Chapter 1177: Playground of the Undead (2)
At this moment, within the innermost chamber of the Sanctuary Bastion, the three pillars of the Life Faction stood together.
The Giant War King no longer sat upon a towering throne. He stood, arms folded, jaw tight, armor bearing visible cracks from days of relentless engagement.
The Wise King looked far less amused than usual. His violet armor was dulled, his silvery eyes shadowed by exhaustion. Even his posture lacked its usual theatrical arrogance.
The Spirit Eye King remained composed, but her third eye was faintly dim, clearly overused from scanning the undead tides and probing for the spell’s source.
Around the three leaders stood other surviving Legendary Kings, and their appearances were even worse as they all had suffered grave injuries and had exhausted almost everything to just live.
The atmosphere of the chamber was heavy.
"No exit. No breach. No anomaly fluctuation in spatial parameters," the Spirit Eye King stated calmly, though her tone carried unmistakable gravity. "It’s all the same, no matter how much our men tried, whether from inside or outside, this damn place is fully enclosed."
The Wise King exhaled slowly as he grimly said. "Our Soul Star Watches confirm the same across every attempted escape vector. It is as though the continent itself has been rewritten, and even our allies are now slowly backing off."
The Giant War King’s massive fist tightened as he wanted to escape the Sagittarius Continent more than anyone.
"Then we march to the Undead Skyfall Canyons and crush the source." He stated, albeit his voice lacked confidence.
"Oh? And you’re going to be the vanguard?" The Wise King retorted mockingly, as he no longer cared about whether the Giant War King was stronger than him.
The Spirit Eye King remained silent, but a hint of disdain flickered past her eyes as if she was fully agreeing with the Wise King.
Even the Legendary Kings standing there remained silent, but they felt deep scorn in their hearts for the Giant War King.
They had all watched how the Giant War King escaped while continuously using his allies as a shield, and if it wasn’t for his cowardly actions, they probably wouldn’t have suffered so many losses.
Right now, everything within the Life Faction fully believed in the scandal between the Giant War King and Champion King, and the former’s prestige was at an all-time low.
Nonetheless, the Giant War King was still the strongest among the Legendary Kings, and since they needed all the combatants at their disposal, they couldn’t just join hands and get rid of him.
However, as time passed, the situation of the Life Faction was becoming grave and dangerous, and their mortals were at their lowest because they all knew they couldn’t get out of the Sagittarius Continent, and even their factions were starting to give up on them.
Moreover, the Giant War King was becoming more anxious and impulsive, sending Legendary Lords and Nobles outside to be scouts and see if they could find any way out.
The Giant War King’s eyes went cold as his fierce aura flickered violently, but the Wise King remained still without any ounce of fear.
The Giant War King gritted his teeth and kept himself in check because he was no fool, and he already knew what was going on. No matter how fierce or overbearing he was, he knew if he pushed them too much, they might finally decide to join forces against him.
He had never expected that things would develop to this point, and when he was sacrificing those cannon fodder right and left, he merely thought that once he got out of here, everything would be fine.
But now, they were fully trapped in this forsaken continent, and if he continues to be reckless, things would turn worse for him.
At this moment, the Giant War King really hoped that the Champion King would appear from somewhere and take hold of the situation, but alas, it was impossible.
"Alright, let’s hear what the Wise King has planned for us?" The Giant War King emotionlessly said, but the vague humiliation in his eyes couldn’t be hidden.
"Oh, now that’s progress." The Wise King couldn’t help but snicker and ignore the Giant War King before he said, "Confronting the Undead Skyfall Armies is reckless. Even at our full strength, we were beaten like dogs and barely escaped with our lives. Now? We can barely hold this sanctuary."
The Spirit Eye King added quietly, "And we still do not know what we are facing. That language... that presence... it felt older than any language recorded within the Alchemy Guild records.
"Even if we sent a Legendary King proficient in assassination arts and law of darkness and space to kill the controller of the Undead Armies, we need to figure out exactly what the controller or source is first. Not only that, but to this point, they also have our own legendary kings turning undead in their ranks."
A heavy pause followed once Spirit Eye King’s voice trailed off, and everyone knew what she was implying; they were alone and helpless.
At this moment, an old witch race Legendary King suddenly spoke with hesitation, "Your majesty, forgive my boldness, but I’ve read about the ’Quasi-Myths’ rank beyond the Legendary King, and I’m sure they aren’t merely legends and exist within the Legendary Plains. Can’t we seek help from them?"
The three leaders’ eyes widened slightly when they heard ’Quasi-Myths’, while those Legendary Kings, who didn’t know, were startled as they clearly didn’t know there was such a rank beyond the legendary king state rank.
But before further discussion could continue, the chamber doors opened abruptly, and a radiant-armored messenger stumbled inside, kneeling immediately despite visible exhaustion.
"My Lords! A report from the outer perimeter!"
The Wise King’s eyes sharpened. "It’s better to be good for you to interrupt us like this. Now, speak!"
The messenger swallowed when he sensed the heavy atmosphere, but he couldn’t delay this anymore.
"A survivor has arrived!"
The room froze for a moment before the Giant War King demanded instantly imposingly, "Just a survivor made you interrupt us!? Do you have a death wish, soldier!?"
"T-that is," the messenger replied shakily, "I wouldn’t have dared, but he emerged out of nowhere within the sanctuary, bypassing all the protections, and the death aura on him is eerily similar to the Undead Skyfall Armies. No one can detain him, and instead, our men were knocked unconscious. Now, he’s demanding to see the three leaders!"
