Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 831: Liftoff

Chapter 831: Liftoff

Lin Yu naturally fully agreed with Fish’s analysis and arrangements.

"Sister Fish is right. What we need to do now is reassemble the team as quickly as possible!"

Even though Fish was a member of the Marauders, that didn’t mean she wouldn’t save people.

If saving people offered more benefits than killing them... why not save them?

Besides, the Marauders had many different types of members. While Fish had just criticized Order’s hypocrisy, she herself was actually one of the more moderate types within the Marauders—she would kill for profit, but she also valued relationships and loyalty.

After leaving the Tribunal of Heresy with Lin Yu, armed with Raymond’s intel, Fish and Lin Yu immediately noticed the abnormality in Lilee City.

Although it was currently nighttime under curfew... the entire city of Lilee was eerily, excessively quiet!

Especially the City Defense Knight Corps, the Church, and the Tribunal members, who should have been conducting a "blanket search" with torches and weapons, filling the streets with murderous intent as if a terrifying purge were about to erupt. Yet now, there was no movement at all.

Fish wasn’t polite about it either. Sensing the bizarre, unnatural atmosphere, she found a nearby residential house, raised Grace, and smashed the lock with the butt of the gun, then kicked the door open with a loud bang, looking like a ferocious bandit breaking in to rob the place.

Inside, the three-person family she had barged in on had the child and mother lying in bed, while the father had collapsed on the kitchen floor. This indeed confirmed what Raymond had said...

"It really isn’t normal. They’re just asleep, but definitely not voluntarily. Not only is the dad lying in a wild position and posture, but even after I kicked the door like that, he didn’t wake up!"

Fish sighed, walked over to the kitchen, crouched down, poked around a bit, and put out the fire in the stove.

Seeing Fish’s cautious move regarding fire safety, Lin Yu couldn’t help but tease, "But with that attitude of yours, Sister Fish... if I were the head of this household and saw someone breaking in with a gun in the middle of the night, I’d pretend to be sound asleep too."

Fish was stunned for a moment, then nodded. "Makes sense."

With that, she stepped forward, stomped hard on one of the father’s fingers, and pressed the gun muzzle against his head.

"If you don’t open your eyes, I’ll shoot."

A pained expression flickered across the man’s face, but he didn’t wake up.

Fish holstered the gun.

"Yeah, he’s really asleep."

Lin Yu looked at Fish’s actions and said helplessly, "Sister Fish, I could actually tell with my spiritual perception that they were truly asleep."

"Oh, you could have said that earlier," Fish glanced at Lin Yu, then remembered his penchant for nonsense jokes. "Fine, Schreiber, let’s cut the jokes when we’re doing serious business!"

"Understood, Sister Fish."

Lin Yu stood at attention in response.

Fish was quite satisfied with his proper attitude. After all, the only casualty was the father’s one finger—nothing irreparable—so she just moved on.

"Can you sense anything else special? Like whether they’re dreaming, or why they won’t wake up?"

Such fine-grained perception, along with the data analysis requiring some professional knowledge of Night Valley, naturally wasn’t Lin Yu’s job.

Luckily, he had Old Zheng.

"This is indeed the same ‘Death Sleep Technique’ that hit you earlier. The affected aren’t really asleep; they’ve entered a state similar to ‘hibernation’—no dreams, no waking at all. It’s a malicious spell that temporarily strips the soul of most of its activity. Unless the caster dies or lifts it, they almost never wake up, and external physical stimuli don’t work... Of course, there are ways to break it directly, but they usually require high magical skill or specific items."

Lin Yu repeated Old Zheng’s words and added his own commentary, "You and Raymond woke up because the Inquisitor of the Tribunal had the Original Sin Wraith undo the spell for you."

Hearing Lin Yu’s words, Fish fell into thought. "In other words, if Phoenix and the others really fall asleep, we might not be able to wake them up?"

"That’s not it either," Lin Yu said seriously. "Phoenix should have high mental resistance. Just give her some mental stimulation and pour a potion down her throat, and she’ll be fine."

"And since Sister Phoenix is called ‘the Sage’ in Night Valley, once she’s awake... she’ll definitely have a way to break this Death Sleep Technique—at least in a small area, freeing the remaining Kui and Lone Boat shouldn’t be a problem."

As Lin Yu spoke, Fish suddenly realized.

"Now I get it... Ha, that even clears up who we should look for first."

"Let’s go meet up with Phoenix!"

"She’s been out with the joint team of the Holy Flame Church and the Tribunal of Heresy searching outside the city... Well, the wilds are big, so it’ll be a bit troublesome, but at least the view will be wider."

"Let’s go—we’re setting out now."

As decisive as ever, Fish made her decision immediately after hearing Lin Yu’s words.

But instead of leaving the house, she grabbed Lin Yu and led him to the ladder connecting the ground floor to the attic.

Though Lin Yu wasn’t sure what Fish was planning, he followed her up.

Then, from the attic, they opened a window and climbed onto the roof.

One rooftop after another stretched out under the silent night, undulating in dark masses like frozen waves of the sea.

"Sister Fish, why are we on the roof?"

"For the view," Fish said, leaping to a higher roof. "You know that whether it’s a wilderness rescue or chasing a fugitive inside a city, they’ll send helicopters when necessary... because the aerial view is just better."

Lin Yu climbed up after her. Fish pulled a rope from her pocket, wrapped one end around her hand, and tossed the other to Lin Yu.

"Tie it to yourself—preferably around your waist, but limbs are fine too... Just don’t tie it around your neck."

Lin Yu did as he was told, wrapping the rope twice around his waist and tying a tight knot.

From her vantage point on the building, Fish scanned the area and quickly spotted a large open space nearby—barren, overgrown with weeds, and unpaved with bricks or stones.

"Perfect."

Fish commented excitedly.

Though Lin Yu had already guessed what Fish was about to do, he still couldn’t help asking, "Sister Fish, you’re planning to..."

"Oh, I’m going to take you flying!"

Fish said, then pulled out Wrath of Yesterday and aimed it at the ground.

"Boom!"

Blinding white light exploded from the muzzle, and the immense shockwave instantly sent both of them soaring into the air like a rocket blasting off!
