Daily Life in the Countryside After Being Reborn

Chapter 856 - 16: Yuelai Building

Chapter 856: Chapter 16: Yuelai Building

Over the weekend, Xiao Xian dragged Yiyi along, with Professor Rock hosting, to a Chinese restaurant located in New York’s Chinatown.

Hearing that they could eat authentic Chinese food, Yiyi was thrilled.

The cafeteria at Cornell University is quite international, and in recent years with the increase of Chinese students, there is even a special Chinese restaurant inside. However, it mostly serves Guangdong cuisine, which is a bit too oily and sweet for Xiao Xian and Yiyi, who are used to Northern dishes.

"Wasn’t it said that the professor who brought you here was very difficult to deal with? Why suddenly the good intention to invite us for a meal?" Yiyi had long wanted to visit Chinatown. Her English wasn’t great yet, and in the rare biological research lab, she could only communicate with the professor responsible for her with body language. Being surrounded by Chinese again was an indescribable happiness.

"That’s just a rumor. Professor Rock is quite easygoing, though his hairstyle is a bit odd," Xiao Xian said uneasily. In her eyes, Professor Rock was almost like a child, showing emotions on his face.

On the first day, he almost drove Xiao Xian out with a broom, but on the second day, learning that she was connected to Hu Song and could "attract" mutant bees, he immediately changed his attitude.

With a broccoli haircut, Professor Rock showed up at the gates of Cornell University driving his little Jaguar.

"Hi, Xiao," Rock wasn’t good at Chinese, and found her Chinese name difficult, so he simply called her "Xiao".

"Since you’ve brought someone, you won’t mind if I bring someone too, right?" Professor Rock gestured towards the school gate, calling out to the man approaching, "Ziang, over here."

Professor Rock had just learned in the past few days that Zhou Ziang had returned to the country.

The daily routine for international exchange students followed normal working hours, with weekends off, allowing them to plan freely.

After his funding was cut off by Celeste, it was Zhou Ziang who helped him gather some funds. That guy seemed so unflappable and resistant to bribery but turned out to be a fat lamb; it’s unknown where his money came from.

"Ah, so weird people do flock together," Yiyi murmured, covering her mouth as she glanced at the "iceberg man" and "broccoli head."

Unexpectedly, Zhou Ziang showed a smile, though it was unclear if it was towards Xiao Xian or Rock. But his smile hadn’t lasted long before an inappropriately-timed voice interjected.

"Rock, long time no see. Got a new assistant and forgot about your old friend. Ziang, what a coincidence, you scheduled a meal with Rock? I happen to be free this weekend too, where are you heading? Why not take us along," without saying, the interrupter was none other than Aisha, who should have been the last person to appear.

Rock was not pleased, as he hadn’t seen Zhou Ziang for a while and wanted to catch up. Ziang was a great person overall, but just not good at getting along with women. Initially, bringing along the two Chinese female exchange students was to make him comfortable; now with an additional Aisha, there were enough people to make Chinese dumplings.

Rock wasn’t very accommodating; he wasn’t happy and made no effort to hide it verbally: "My car is small, can’t fit a great Buddha like you."

From Rock’s usual research style, one could infer his approach to tasks, which emphasized efficiency in everything. The little Jaguar he drove was a compact sports car model.

Two people could sit in front, and two at the back would be snug, but if it was three tall women, it would indeed be cramped.

Stupid Rock, what’s the point of driving such a flashy car.

Aisha cursed inwardly. Like most Americans, she preferred large, spacious cars with high displacement, fueling grievance against both Rock and his car. But she had set her mind on following Zhou Ziang and crew, so she managed a smile: "No worries, my Mercedes-Benz business car is parked in the school, we can use it."

"No need," Yiyi and Rock said simultaneously, exchanging a mutual look of admiration. Neither wanted to sit in a car reeking of fox smell and risk losing their appetite.

"The four of us can take one car. If you want to join, you can follow in your own car," Zhou Ziang didn’t say more, just opened Rock’s car door, gesturing for Xiao Xian and Yiyi to get in.

Aisha, fuming, rolled her eyes. Driving to New York would take another two hours, and she’d be bored alone, so she called Perry along.

The two cars, with five people, set off in the direction of New York’s Chinatown.
