Chapter 1680: The North Falls (Part 1)

The group understood the severity of the situation they were in. Although they had no doubt that those sent from the Noble Guild were strong, they were confident that they could deal with what came their way as long as they stayed focused. However, that confidence didn’t extend to everyone equally. Londo, Kelly, and Alen, who traveled as a trio, were feeling a heavy weight on their shoulders. They had to admit that their skills were lacking compared to the likes of B and Liam.

It was at a time like this, while their group was rather small, that they really were starting to feel the effects of no longer having Dame and Safa by their side to help them. Those two had been the pillars of their combat strength for so long. Regardless of their fear, there was nothing they could do but push forward. They had to try to reach all of the Guilds in the north as quickly as possible before the Noble Guild’s purges were complete.

For Raze, he had gone toward one of the larger Guilds in the region. He was swift with his movement, using a combination of Qi-enhanced footwork and lightning-fast agility. Before he even entered the guild’s main area, he could see that the situation was already a total mess. A wall had been destroyed that was set up on the outside, quite similar to the defenses of the other guilds they had seen. Mages lied there dead on the ground, their robes stained red and their staves broken.

I guess they refused to let them in, and this was the ultimate result? Raze thought, his jaw tightening.

He quickly rushed to follow the lingering scent of magic and the sounds of distant struggle. The guild house that he had gone to was located in the middle of a large park. The people the guild had decided to bring in and protect had been living in makeshift earth structures, clustered together for safety. The park was rather large, and as Raze went past the rows of huts, he could see the local citizens holding up and hiding inside. They were frightened, their eyes wide with terror as they watched the Dark Magus blur past them.

When Raze eventually reached the center structure that was meant to be the main guild house, he looked up at the ascending stairs leading to the main floor. He could see three mages walking out, wearing the same uniform that Natty and the others had worn. The uniform of the Noble Guild.

The three of them had large smiles on their faces, clearly satisfied with the slaughter they had just finished. They were completely unaware of the danger approaching because Raze was already directly in front of one of them before they could even blink. He swung his sword down in a brutal arc, splitting one of the members in half before a barrier could even form.

"I guess there is no reason to give any of you mercy!" Raze growled.

He didn’t stop to catch his breath. He moved to the next mage. With a wave of his hand, his dark magic surged forward. It encased the entire mage, the shadowy energy eating through their protective barrier like acid before encasing the mage completely. Within seconds, the dark magic dissipated, and there was nothing left of the person—no body, no clothes, nothing.

Then there was just one left. The final mage desperately cast a fire spell, sending a wall of flames toward Raze. But Raze was unimpressed. He used his wind magic to swirl the flames around him, redirecting the heat, and then thrusted his fist forward. He hit the mage right in the stomach with the force of a falling hammer.

He continued to use his wind magic to pull the mage forward, refusing to let him fly back. Raze wrapped his wrist firmly around the mage’s neck, lifting him off the ground.

"I can kill you in an instant with my Dark Magic, so don’t struggle and don’t try anything stupid," Raze warned, his voice like ice.

Raze practically carried the man up the stairs by his neck, forcing him to witness the results of his own handiwork. When he ascended and headed back into the main room, he could see the full extent of the chaos that had been caused. All of the guild members had been killed. There was destruction in several places, and more than just that, there were strange plants that were placed and growing rapidly from inside the room.

The plants quickly turned as if they were alive, sensing a new presence. When they looked at Raze, they opened up like hungry maws, ready to attack. With one powerful swing of Raze’s sword, encased in Dark magic, a wave of energy went through the entire building. It was a straight line of destruction that ripped off the heads of the plants, causing them to fall lifeless to the floor.

"Another enchanted magic item, I’m guessing. It seems that Idore really did give you all the items needed to defeat these guilds right away, didn’t he?" Raze asked his prisoner.

The mage nodded his head, trembling in Raze’s grip.

"Did you kill them all just because they refused to join the Noble Guild?" Raze asked.

The mage nodded again, his eyes darting around, unsure what to do or how to escape the Dark Magus’s shadow.

"I would like to ask you for more information on the Noble Guild as a whole," Raze said, looking around at the dead guild members. "But since it seems you are on a mass purge of the Guilds in the North, and I can’t trust you to not say anything to your masters, I’m going to have to get rid of you."

Before the man could plead for his life, Raze encased him in Dark Magic. Just like the others, his body disappeared into the void, leaving no trace behind.

Raze knew he needed to get to the other Guilds quickly to try and save some type of allies for the coming war. He had a bad feeling with what was happening, and as he moved to the next location, he realized he was right about it.

The others who had reached the other guilds were finding themselves in the same situation. The fighting had already started long before they arrived, and most of the Guild members had already been eliminated. Even if there were those who had survived the initial slaughter, the leaders were gone. In some cases, only the leader had been killed, leaving the rest of the Guild with no choice but to agree to join the Noble Guild out of fear.

The only plus side was that Raze and his group were eliminating more and more members of the Noble Guild as they were going around from area to area. They were thinning the enemy’s ranks, but at the cost of the North’s defenses.
