Chapter 2622: A New Mission
Chapter 2622: A New Mission
When Yuan arrived at the mission hall, he immediately noticed that nearly everyone inside was glaring at him.
Of course, there was no malice behind their stares. They were simply curious and a little awestruck to finally see Corporal Yuan, who had been a hot topic lately.
"Is that him?"
"Yep. That’s the Cleaning Maniac."
"This might sound strange, but he looks... out of place. Like he doesn’t belong here."
"I know what you mean. He’s practically a monster walking among humans."
"No, I mean something about him feels otherworldly."
The soldiers chatted among themselves without pause, yet for some reason, not a single one dared to approach Yuan.
Eventually, just as Yuan was about to reach the machines to accept a mission, several soldiers finally gathered the courage to approach him.
However, before they could reach him, another group suddenly cut them off.
"Hey, watch where you’re—" The soldier who had been shoved aside was about to curse, but the words died in his throat the moment he saw their faces and recognized who they were.
Then, without a word, they backed away and silently watched as this group of soldiers approached Yuan.
"Are you Corporal Yuan?"
The group consisted of five individuals, and the one who addressed him was a tall, broad-shouldered man.
Yuan turned toward them. "Who’s asking?"
The man frowned. "Is that any way to speak to your superior?"
Yuan glanced at the insignia on the man’s chest. Two black bars. It was the same rank that Captain Gu had.
However, before Yuan could respond, another soldier from the group stepped forward with a friendly smile.
"There’s no need to be so tense. I’m Captain Chen, and this large, stern-looking fellow is Captain Dung. You don’t need to be overly formal with us, either."
"In that case... what do you want from me?"
"We have a proposition for you, but it’s not something we can talk about here. Can we go somewhere more quiet?"
"Can it wait until I grab my mission?" Yuan asked.
Captain Chen chuckled and said, "You won’t even care about your mission once you hear what we have in store for you."
"Is that so?"
After pondering for a moment, Yuan nodded.
"Sure, let’s go."
Captain Chen wasn’t expecting Yuan to agree so readily, but he remained calm and said, "Follow us."
Once Yuan left with the group, the soldiers began mumbling to each other.
"Wasn’t that...?"
"Yes..."
"I wonder what sort of business they have with Corporal Yuan."
"They’re probably going to confirm the rumors."
"You mean whether he can really defeat a Void Guardian by himself or not?"
Meanwhile, after leaving the mission hall, Yuan followed Captain Chen and the other four soldiers to a private room.
"Before I reveal our offer to you, I must ask you something. I heard that you’ve been doing missions nonstop. Is there a reason you’re working so hard?" Captain Chen asked Yuan.
"To receive fast promotions, of course."
"Is it really so simple?"
"Why else would I be doing so many missions? Isn’t it the goal of every soldier to raise their ranks?" Yuan shrugged.
"Fair enough, as I was once just like you." Captain Chen gave a hearty laugh. "Anyway, let’s get to the point."
"Corporal Yuan, how would you like to join us on a mission?"
"I’m listening," Yuan responded, looking like his interest was piqued.
"It’s a gathering mission, similar to the ones you’ve been doing, but on a much larger scale, and it will take place in the Purple Zone. If you want to receive fast promotions, then you can only go above and beyond."
"The Purple Zone, huh? That does sound interesting... However, don’t I need to pass an exam before I can accept missions there, as I did for the Red Zone?" Yuan asked.
"Normally, yes. However, with the approval and supervision of at least three captains, you can receive special permission to enter the Purple Zone, and as you can see, there are five of us here."
Yuan pondered for a moment before asking, "May I ask why you’re inviting a mere corporal like me to join your mission? If you’re short on members, surely there are plenty of more qualified soldiers available."
"To be honest, we’ve heard a lot of stories about you, and we’d like to see for ourselves if they’re true. More importantly, we want to find out where your limits truly lie. If you’re worried about the danger, don’t be. We’ll make sure nothing happens to you."
Yuan closed his eyes and seemed to be pondering again.
Worried that Yuan might refuse, Captain Chen suddenly added, "If you complete the mission, we’ll recommend you for a meritorious promotion."
"I was waiting for you to say that." Yuan opened his eyes and said with a smile. "When do we start?"
"We can leave for the mission right now."
"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get started!" Yuan exclaimed excitedly, showing a level of impatience that might lead one to think it was his first mission.
"Alright. Then let’s leave for the mission now."
Without any delay, they immediately made their way to the northern gate.
Upon reaching the gate, they headed straight for the teleporter, bypassing the soldiers stationed there.
This was a first for Yuan, as the guards normally checked the identity of everyone in the squad and their mission details before allowing them to use the teleporter.
However, the soldiers on duty did not say anything, merely giving them a glance before turning a blind eye to it.
Seeing this, Yuan confirmed his suspicions.
’Looks like they’ve finally decided to act,’ he smiled inwardly, as he’d been waiting for this opportunity.
Despite knowing full well that he was walking into a trap, Yuan stepped into it willingly—even gleefully. After all, this opportunity would allow him to enter the Purple Zone far sooner than he had anticipated.
Shortly after Yuan left the city, Mei Feng received word that several of General Gu’s soldiers had approached him inside the mission hall and taken him somewhere.
