Someone immediately offered a million low-grade spirit stones for the pen, but the player didn’t sell it. Instead, he spent money on a name-change voucher and renamed himself “Shenbi Shusheng” (The Divine Brush Scholar).

From then on, Quyuan Street in Beining City became famous throughout the entire game. Even though most players ended up buying junk for a high price, it didn’t stop them from eagerly searching for their own “fate.”

Now, Quyuan Street was known in the game as “The Street of Taobao,” “The Street of Blind Boxes,” and “The Street of Gacha.” Many players, after saving enough money, would come to Quyuan Street to search for their “fate.” Of course, most of them would end up broke, having to go back to slaying monsters and completing missions to earn more money.

Quyuan Street had hundreds of stalls, stretching for thousands of meters, and the vendors constantly moved around. The stall you visited today might be gone tomorrow, with no set pattern. Missing out on an item meant you might never see it again.

Thus, the street’s slogan was “All based on fate.”

Finding You Lang, whose appearance was unknown, on a street like this seemed nearly impossible. Yimeng Xiaoyao stood at the entrance, looking at the bustling crowd, and felt utterly hopeless. “What do we do? Even if the six of us split up, we might not find him.”

“No need to rush,” Du Gu Zhuo said leisurely. “Since this is Quyuan Street, let’s see if we have a destined encounter with the Yao Ling Huya dungeon.”

It was indeed slow work to chat with every player and NPC to find someone specific. But scanning all the stalls on a street just a few kilometers long was much easier.

Du Gu Zhuo led the dungeon team down Quyuan Street, glancing at many stalls and quickly moving past them without stopping.

After passing over a hundred stalls, he suddenly halted at a booth selling animal hides and tooth jewelry. His gaze fell on a wolf fang necklace, and he bent down to pick it up.

But just as he reached for it, another hand extended toward the necklace. As if anticipating that someone would snatch it, Du Gu Zhuo released a burst of true energy. With a slight flick of his fingers, the necklace flew straight into his hand.

He immediately said, “Boss, how much for this necklace? I’ll take it.”

He tossed 100 low-grade spirit stones to the vendor as he spoke.

The vendor smiled and said, “That’s enough, the necklace is yours, sir.”

The person who had tried to grab the necklace was clearly a martial artist, with thick eyebrows, bright eyes, and an air of righteousness. Seeing Du Gu Zhuo buy the necklace first, he said, “Young master, could you sell that necklace to me? I’m willing to pay ten times the price; it’s very important to me.”

Instead of handing it over, Du Gu Zhuo asked, “You Lang?”

The man was slightly taken aback. “Young master, do you know me? I am indeed You Lang from the Tingyu Pavilion.”

Yimeng Xiaoyao: “How… how did you find him?”

With so many people on Quyuan Street, Du Gu Zhuo had simply walked to a booth selling a tooth necklace and bumped into You Lang. What kind of luck was that?

Ti Tou Lai Jian: “Could it really be fate?”

Ye Zhou shot him a glance and said, “How could it be fate? Everything Du Gu Zhuo does is for a reason. The little girl at the Tingyu Pavilion said You Lang was obsessed with animal teeth lately, and our dungeon is called Yao Ling Huya, which means it must be related to beast fangs. Du Gu Zhuo came to Quyuan Street with the purpose of heading straight for the tooth jewelry stalls. When he selected the necklace that would trigger the dungeon, it naturally drew You Lang in. This isn’t fate; it’s logical analysis and a calculated trigger.”

Bai Yi Piaopiao detected a hint of envy in Ye Zhou’s tone and smacked his younger brother’s head, saying, “Stop talking about fate. What kind of fate do players and NPCs have?”

Ti Tou Lai Jian: “Oh.”

Du Gu Zhuo heard what Ye Zhou said and couldn’t help but curl his lips slightly. However, he quickly remembered the task at hand and suppressed his smile, turning serious again. “I can sell it to you, but I want to know why you need this wolf fang necklace so much.”

You Lang explained, “The largest fang in the middle of this necklace isn’t actually a wolf fang. It’s a tiger fang. I’ve been searching for this particular fang… Ah, it was my mistake, really. I was momentarily blinded by spirits and ended up issuing that kind of mission.”

“Oh? A tiger fang?” Du Gu Zhuo prodded the huge fang with his finger. “This tooth is much larger than an ordinary tiger’s.”

“That’s because it belongs to a tiger spirit that was about to take on a human form,” You Lang sighed. He glanced at Yimeng Xiaoyao, who had been killed by the tiger ten times, and said, “I’m guessing you’ve encountered that tiger spirit? It’s much larger than an ordinary tiger, right?”

Yimeng Xiaoyao responded, “It’s definitely much bigger, but how do you know I’ve seen that tiger?”

You Lang replied, “You have its spiritual aura on you. It seems the tiger doesn’t like you very much.”

Yimeng Xiaoyao grumbled, “I’ve been roared to death by it ten times, and I don’t even hate it! But it doesn’t like me first? That tiger’s got a bad temper—so moody!”

Du Gu Zhuo: “…”

He thought about the tiger’s constantly fluctuating favorability rating and had to admit Yimeng Xiaoyao might have a point.

You Lang continued, “A while ago, an old man came to me, saying that their village was being tormented by a tiger demon, and they had no choice but to pool their money to ask the Tingyu Pavilion for help in subduing it. I believed him and issued the mission. Once a mission order is issued by the Tingyu Pavilion, it can’t be canceled unless the person who posted the mission dies. Otherwise, people will keep trying to harm that tiger spirit.”

“So, according to you, this tiger spirit isn’t actually evil?” Du Gu Zhuo asked.

You Lang explained, “After issuing the mission order, I felt something was wrong, so I went to Tiger Roar Mountain to investigate and saw the tiger spirit for myself. That’s when I realized I’d been deceived. The villagers of Stone Drum Village are actually a group of evil cultivators. They’re targeting the tiger spirit because they want to get its demon core!”
