Chapter 1151: The Scheme Unfolds (5)
At that moment, the Myth of White Swordsman recalled everything that had happened, including both coalition founders’ conversation while he was under the Myth of Oracle’s strange spell.
Disbelief was written all over his face as he broke into a cold sweat despite his current power rank, not to mention the strange mind state and agitation he had been feeling all this time, which vanished as relief washed over him.
It was like everything was back in place, and he had escaped a cage.
"Heh, now you know..." Myth of Reverend couldn’t help but snicker, "Your memories have been tampered with, and I helped you regain what you have lost."
Myth of White Swordsman snapped back to reality as he looked at the sitting silhouette with a complicated look, which also contained a hint of dread, because he still couldn’t comprehend how the Myth of Reverend had done it.
Moreover, after he remembered everything, he was sure that the Myth of Oracle was powerful, at least in her ability to interfere with one’s mind. Yet, the Myth of Reverend was still able to cancel them.
"Although these memories are indeed new, how should I believe you hadn’t put them there to cover your own tracks? Furthermore, in those memories, I was clearly under the Myth of Oracle’s spell and spoke the truth about the Secret Fraternity.
"Yet, I didn’t mention your name, while I clearly knew you were involved. So, forgive me for being skeptical about this whole thing and not being able to trust you completely." Myth of White Swordsman impassively stated that he was now more vigilant towards Myth of Reverend and the coalition founders.
"Well, you do have a point. But I know that you know better than me whether those memories are false or real." Myth of Reverend coolly stated with a hint of amusement.
Myth of White Swordsman was speechless as he couldn’t retort because, just as Myth of Reverend had said, he knew those memories weren’t false, and with his mind now calmer than ever, he believed Myth of Reverend even more.
Without waiting, Myth of Reverend continued, "As for why you weren’t able to mention me in front of them, it’s pretty simple, actually. You see, I’m a very private person, which makes me cautious, and I know there are abilities far beyond what you and I can comprehend.
"That’s why, as a precaution, I have placed a secret method on the members of the Secret Fraternity. This method is harmless and won’t do anything except when someone like the Myth of Oracle you just mentioned tries to probe something about me; you will forget about me completely until you meet me again.
"Furthermore, this method also served as a ’contamination’ against these sorts of abilities. Meaning, no matter how perfect the ability or spell is, this method will contaminate it and make the victim restless until they are liberated.
"Usually, if you keep doing what you’ve been doing and follow that feeling left behind by my method, you would’ve been able to break free from that ability eventually. I just happened to accelerate that process as the owner of that contamination."
Realization dawned on Myth of White Swordsman at that moment, and he finally understood the meaning behind Myth of Reverend’s cryptic words that he had spoken at the start.
Nonetheless, Myth of White Swordsman was still skeptical about all of this. He felt that the Myth of Reverend was powerful, allowing him to place a ’method’ on even Quasi-Myths without them realizing anything.
Moreover, that method was potent enough to make them forget everything about the Myth of Reverend keeping his identity absolutely secret.
Myth of White Swordsman inhaled sharply as he decided to put these thoughts back into his mind because he knew he couldn’t trust everything until he personally investigated this.
If everything were as the Myth of Reverend had said, he would make the coalition founders pay for playing with his mind.
"What about Myth of Myriad Cries? Why do you have his ’Secrecy Ring’? Furthermore, why did you decide to show yourself to me? I thought you were a private person." The Myth of White Swordsman was coldly questioned.
"I was played..." Myth of Reverend’s voice turned cold and sharp when he said those words, and even Myth of White Swordsman felt killing intent.
"Played? Do you mean...?" Myth of White Swordsman probed.
Myth of Reverend coldly replied, "Indeed, I was given false information about the Secret Fraternity’s target and sent Myth of Myriad Cries and Myth of Earth to scout.
"However, when they reached the target location, their Secrecy Rings went dormant, and their soul sigil plates lost connection as well. This could only mean they were confined to at least a Quasi-Myth rank confinement.
"Which means whoever has done this is pretty strong, not to mention they have the means to take care of not one but two Quasi-Myths simultaneously with no ability to flee or send even a distress signal.
"Lastly, the Secrecy Ring was invented by me, so I naturally have ways to transmit all the contacts to my ring in case something happened to the Secret Fraternity members.
"That’s why when Myth of Myriad Cries was contacted, I was the one who answered, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect because I was also going to contact you since everything has turned into a mess, and as of right now, Secret Fraternity only has you and me as Quasi-Myths while other members are mere cannon fodder."
Myth of White Swordsman was stumped when he heard the distressing news about two more Quasi-Myths of Secret Fraternity having gone missing after Myth of Justice’s disappearance, and he couldn’t help but feel dread as if an invisible hand was gripping around his neck.
"What do you expect me to do?!" Myth of White Swordsman curtly retorted, "Three Quasi-Myths of your organization have already vanished, and your so-called target is in the wind. Furthermore, have you even considered the possibility that the target might be the exact reason all of this has been happening to us?
"When I joined your little group, I wasn’t told about these sorts of dangers, not to mention other hidden parties interested in the same thing. Moreover, you have been hiding who knows where while manipulating things behind the scenes, safe and sound."
Myth of White Swordsman decisively spat without mincing his words, "Sorry to break it to you, but I’m not going to be a part of your little organization anymore, for everything related to it is already doomed!"
Myth of Reverend didn’t react excessively at Myth of White Swordsman’s bluntly drawing a line between them, and it almost seemed as if he was expecting it.
"You don’t have to worry about me asking you to do some mission for me because even I’m not foolish enough to believe you will follow this doomed cause; even I won’t." Myth of Reverend impassively stated, "All I’m asking you is this..."
Myth of White Swordsman narrowed his eyes when he heard this and was curious about what Myth of Reverend would ask of him, but when he actually listened to what it was, he was flabbergasted...
Myth of Reverend cynically asked, "...help me join the Mythical Coalition!"
