Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1652: (Fixed) Liam In Charge

Chapter 1652: (Fixed) Liam In Charge

The first group of people from the Shelter had already managed to cross the makeshift bridges and reach the world above. They had been the lucky ones, saved in the chaos, and during the frantic exchanges of magic and attacks between the fighters below, B had lowered the pillar again, allowing the gathered civilians to assemble safely on the circular platform she had formed.

But not everyone from the remaining Shelters had arrived yet. Time was working against them, and the situation below was deteriorating far too quickly. Seeing this, B made the difficult decision to activate the pillar once more. Without waiting for confirmation or hesitation from the others, she lifted it for a second time, sending it surging upward toward the sky.

When the pillar reached the ridges above, the stone bridges expanded outward again, and people poured across them, desperate to escape the underside before it collapsed entirely. Their voices echoed with fear as they pushed each other forward, scrambling toward the faint promise of safety.

However, even though Harvey was trapped in the middle of a chaotic battle, dodging attacks, conjuring Dark Magic, and lashing out at the fighters, his attention snapped instantly toward the pillar the moment it rose again. His puppet-like form shifted, limbs tightening, and the glowing eyes embedded in the mass of Dark Magic narrowed.

He recognized the threat immediately. None of the fighters around him posed a real danger, not in the state he was currently in, while that pillar, if left to operate freely, was actively undoing everything he intended. Destroying it would lead to more death, and death meant more Dark Affinity for him.

So he focused his attention on the pillar again, aiming to destroy it before too many people could escape. The broken remains of the first collapse still scattered the battlefield, and the falling people from the earlier destruction had already given him strength. In his twisted reasoning, removing the second pillar would grant him even more.

Harvey didn’t know exactly how Dark Affinity was quantified by the universe, if killing falling civilians would truly strengthen him or not, but he wasn’t willing to risk losing any potential power. He wanted complete certainty, which meant delivering the killing blows himself. That was why, as the civilians were thrown into the air once again, he stretched out both arms of the giant puppet and unleashed more Dark Magic beams directly at them.

Several massive blasts of swirling dark energy carved across the sky. Each beam hit multiple people at once. Even those lucky enough to soften their fall with wind magic were slowed down long enough for Harvey’s attacks to strike them mid-air.

The scenes unfolding above shattered the hearts of those who had been fighting Harvey. They had tried everything to buy time, to hold off the puppet, to distract Harvey, but they simply weren’t strong enough. Watching the innocent fall and die because of their failure caused a deep regret to twist inside every fighter present.

If only they had been stronger... if only they had been able to stop him sooner... none of this would have happened.

Liam watched the tragedy unfolding and felt his own gut twist painfully. His system analysis had already told him the truth: almost everyone who had fallen was beyond saving. Nearly all of them would die before anyone could reach them. But even so, there was one thing Liam could still attempt, something his system suggested could shift the outcome of the battle itself.

"Listen!" Liam shouted, turning around mid-air, his voice cutting through the battlefield like lightning. "Everyone listen to me! We might still have a chance, we might actually be able to beat him!"

It wasn’t that the others didn’t want to believe him. They were tired, worn down, nearly out of mana or Qi. But desperation had stripped away any hesitation they might have felt. Even those who didn’t know about Liam’s system, who didn’t understand why he was suddenly taking command, chose to listen simply because they had no other hope left.

"Alen!" Simyon shouted sharply. "Charge in as if you’re going for an attack, use everything you have!"

Even though Alen was exhausted, nearly out of mana, and physically drained from earlier battles, he didn’t hesitate for even a heartbeat. He pushed flame through his limbs, sending himself forward in a blazing sprint. Just the act of charging toward Harvey was enough to pull the man’s focus, Harvey had shown an unnatural aggression toward Alen throughout the fight, almost as if he held a personal grudge.

That made Alen the perfect distraction.

"Dame, come to me!" Liam shouted next.

Dame flickered across the ground in his lightning-body form, appearing beside Liam in an instant.

"Use your lightning body and grab me," Liam instructed. "Pull me as close to Harvey as possible. Just charge straight in. No matter what happens, don’t stop. You might get hit, but your body is strong enough to survive it."

Dame nodded without a single question, his jaw clenched tightly. If there was even a sliver of a plan, he would commit to it fully.

Liam turned next to Londo and Kelly.

"As for you two, do exactly what you did before. Gather your strongest spells, condense everything you have, and aim for the center of the puppet. Focus on the same spot. B, you do the same from the other side. Build your power as high as you can. When I give the signal, release everything!"

Londo and Kelly immediately set to work, gathering all four elements into spiraling clusters of energy. This time, they poured even more mana into their attack, determined to land a meaningful hit before it was too late.

On the opposite side, B’s arms swirled with a terrifying density of blood energy. Even the blood spilled earlier, from those who had crashed or been struck by Harvey’s beams, was gathering toward her, adding to the overwhelming mass forming around her limbs.

Dame positioned himself directly behind Liam now, his lightning-body crackling with power.

"You ready, Dame?" Liam asked, eyes locked onto Harvey.

"I’m ready."

Liam inhaled once, steadying his resolve.

"NOW!!!"
