Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1269: Reality Bites! (2)

Chapter 1269: Reality Bites! (2)

“They seemed to be expecting us!”

No one refuted those words because it was obvious that the entire battlefield had already been prepared, and it wasn’t merely the number of undead, but their formation.

Every canyon had become a natural fortress, every mountain a defensive bastion, and every plateau a killing ground, with countless formation points overlapping one another with astonishing precision.

Even before the battle began, the terrain itself had become part of the Undead Army.

The Myth of Venom’s eyes narrowed, “So the reports about mindless undead…were only referring to the outer regions.”

The Myth of Dark Blaze looked at the projection without blinking, “No, this is the outer region, which could only mean the inner domain would be completely different. It might even resemble a true kingdom.”

No one could deny it. Every expectation they had before entering the Skyfall Canyons had been shattered.

Originally, they had imagined the Undead Skyfall retreating after suffering heavy losses, like the Death Lord’s teacher had fought the Undead Lich King, and that mysterious powerhouse had forced the Undead Skyfall itself to withdraw.

Everything pointed toward an exhausted enemy, and their original plan had therefore been extremely simple. Break through the outer defenses, advance directly toward the core, locate the sealed God’s resting place, and plunder every divine inheritance before anyone else.

That was why almost every Quasi-Myth had willingly entered Sagittarius, but not for war; instead, for opportunity. Yet now, reality struck them like a bucket of freezing water.

There was no exhausted army, no collapsing defenses, and no chaotic retreat. The Undead Skyfall hadn’t fallen into disorder. Instead, it looked as though it had completed its mobilization.

The Myth of Alchemy stared at the endless rows of undead before muttering, “This…isn’t an excavation, but a siege!”

The words echoed throughout the command hall, and everyone silently agreed. Even if they ultimately won, it would no longer be a quick operation, and the price would be enormous.

Outside the flagship, the countless fleets slowly reduced their speed, and formation commanders began issuing revised instructions.

The previously aggressive spearhead formations gradually contracted. The assault fleets shifted into layered defensive arrays. Protective barriers expanded. Communication arrays lit up across thousands upon thousands of warships.

The entire armada instinctively adjusted into a wartime posture. Clearly, the commanders had reached the same conclusion. The enemy before them was unlike anything they had anticipated.

At that moment…

“The numbers have been estimated, my lords.” A calm voice suddenly interrupted everyone’s thoughts.

An elderly strategist standing beside the projection finished analyzing the battlefield, and his expression had become unusually grave.

“The visible Legendary Lord-ranked undead had already exceeded three hundred million.”

Several people inhaled sharply before he continued without pause.

“Legendary Kings…currently confirmed…thirty-six thousand, eight hundred and nineteen.”

Silence as even the Quasi-Myths’ expressions subtly stiffened, for that number was utterly absurd. Although Legendary Kings were far from being true rulers before Quasi-Myths, they were still the absolute backbone of every supreme organization.

Yet here they appeared by the tens of thousands.

“And the Quasi-Myths…” The strategist’s hand trembled slightly, “Confirmed…twenty-one…all positioned at the front.”

No one questioned his calculations because everyone could clearly sense those terrifying twenty-one death authorities. They were impossible to mistake.

The Myth of Thunder finally broke the oppressive silence, “…This wasn’t mentioned.”

The Myth of Inferno looked equally grim, “No. It wasn’t.”

The survivors who had escaped the Death March had described endless undead. They had spoken of Legendary Kings. They had even warned about the Undead Lich King.

But never, not once, had anyone mentioned that the Undead Skyfall possessed twenty-one Quasi-Myth commanders.

However, it wasn’t their fault, so how could they? None of those survivors had ever seen Quasi-Myths before, and even after that, they saw only one or two together, never all of them.

It was always the Death Lord who drew them away, buying them time to retreat before fleeing their pursuers every single time. Except for when two Dukes of Death descend and the Undead Lich King personally makes a move before Jacob ruins everything for the Undead Skyfall.

The Myth of Venom slowly folded his arms, “So, the Death Lord’s teacher…didn’t weaken the Skyfall nearly as much as Myth of Reverend implied.”

No one answered, yet several gazes quietly shifted toward the empty seat reserved for the Myth of Reverend. An almost imperceptible doubt surfaced within many hearts.

Like, had the Reverend truly known so little? Or had he deliberately omitted this information? But regardless of the answer, it no longer mattered because the army before them was real.

The countless undead standing across the endless canyons were also real, and the twenty-one Dukes of Death silently staring back at them were even more real.

For the first time since entering the Sagittarius Continent, the Mythical Coalition understood one undeniable truth. The expedition they believed would become the greatest treasure hunt in the history of the Legendary Plains had already become one of its bloodiest wars.

But right at that moment, the Myth of Alchemy suddenly spoke gravely, “Now that you mentioned it, where is the esteemed Myth of Reverend? I’ve not seen him ever since we entered the continent.”

This instantly drew everyone’s attention as they were all so occupied with these new developments and thoughts of divine treasures that they completely ignored this obvious fact.

“I’ve seen Myth of Reverend but through projection only…” The Myth of Dark Blaze remarked with a hint of doubt.

This subtly shifted the atmosphere, as those Quasi-Myths were all old monsters and instantly sensed the strangeness of this peculiar situation.

“I’ll contact Myth of Reverend; he should be in the second prime fleet!” The Myth of Inferno suppressed the uneasy feeling in his heart and instantly tried to communicate with the Myth of Reverend.

After a few moments, no response came, subtly darkening everyone’s expressions.

The Myth of Inferno’s expression also turned grim as he contacted the command center directly and ordered them to find the Myth of Reverend’s whereabouts, since the latter wasn’t actually there.

As everyone was waiting for the reply, someone who hadn’t spoken yet suddenly spoke in an emotionless tone.

“There’s no need to waste more time; the Myth of Reverend has already left!”

Everyone’s gaze instantly shifted towards the person who had just spoken, and it was none other than Myth of Black Archer, or in his guise, Jacob!
