Chapter 1388: Mirage (Part 2)
“Alright!”
The Medicine Spirit no longer pondered much.
Having agreed, he followed Ning Qi to continue on their journey.
They passed through the Gobi Desert scattered with bones, and quickly reached the desert region.
Here, indeed, there were not many corpses left.
However, the further they walked forward, the more a feeling of palpitating unease arose.
“Master, is there an ambush here?”
The Medicine Spirit suddenly remembered what Ning Qi just said.
If it is true, they need to be careful.
“We have to move forward and see the situation,”
Ning Qi did not analyze further.
He simply chose to take one step at a time.
“Master, be cautious, I keep feeling there’s something unusual here.”
The Medicine Spirit stayed on his shoulder rather than roaming around.
The eyes were filled with a look of worry.
Constantly on alert for the surrounding situation.
Ning Qi continued, walking forward steadily.
Soon, they arrived at the depths of the desert.
“Master, look, there’s an oasis ahead!”
The Medicine Spirit suddenly noticed something and excitedly pointed towards the front, telling Ning Qi, “Finally, a place to rest for a while.”
“Good, let’s go over and see what’s going on.”
Ning Qi looked ahead and then moved forward with the Medicine Spirit.
They walked for about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, finally arriving at the oasis seen by the Medicine Spirit.
Here was an oasis, not very large, but with plenty of immortal grass and rare plants.
There was also a small patch of woodland.
At the center was a small lake.
They came to the water’s edge and saw groups of fish swimming in the lake.
“Truly remarkable, there’s actually life here.”
The Medicine Spirit danced around, continuously observing the situation here: “Master, do you think there might be treasure here?”
“We shall see.”
Ning Qi said nothing.
He simply spread out his Divine Sense.
However, he found nothing.
But, upon extending his Divine Sense into the lake, it suddenly reacted.
“What is it?”
The Medicine Spirit noticed Ning Qi’s reaction and immediately came over to inquire.
“There’s something in here.”
Ning Qi regained his focus and turned his attention to the lake: “Let’s see what it’s about.”
“Alright!”
The Medicine Spirit agreed and followed Ning Qi directly to the lake’s surface.
Ning Qi took a deep breath then plunged into the lake.
In the water, he summoned the Black Tortoise.
“Master!”
The Black Tortoise bowed respectfully.
“Come, take me downwards, let’s see what’s wrong here.”
Ning Qi pointed towards the lake’s depths and spoke to the Black Tortoise.
“Yes!”
The Black Tortoise agreed, then swiftly transformed.
Turning into armor, it landed on Ning Qi’s body.
With the armor, Ning Qi was completely unfazed by the water.
Feeling empowered like a fish in water.
Thus, he sped up and swam downwards.
With just a blink of an eye, he reached the deeper part of the lake.
However, surprisingly, the lake seemed like a bottomless pit, unreachable.
“Strange, what’s going on?”
Ning Qi looked down and furrowed his brow.
Clearly, he could see the lake’s bottom, it was within reach.
Yet, no matter what, it was untouchable.
“Master, is there perhaps an array here?”
The Medicine Spirit couldn’t help but remind him: “Otherwise, why is it so strange?”
“Maybe, I’ll give it a try.”
Ning Qi nodded, then operated the Dao Pattern.
A ripple of water spread out.
Soon it dissolved into the lake, and after a few breaths, Ning Qi regained his senses.
“How is it?”
The Medicine Spirit came over instantly to inquire.
“No restriction or array.”
Ning Qi shook his head.
“Then what do we do, should we go further down?”
The Medicine Spirit showed concern upon hearing this: “I feel there’s something below.”
“Go down and look, otherwise it would be a waste to come here.”
Ning Qi decided, and continued to swim down.
Gradually, he felt the bottom getting further away from him.
Then he looked back up.
Upon seeing, he furrowed his brow.
He found the sky above him had turned into a well.
“Wrong.”
The Medicine Spirit also realized something was amiss: “Master, have we been trapped?”
“If that’s the case, then you’ve lost.”
Ning Qi chuckled and looked at the Medicine Spirit.
“Yes, I concede, but are we trapped?”
“Why does this exit seem to be getting smaller?”
The Medicine Spirit was now fully focused.
Intent on figuring out what’s going on.
“Let’s go, return upward, I want to see which god is playing tricks on us.”
Ning Qi said and swam upwards.
In this process, he continually sped up, ultimately unleashing his full strength.
Yet no matter what, the exit above remained small.
Just like below, perpetually unreachable.
“Master, it seems we’ve truly been deceived.”
“But you checked earlier, there was no array restriction here, what’s going on?”
The Medicine Spirit looked up and then back down.
Frowning tightly.
No matter how hard he thought, he couldn’t figure it out.
“Don’t you find it very strange.”
Ning Qi suddenly thought of something and asked.
“Strange? Strange where?”
The Medicine Spirit asked, puzzled.
He hadn’t noticed anything, unaware of Ning Qi’s pondering.
“This was desert, why is there an oasis?”
Ning Qi thought carefully and seriously said: “There’s something odd here.”
“Ah, Master, do you mean we’ve been entrapped from the start?”
The Medicine Spirit suddenly seemed to understand: “But how did we miss it?”
“Since it’s a trap, why hasn’t anyone shown themselves? Are they watching to laugh at us?”
“This place has been abandoned for who knows how long, do you think even if someone was plotting against us, they’d still be alive?”
Ning Qi theorized while swimming back up: “So, it’s likely an old trap set here.”
“Waiting specifically to lure someone in, and then catch them off guard.”
“So what do we do? We’re trapped.”
The Medicine Spirit became worried and watched keenly: “I felt something was wrong when we came down.”
“When we first saw the fish, why did they disappear upon us diving down?”
“And here it’s a lake, why haven’t we seen any fish after swimming for so long?”
“Right, that’s the problem!”
“This is a space of illusion, everything is Illusion!”
Ning Qi nodded, then surveyed the surroundings: “There won’t be any real life here.”
“The fish we saw earlier, from that moment we were caught in an illusion.”
“Huh? You’re saying it’s all an illusion?”
The Medicine Spirit revealed confusion after hearing his analysis: “But when was this illusion set up? Why didn’t we notice?”
“Would we have come down if we’d noticed?”
Ning Qi chuckled and said: “In that case, let’s see how the illusion is broken!”
“Master, is this perhaps a mirage?”
The Medicine Spirit suddenly thought of something, hurried to ask.
“No, if it was, would we be so immersed?”
“This place, if it’s indeed like that, even after a year, we may never find its location.”
Ning Qi promptly denied his analysis.
“This isn’t it, nor is that, but we can’t stay trapped here forever, right?”
The Medicine Spirit sighed and spread his hands.
