Chapter 97 Extra 2
Chapter 97 Extra 2
Fu Mingxiu felt that Lin Yujing’s roommate was a bit peculiar.
He couldn’t understand a single word she said.
The two of them stared at each other for quite a while, as if their conversation was on completely different wavelengths. Eventually, Fu Mingxiu gave up. They took the elevator down together, with Fu Mingxiu driving back to the company and Gu Xia taking the bus back to school.
The whole way back, Fu Mingxiu kept pondering this issue.
He had a peculiar habit: if he couldn’t remember someone, it would make him extremely uncomfortable, just like when he first saw Shen Juan.
The feeling of something being just out of reach was unbearably frustrating. Whether it was a person or an event, he had to remember it, and only when he finally arrived at the correct answer could he find true relief.
He began to think about where he had seen Gu Xia before.
Since she was Lin Yujing’s roommate and a student at A University, it indicated that he should have seen her there, but he had only been to A University twice.
He spent an entire evening pondering it, but still couldn’t recall before he left work.
During this period, he visited the hospital every few days. What Lin Yujing did left him at a loss for words—there were many ways to deal with that madman, who had no significant background. She had chosen this one, though.
She really was a law-abiding citizen, leaving Fu Mingxiu so exasperated he didn’t even know how to express it.
Every time he saw her, he felt like scolding her again, but for some reason, whenever he was about to speak, Fu Mingxiu would remember Gu Xia’s remark: “Anyone with a bit of decency would know to keep quiet in the hospital.”
Later on, due to Lin Yujing’s tight schedule, Fu Mingxiu went to the hospital a few more times but didn’t see her again.
He found this rather unsettling, as he still wanted to ask her, “Where exactly have we met?”
It wasn’t until the day Lin Yujing was discharged that Gu Xia came to help carry her things. During this time, Shen Juan had been acting like a lovesick, gloomy beauty, barely saying a word.
At that point, Fu Mingxiu still didn’t know Lin Yujing’s injury was related to Shen Juan. Although Fu Mingxiu didn’t particularly like him, he was, after all, Lin Yujing’s boyfriend, and Fu Mingxiu wasn’t her real brother. If she liked Shen Juan, what business was it of his?
However, seeing Young Master Shen’s drastic change—his usual arrogance completely wiped out, trailing behind Lin Yujing like a meek puppy—left Fu Mingxiu feeling quite uncomfortable.
He found an opportunity to talk to Shen Juan. The two of them stepped out of the ward, standing by the emergency exit in the hallway, and began a conversation that lasted about five minutes.
During this time, no matter what Fu Mingxiu said, Shen Juan hardly responded.
He was like a walking corpse, as if he hadn’t noticed anyone other than Lin Yujing during this whole period. He leaned silently against the wall, head lowered, expressionless, without any intention of engaging.
Fu Mingxiu finally lost his temper. He couldn’t stand this stifling atmosphere, and took two steps forward. “What’s with you? Can we talk or not?”
A soft “click” echoed from the other end of the hallway. Gu Xia stood at the ward’s entrance, her mouth slightly open as she observed the tense atmosphere.
Gu Xia felt certain now: this was definitely a case of a domineering CEO falling for his beautiful adopted sister and trying to compete with her official boyfriend.
Before leaving that day, Shen Juan had gone to speak with Lin Yujing’s therapist for a while. When he returned, he packed up and took her away. Before leaving, Lin Yujing had specifically asked Fu Mingxiu to drive Gu Xia back to school, considering it was rush hour and the public transportation would be crowded.
Had she not mentioned it, Fu Mingxiu wouldn’t have thought to offer Gu Xia a ride. Her reminder made him realize that letting her take the bus alone before might not have been the best idea.
After Lin Yujing and Shen Juan left, only Fu Mingxiu and Gu Xia were left standing at the hospital entrance. The two of them stared at each other for a long time.
Fu Mingxiu’s expression was quite stern, practically glaring at her. Just when Gu Xia thought he was about to say something shocking, he suddenly asked, “Are you sure we haven’t met before?”
Gu Xia: “…”
Gu Xia was speechless.
She had always been confident in her appearance. Back at her previous school, she was well-known and had many admirers. Even in college, with her excellent makeup skills, she should still be considered a campus goddess. After all, she’d still receive love notes while sitting in the library for an afternoon.
Yet Fu Mingxiu couldn’t remember her at all.
Did she really have such an unremarkable appearance?
Gu Xia felt slightly hurt.
Not knowing what expression to put on, she said with a complicated feeling, “Before, when you came to A University, you asked me at the entrance of the No. 3 cafeteria if it was indeed No. 3.”
Fu Mingxiu’s face went blank for a few seconds, then gradually changed as he finally exclaimed, “Oh!” and remembered.
Gu Xia sighed. “Am I really that forgettable? It’s only been a few days.”
“It’s not that,” Fu Mingxiu wasn’t sure what to say for a moment. After a pause, he asked, “Have you had dinner?”
“…”
Gu Xia looked at him like he was crazy, wondering where that question came from, considering they had spent the entire afternoon together in the hospital.
Fu Mingxiu realized the awkwardness of his question and ignored it, checking his watch instead. “Let’s eat together. I’ll drop you off afterward.”
Fu Mingxiu seemed like the type of person who lived a luxurious lifestyle, so when he took Gu Xia to a fancy seafood restaurant, she wasn’t surprised.
It was only natural for someone like him, with his high status, to dine at a place like the Golden Splendor Seafood House. A meal that didn’t cost thousands would be unworthy of his position.
But Gu Xia’s wallet hurt. Although her family was well-off, with a few properties and parents who ran a small business, they still couldn’t compare to someone like Fu Mingxiu. Her mother raised her to live simply, not extravagantly, and her monthly allowance was only enough for regular expenses.
This meal would likely mean she’d have to live on instant noodles for the next month.
Of course, she couldn’t say, “This place is too expensive; even if we split the bill, I can’t afford it. Let’s go eat some Shanxi knife-cut noodles instead.”
She bit the bullet and went in, thinking she’d just act coy and sweet to her parents over the weekend.
Fu Mingxiu seemed to be a regular at the restaurant. As soon as they walked in, the manager warmly welcomed them and led them to a table by the window.
The Golden Splendor was not only golden in its decor but also in its prices—and justifiably so. Although Gu Xia had never been deprived of good food, she had never eaten such a large lobster before. It was indeed delicious.
She didn’t have the habit of eating in silence, but since she wasn’t familiar with Fu Mingxiu, dining with someone she barely knew felt like a blind date, making the atmosphere a bit awkward.
After all, he was her roommate’s brother. Gu Xia decided to put in some effort to start a conversation.
Recalling what she had seen at the hospital earlier, she carefully said, “Lin Yujing and Shen Juan seem to have a pretty good relationship.”
Fu Mingxiu: “…”
Gu Xia continued, “They’re very much in love. Zhuangyuan treats our Little Whale like a treasure, afraid she might melt in his hands.”
Fu Mingxiu lowered his gaze, saying nothing.
Here we go, he thought.
Her nonsensical rambling, as if coming from some other dimension, had started again.
Fu Mingxiu remained silent, sipping his water.
Gu Xia sighed inwardly, thinking he was probably too caught up in his own sadness to respond.
Not wanting to push it too far, she decided to change the topic to something lighter. She joked, “Did you really not recognize me at the hospital? We spoke at the cafeteria entrance, after all. Am I that plain-looking, or just too ugly?”
Fu Mingxiu put down his glass, glancing at her casually.
At that time, he had been stood up and was in a bad mood, so he hadn’t paid much attention to what the girl looked like. Later, when he saw her a few more times in the hospital, he didn’t really notice her either. Now that there was nothing else to distract him, and she was sitting across from him, Fu Mingxiu took a closer look.
She had an oval face, a delicate pointed chin, fair skin, large eyes, and red lips.
Fu Mingxiu didn’t know how to describe a girl’s appearance, but he thought she had a sophisticated, mature look… quite attractive, actually.
She sat at the other end of the table, blinking lightly, her eyes bright and sparkling, as if they could speak. Her lips curved in a smile.
Based on looks alone, she was indeed charming—if you ignored the strange things she said.
For some reason, Fu Mingxiu suddenly felt a slight panic. He spaced out for a couple of seconds before realizing they had been staring
at each other across the table for quite some time.
After a brief pause, he suddenly turned his head away, mumbling in a low voice, “Not ugly.”
Gu Xia didn’t catch that and looked at him questioningly. “Hmm?”
Fu Mingxiu’s expression became awkward, his face slightly warm. He cleared his throat to cover it up, averting his eyes in a flustered manner and said, “You’re quite good-looking.”
Gu Xia was taken aback.
“When you’re not talking,” Fu Mingxiu added.
Gu Xia: “…”

Brother Fu: Author, you better explain why I, a purebred rich and handsome guy, have been single all my life without a girlfriend.
Author: Do you really not have any self-awareness as to why?
