Chapter 931: The Grand Finale: Rekindling Immortal Fate
After the pleasant sound of the class bell, the students of Sacred Heart Middle School swarmed out of the classroom, heading down the stairs.
In the corridor, a female student was chattering away, pulling another female student along.
"Xuerou, I’m telling you, that new spicy hot pot place on the street is really good. I guarantee you’ll love it the moment you try it," Yiyi said as she dragged Xuerou, running towards the street outside the school.
"Don’t be so loud, I’ve told you countless times not to eat at those small stalls outside the gate; they’re unhealthy," as the student council president of Sacred Heart Middle School, Zeng Xuerou couldn’t understand how she ended up partnering with Zhang Yiyi in the first place.
It all started with a quarrel in the cafeteria...
"A little dirt never hurt; look at me, I’m much sturdier than you," Yiyi patted her chest, glancing towards the senior high school’s sports field.
It was the first day of school, and the September sun made the whole campus hot and bustling.
Normally at this time, students would either be rushing to the cafeteria or dashing towards the snack shops outside the school.
But today was unusual; many female students gathered around the sports field because the senior division was having military training.
Mao Yi and Qu Yang, the two handsome guys, were wearing dark green military uniforms, being scolded by a military instructor.
"At ease, stand at attention. You two haven’t eaten, have you? Talking just after standing for half an hour, did I say you could speak in a disciplined unit?" The instructor stood with his back to Yiyi and the others, his face unseen, but Yiyi could only hear his authoritative voice.
"Yes, Instructor Wang," Qu Yang answered weakly, while Mao Yi rolled his eyes; he hadn’t been talking, it was Qu Yang chattering about what to eat for lunch.
"The entire class will have an extra hour of training," the man said coldly, causing Zhang Yiyi to shiver from far away.
She pushed Zeng Xuerou, "Why do sophomore students still have to do military training?"
"They say it’s practice before the college entrance exams, a new rule this year to strengthen the physical foundation for senior year exams," Xuerou nodded approvingly; instructors from the army were indeed different.
"Oh, what a hassle. Amitabha, I want to find out the name of that Instructor Yanluo. When it’s my turn for training, I don’t want to run into him," Yiyi whispered, not realizing that although she spoke quietly, her words reached the military instructor’s ears without missing a word.
He furrowed his thick brows and turned around in the sunlight, spotting a girl with a fair, plump, baozi-like face.
Being stared at like that made the baozi-faced girl, resembling a startled rabbit, "whoosh" away, pulling her companion along.
"Wang Shuai, are you really going to give these kids an extra hour of training? One hour, I’m afraid they won’t last," another class had already finished their drills.
Wang Shuai let out a cold snort, "If a few don’t faint, how can it be called a disciplined unit."
Yiyi pulled Xuerou all the way to the spicy hot pot stall, wiping sweat and ordering food, "So scary, that man’s eyes could kill."
Xuerou shrugged helplessly, the rich aroma of the spices invigorating both of them, and just as they started eating, they both said in unison, "This is the flavor Xiao Xian likes, too bad she’s not here."
"Who said I’m not here?" With one arm around their shoulders and the other grabbing a pair of chopsticks, Xiao Xian picked up a piece of dried bamboo shoot and stuffed it into her mouth, "How can I miss out on good food?"
"Hey, don’t grab! I thought you weren’t coming today. Didn’t you say your dad and aunt were opening the fifteenth store of the Agricultural Specialty Store during the day, and you had to help out? Isn’t it also your grandpa’s eighty-fifth birthday tonight, which is why you took a day off? How come you’re back?" Xuerou laughed, watching the chaos between Xiao Xian and Yiyi.
"The store stuff was done in the morning. I planned to spend the afternoon with grandpa, but turns out he arranged to learn mat weaving with retired cadres at the senior center in Fang Street. Seeing me idle, my mom started nagging about my poor math, saying I won’t get into a top school in the future and wants to introduce a Cornell University graduate to tutor me. As soon as I heard that, I fled back to school, I hate private tutoring," Xiao Xian pouted, stuffing another mouthful of vegetables.
"You know, you’ll dodge it today but not tomorrow. You might as well just go to tutoring; I tried teaching you, but you wouldn’t listen, so you need a stranger to straighten you out," Xuerou scolded blamingly, those two just never paid attention to their studies.
