Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 966: Crazy Blade and Mountain Sparrow

Chapter 966: Crazy Blade and Mountain Sparrow

“Ooh, takoyaki! Delicious!”

At the Tide Summoning Festival, a man in a sleek, high-tech silver diving suit slipped a takoyaki ball through the one-way opening in his mask and into his mouth. He hissed and gasped as it burned him, but still wore a satisfied expression.

The man had a carefully styled crew cut and a shaved slit in one eyebrow. He had a fairly proper-looking face to begin with, but right now his mouth was hanging open as he used his tongue to shift the scorching-hot ball around. Naturally, he looked rather comical, and it was easy to tell he was the impatient, reckless sort.

Beside him, a handsome young man in gray athletic wear sighed.

“Great. Why did Order pair me up with an idiot?”

He wore no diving equipment, yet somehow not a single drop of seawater touched him, as though a thin film covered his body.

Hearing this, the hotheaded young man immediately took offense. He chewed the takoyaki a couple of times, then forced himself to swallow it despite the heat.

“Mountain Sparrow, why’d you suddenly start insulting me?”

The young man called Mountain Sparrow was clearly from the Night Watchmen. Hearing the other man’s words, he looked apologetic.

“Ah, sorry, Team Leader Crazy Blade. I didn’t mean to. I just shouldn’t have said what I was thinking out loud... Even though you said we were looking for clues, you’ve been eating nonstop at the Tide Summoning Festival. That still doesn’t mean I should’ve said what I was thinking about you.”

Hearing Mountain Sparrow’s words, the hotheaded man called Crazy Blade felt even more frustrated, but for a moment, he couldn’t find a way to retort.

As the captain of Order’s Haicheng Team Two, Crazy Blade knew he did have a bit of a point against him.

He couldn’t help it. Working under Li Hua was usually so stifling that with a rare, easy assignment, he had naturally let his guard down a little. After all, they only had to stop two ordinary Second-Tier Marauders, which didn’t seem like much of a challenge to Crazy Blade.

He had made captain in Haicheng, so he was naturally above average, even among Second-Tier players.

On top of that, Mountain Sparrow here was one of the best Second-Tier players among the Night Watchmen. Since he happened to be planning to come to the Pure Abyss to gather materials, Li Hua had called in a favor and specially borrowed him to lend a hand.

With a pair like this, Crazy Blade had every reason to be confident!

But Crazy Blade also knew he’d been slacking off, so after being called out, he was more than a little short on confidence.

“I... I was just a little hungry,” he said guiltily. “Honestly, there’s so much delicious food at the Tide Summoning Festival, and you can’t get it any other time...”

Mountain Sparrow simply replied with a smile, “Sorry, I’ve been dieting lately, and I think... since we’re on a mission...”

“All right, I get it.” Crazy Blade sighed, stopped an underage Fish Person passing by, and put the remaining takoyaki into their arms. “Hey, kid, here, take this and eat it. Don’t waste any, got it?”

After handing over the takoyaki, Crazy Blade looked at Mountain Sparrow. “That said, we don’t really have any clues, do we? Even if we wanted to act, we wouldn’t have any idea where to start.”

“Are you serious, Team Leader Crazy Blade?” Mountain Sparrow sighed. “No wonder Team Leader Li Hua told me to keep a closer eye on things... You really haven’t noticed the ‘clue’ at all?”

As Mountain Sparrow spoke, Crazy Blade rubbed his nose. “Huh? You mean you’ve already found a clue?”

“All right, it looks like you really were too absorbed in the food to tear yourself away.” Mountain Sparrow rubbed his forehead and explained, “At this Tide Summoning Festival, most people are talking about one thing: two humans from the Central Sea beat up Prince Kede, and they’re planning to sell a top-tier delicacy from the Central Sea. Their target is very likely the Lost Treasure... Now, think back to our clear conditions and the number of players. Have you realized anything?”

Crazy Blade suddenly understood. “So that’s it! Damn, you’re incredible, Mountain Sparrow. You’re so good at gathering and analyzing information. I didn’t notice any of that.”

“Those two are probably Marauders, right?!”

Mountain Sparrow nodded. “Of course... That’s why I think our situation isn’t very promising. We’re both good in a head-on fight, but no matter how strong they are in direct combat, those two have the status of ‘Central Sea VIPs.’ They’ve already managed to use the festival to their advantage.”

Crazy Blade frowned and nodded at that. “That does sound like trouble.”

But before long, Crazy Blade had found a bright side to it. “So what if they’ve got the festival on their side? We can just beat them to a pulp... Let them try every trick in the book. We’ll deal with whatever comes our way!”

Crazy Blade spoke with confidence. Mountain Sparrow shook his head, but in the end, he didn’t dampen Crazy Blade’s enthusiasm.

“We’ll have to face them sooner or later... Let’s go find them.”

Crazy Blade was surprised again. “Huh? You know where they are?”

“Of course. While you were buying takoyaki, I’d already asked around. It seems they’re at the auction house, preparing to sell a ‘Present-World Treasure.’” As he spoke, Mountain Sparrow started walking in a certain direction. “They may already be meeting with Sea Eye Sovereign.”

“Oh, Sea Eye Sovereign. Our intelligence files mention him. He’s got some strength. But if he really has teamed up with the Marauders, then we’ll just have to cut him down too. The Nobles in Sleepless City in the Wasteland are already vile enough. But if we cut them all down, there might still be some who don’t deserve it. These Outer Sea Nobles in the Pure Abyss, though, drag every last one of them out and cut them down. For most of them, that’d be a bargain. It’d be the easy way out.”

Crazy Blade sighed.

Mountain Sparrow nodded to show he agreed with Crazy Blade, but still offered a word of caution. “We should put the mission first and make sure we understand what matters most.”

“Of course. I know where to draw the line!” Crazy Blade explained.

As they bantered back and forth, they had already arrived at the auction house entrance.

At that moment, plenty of well-dressed, prosperous-looking socialites from various races were coming and going.

Just as Crazy Blade and Mountain Sparrow were about to enter, a Sea Demon stopped them.

“Sorry, you two. May I ask if you have a membership badge, an invitation, or a letter of introduction?”

Looking at the Sea Demon attendant, who was smiling but clearly looking down on them, Crazy Blade spoke irritably. “What, do I need someone to introduce me just to come in and buy something?”

“Your auction house is ridiculous! You won’t even let people through the door!”

He shouted as the Sea Demon attendant discreetly stepped back. Two burly Sea Demon guards came over.

“Sorry. Our auction house is members-only, and space is limited, so we can’t possibly accommodate everyone. We have to screen visitors for the appropriate qualifications...”

“Are you discriminating against humans? Don’t I look qualified to you?!”

Crazy Blade continued to act furious, making as if to force his way in.

The two Sea Demon guards blocked him, and the three began shoving one another.

Mountain Sparrow cleared his throat. “I have a membership badge. I just forgot to put it on.”

He took a membership badge from his pocket, pinned it to his chest, then stepped forward and pulled the Sea Demons away from Crazy Blade.
