Chapter 872: Chapter 23: Grasshoppers on the Same Rope (Part 2)
In fact, Zhou Ziang was mistaken.
The Underground Biopark, named for its subterranean nature, isn’t strictly underground. The Underground Biopark is divided into two parts; one part is indeed underground, while the other part is hidden within a hollowed-out mountain.
The surface of the mountain is planted with a large number of plants, and even the most precise satellite detection equipment cannot detect the exact location of the Underground Biopark.
After the car drove into the underground passageway set within the biopark, the cultivators, including Xiao Xian and Wang Shuai, sensed a rich spiritual energy.
"What is this?" Wang Shuai, still in the dark, resisted the urge to inspect immediately; for cultivators, spiritual energy is undoubtedly the greatest temptation.
Across the entire planet, there are no more than ten sites with a stable source of spiritual energy. Among these, several will deplete their spiritual power over time.
Non-natural spirit veins that can meet the needs of different cultivators, such as the Huake Institute North Campus and the Underground Botanical Garden where the four of them were, are kept strictly confidential by various countries as the most secretive existences.
The Huake Institute North Campus established a Heavenly Thunder Cage, an incredible magic. Xiao Xian and the White Flood Dragon’s fortunate escape also involved a great deal of luck.
The spiritual power in C District has almost been exhausted, and breaking through from the inside is much easier than from the outside. For those intruders coveting the spiritual energy of the North Campus, very few have a chance to escape alive.
"Is this really an artificial spirit vein point established by Mengshan Company?" Wang Shuai didn’t get off the car. He couldn’t contain his curiosity about how the spiritual energy here could be so abundant; the spiritual power in North Campus’s B and C zones was no match for this place. Only the spiritual energy in Area A could compare to it.
Locke, not without pride, said, "Yes, this biopark was built by Mengshan Company, leveraging its substantial resources and personnel. Over the years, the cultivation of exotic creatures inside was entirely managed by me alone."
"The spiritual energy is very abundant," Wang Shuai marveled at Locke and the others’ godlike skills. Even the current Huake Institute has no one capable of creating such a cultivation paradise.
"The spiritual energy is abundant here, but haven’t you noticed that it’s too intense, giving off a discordant feeling?" Xiao Xian wasn’t trying to rain on Locke’s parade; instead, she noticed something peculiar amid the overwhelming spiritual energy.
Under normal cultivation, whenever she arrived at a place rich in spiritual energy or during the night, the sugarcane seedling in her Silver-grade Space would automatically absorb spiritual energy to ensure its supply. But soon after she entered the biopark, the Silver-grade Space automatically stopped absorbing the spiritual energy and even reacted adversely to it.
"How can that be? This spiritual energy makes every cell in my body feel rejuvenated, making me ready to fight at any moment," Wang Shuai was indifferent.
Xiao Xian shook her head. If the spiritual energy in C District is like a pot of fine tea, then the energy here is akin to a vat of aged wine; it’s exhilarating at first, but after a few sips, you begin to transform.
Why would Wang Shuai suddenly want to declare a battle? He’s not known to be impulsive.
"Let’s get off. I think Quinn is ready to welcome you," Locke assumed Xiao Xian was just envious, as the car came to a stop.
After getting off the car, they found underfoot a corridor winding like a serpent’s belly.
Lamps were mounted on the corridor walls, and not far ahead was a closed electronic detection gate.
After the driver left, Locke walked up to the detection gate and pressed a button on the intercom device.
"Quinn, I’ve brought the Beastman I mentioned to you yesterday. Remove the barriers along the way; I will take the person inside," Quinn appeared on the screen of a video device above the electronic detection door, after a blue screen appeared. He had dense hair, looking much like an ape.
"You said one person, but you’ve brought three. It’s no wonder Celeste keeps tattling on you lately, saying you’re becoming insubordinate," a pinhole-sized camera was located at the top right of the electronic detection gate.
"The other two are assistants I invited to improve the Queen bee. Speaking of which, it’s partly your fault. Who promised me that the new breed of bees would meet my requirements? Yet the hatched bees were as aggressive as you, landing my old assistant in the hospital for almost a month. And the honey produced, it’s not fit for human consumption," Locke put on a stern face, deliberately exaggerating the situation’s seriousness.
"Assistants? Ever since you started mingling with Zhou Ziang, you’ve taken a liking to Asian people. You don’t use local employees and instead hire foreign assistants, leading to several complaints accusing you of discriminating against local staff," Quinn’s eyes, hidden under his hair, scrutinized Xiao Xian and Wang Shuai, not holding back.
Noticing that the two were cultivators, Quinn became intrigued, a gleam of heat flared up, causing Xiao Xian and Wang Shuai to shiver involuntarily.
"Not bad, not bad. This one has a subtle aura, and that one radiates dominance. They’d make great playmates for my little cronies. You bring that Beastman girl in, and as for the extra two, let them find their way in by themselves. That’s it," with a flicker, Quinn disappeared from the screen.
Locke was troubled, as Xiao Xian, labeled as having a subtle aura, and Wang Shuai, deemed to radiate dominance, exchanged a glance, a wry smile tugging at the corners of their lips. (To be continued.
