Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1602: Transcendence

Chapter 1602: Transcendence

Raze knew that Gizin had to be watching everything that was going on and happening from somewhere high above. After the Dark Magus had already taken down two of the Grand Magus, no one would be foolish enough to think that the Cerebus Guild and whoever else Gizin had hired would be strong enough to take Raze down permanently. All Raze needed to do was create an unmissable spectacle to get his attention, and with a large-scale attack like the one Raze had just executed, making a giant hole in the street above, he had sent a clear message.

That was the moment Gizin could finally be seen in the distance, silhouetted against the bright sky.

As Gizin stood there, his walking stick held casually in hand, he looked down into the gaping hole that now stared directly into the Underside.

"It’s typical for a rat like yourself to live in the sewers," Gizin said, his voice echoing with disdain. "I truly was hoping that I wouldn’t have to descend there to deal with you myself, but it appears you’re not going to move. However, you did show me something special, so why don’t I show you something special as well."

Gizin then started to walk across the open space where the ground had been disintegrated. As he did so, golden energy began glowing beneath his feet with each step. He was walking directly on the open space, the destroyed ground, as if he were walking on the air itself. When he finally stood in the center of the massive opening, he looked down at Raze.

"You wanted to show off a bit, to try and scare me off?" Gizin asked, condescendingly. "Well, let’s see how you deal with something like this."

The walking stick was lifted high, and a brilliant, golden light suddenly encased the entirety of Gizin. It looked similar to the energy field the Cerebus Masked Members used, but Raze could feel it was subtly different, there was an unsettling familiarity to the massive power.

The next moment, a colossal tunnel of pure golden energy beamed down from Gizin’s point in the sky. The energy cast was just as large and destructive as the attack Raze had made, but its focus was entirely concentrated.

From all over the Underside, they could see a gigantic column of flowing, golden energy hitting the area, aimed precisely at where Raze was standing.

When the golden beam of energy finally dissipated, Gizin was left standing. But now, he was standing directly on the Underside ground he had just destroyed.

All of the surrounding buildings in the immediate area, all of the reinforced structures, they had been completely taken down by his overwhelming attack. Some of the nearest houses showed a clean, surgical cut where the edge of the golden energy had reached.

Whoever had been present within the direct impact zone was no longer alive, apart from one figure, who slowly walked through the settling dust.

"I thought you would have at least been somewhat hurt from that," Gizin commented, a flicker of surprise in his tone. "I know the old Dark Magus would have been severely damaged."

"It appears things have changed quite a bit since I last fought against all of you," Raze answered, his voice steady. "None of you have just been sitting around doing nothing, it seems."

Gizin’s attack was so fast, large, and fierce that Raze had been forced to use his Time Magic to get out of the way of the immediate blast. He didn’t have much control over Time Magic, nor did he have a full handle on it, so it was a power he desperately didn’t want to use too much. To have used it right at the start of his battle, he felt like he was slightly kicking himself in the foot, but he was sure that if he had tried to attack back with his Dark Magic, his energy would have just been swallowed whole by the Light attack.

"Right. It seems you are not the same either. You have new techniques and are stronger than before," Gizin commented, his eyes narrowed. "Which makes me wonder, are you really the same Grand Magus?"

He studied Raze closely. "You look nothing like the one from before, and yet from what I have heard, and what you know, it has to be you. It has to be the same existence."

Raze stretched out his hand, automatically calling for one of his swords, and looked straight ahead at his foe.

"I have been waiting for this day, to take you out, for what you did to Sabrina," Raze stated, his voice now low and lethal. "She might have just been another person to you, an easy target, but for me, she was someone important. And this is going to be your downfall."

Raze then launched into his true attack. "I know what you have been doing, Gizin. The illegal substances, the whole world knows what you have been doing. And I even know what you have been doing in Pagna as well, starting up that fake Rylon Religion? I have already taken down everything that belongs to you, and now I just have to take you down completely."

Despite the grave threats and accusations Raze had just laid out, Gizin did not look angry. He simply smiled, a look of profound arrogance on his face.

"I guess you are the same person after all," Gizin commented. "But you see, what you have done, all your destruction, has only brought my own plans forward."

Gizin raised his stick again, the golden light intensifying around him, pulsing with impossible power. "Let me show you, Raze, that I have power that not even the other Grand Magus know about... that I have transcended. And what you are looking at in front of you right now, is a being akin to that of a god!"
