Chapter 99 Extra 4 End
Chapter 99 Extra 4 End
This year’s World Shooting Championship was held in Japan, right at the beginning of September, when the school year started.
Lin Yujing missed his first gold medal after rejoining the team and didn’t want to miss another. Besides, the World Championship was significant, completely different from the previous small competitions.
She secretly prepared her visa and bought a ticket in advance without telling Shen Juan that she was also going. She booked a flight a day later than his.
Lin Yujing was thorough in her deception. She left her packed luggage in the dormitory, acting completely nonchalant and even expressed her regret to Shen Juan about not being able to watch him win the gold and claim first place in person.
By the end, she almost convinced herself, with her eyes even turning a bit red.
The night before Shen Juan left, He Songnan arranged a farewell dinner for him.
He Songnan chose the restaurant with the help of Little Marshmallow, eventually picking a Japanese restaurant, reasoning that it would help Shen Juan get familiar with the local cuisine, so he wouldn’t suffer from an upset stomach or any other issues that might affect his performance.
Lin Yujing and Shen Juan arrived last. When they got there, the table was already filled with people. He Songnan was holding his girlfriend in his arms, rubbing her face until it was rosy with embarrassment, and she struggled softly to get out of his embrace, whispering, “Stop… rubbing.”
He Songnan was a bit worried, “You seem thinner recently. Tomorrow, I’ll take you out for some good food.”
It was so mushy it was hard to watch.
Gu Xia and Fu Mingxiu were talking, and their conversations often sounded like debates. They frequently argued, then made up in the strangest way. At the moment, they were disputing over something again. Gu Xia said calmly, “Spending a million like it’s nothing? Are you crazy?”
“It’s my own money,” Fu Mingxiu replied irritably. “Isn’t money made to be spent?”
Gu Xia said, “I’m not saying you can’t spend it, but there’s no need. That one for 100,000 looks pretty good to me.”
“That one’s too small,” Fu Mingxiu said decisively. “If I’m giving a diamond ring as the first gift in a relationship, I can’t come off as stingy.”
Lin Yujing: “…”
Shen Juan: “…”
Lin Yujing was genuinely shocked. Were these two out of their minds? Giving a diamond ring as the first gift—were they planning to give an island when proposing?
Unable to bear it, she turned her head to look at Jiang Han and Wang Yiyang, who were sitting in the corner.
The two were huddled together, playing Hearthstone on their phones, heads touching.
“Wow, you can actually use Shade like that?”
“One shot, one kill, understand? I’ll send you straight to heaven, no problem.”
Two single guys, exuding the unmistakable aura of being perpetually unattached.
Lin Yujing felt much better watching them.
The owner of the Japanese restaurant was a friendly Japanese couple. The place wasn’t big, but business was bustling.
The group chatted while eating. Midway through, Jiang Han raised his chopsticks and said, “Brother, I really admire you,” looking at Shen Juan. “You say you’ll do something, and then you actually do it and become the best. I don’t know much about shooting or the World Championship, but if it’s you, I’m sure you can do it. I’m just waiting for next year, when I can brag about having an Olympic champion as a friend. How’s that?”
Shen Juan smiled without saying a word, picked up a piece of sushi, dipped it in sauce, and placed it on Lin Yujing’s plate.
Lin Yujing took a bite and glanced at him.
Everyone was in high spirits that night. Since Fu Mingxiu and Shen Juan had to drive, the rest indulged freely and let loose.
The sake had a low alcohol content but packed a punch afterward. Lin Yujing, confident in her drinking ability, downed it like water and was eventually carried to the car by Shen Juan.
He laid her down in the backseat, but as he straightened up, Lin Yujing reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him back.
Caught off guard, Shen Juan was nearly pulled down on top of her, steadying himself by bracing against the back of the seat.
Lin Yujing tugged him closer, giving him a kiss on the lips, her breath carrying a faint scent of alcohol. “Shen Juan.”
In the dim light of the car, Shen Juan looked down at her, “Hmm?”
“I’ll tell you a secret,” Lin Yujing whispered, holding his neck. “I secretly bought a ticket to Japan. I wanted to surprise you.”
Shen Juan: “…”
“I was afraid you wouldn’t let me go, so I hid my passport and visa under the mattress,” Lin Yujing said proudly. “You definitely won’t find them.”
Shen Juan looked at her with amusement, “Now I know where to look.”
Ignoring him, Lin Yujing continued on her own, “I want to see you win. I’ve never seen you win in person before,” she mumbled softly, “For the last time, I have to be there. I want to see it with my own eyes.”
Shen Juan paused.
He leaned down and kissed her ear, “You know everything, don’t you?”
With the sake taking full effect, Lin Yujing became more talkative. She sat up, propping herself against the seat and looking at him, “So, if you win the gold at the World Championship this year, you’ll be at the peak. What then?”
Shen Juan closed the car door, pulled her hand into his and fiddled with it absentmindedly, “I’ll come back to school. There’s nothing after that.”
He understood what she was asking, and she knew what he meant.
Rong Huai often told Lin Yujing that their senior was incredible, managing both academics and training without missing a beat, as if he never got tired. Lin Yujing didn’t respond at the time.
His surname was Shen, not Shen*—he wasn’t a god.
No one could avoid fatigue; everyone got tired. Some people just wouldn’t let you see it.
Just like in high school, he would sleep through the mornings, and later, she found out he stayed up in the studio until midnight every night, often only getting three or four hours of sleep.
Balancing both training and academics at a school like A University wasn’t easy, and it was impossible to maintain that state indefinitely.
Eventually, everyone had to make a choice.
Academics or shooting—Shen Juan would have to choose, too.
Lin Yujing turned her head to look out the car window. The flow of traffic was like a stream of light, moving slowly in segments, “I just don’t want you to have any regrets.”
Shen Juan chuckled, “After this World Championship, I don’t have any regrets left. Fate has been kind to me—it gave me you. Sometimes I think if I hadn’t given up back then, I wouldn’t have met you.”
As the lights flickered, Shen Juan turned to look at her, speaking softly, “Lin Yujing, I’m very lucky.”
—Compared to all the regrets and missed chances, you are my fortune.
—The End—
Author’s Note: I’m pretty lazy and not fond of writing extra chapters for the online version, but I made an exception here mainly because I felt that explaining Shen Juan’s situation was necessary. This is like the true hidden ending to the main story. It won’t be in the TXT or cloud versions, hahaha (or maybe it won’t be, TVT).
So, the online version is now fully completed. I may not have been able to satisfy everyone due to my limited skills, but I’ve done my best. I feel like I’ve explained everything clearly, and the ending was planned all along—I won’t be writing about college graduation or urban life.
During serialization, I sometimes updated in a hurry, so over the next period, I’ll be revising the text here and there, not making any major changes—just polishing up the language, fixing overly colloquial parts, and smoothing out the transitions. Don’t worry if you see update notifications; there won’t be new extra chapters!
The physical book will probably include stories about graduation, married life, or little ones, which I’ll write if I feel like it. The physical edition should be out next year, and I’ll announce it on Weibo.
My next project will probably be Rose Tart (tentatively), a BL esports novel. I’m not sure when the new story will start, but I’ll announce it on Weibo. If you’re interested, you can check out the synopsis in the author’s column and add it to your favorites!
That’s all! Thank you for the past few months! I will always love you all! I truly love you!! Heart!!
-Chapter End-
Shen (神) means god in Chinese, indicating that Shen Juan, despite his surname, is not superhuman.
