Volume 12 - Yomi-no-kuni: Chapter 223 - Stunning Yomi-no-kuni
“Brother Wakarai!” A yellow thunderbolt streaked across the air just as Wakarai was flung back, coughing up blood. It blazed even faster than Wakarai’s fall. From within the light, another of the eight thunder gods appeared, Fushirai.
Fushirai darted between Lily and Wakarai, his hands armed with long, dark-gold metal claws. “You wench! How dare you lay a hand on my brother!” With Wakarai unable to defend himself, Fushirai lashed out. Yellow lightning burst from his claws, arcing across the air in jagged bolts aimed straight at Lily.
Fushirai’s speed surprised even Lily. She had intended to finish Wakarai off but had no time to dodge. Gritting her teeth, she braced for the incoming strike and chose to meet it head-on.
Scarlet sword energy surged from Lily’s blade and clashed against the thunderbolts. The collision lit up the darkness with a sharp crack as lightning shattered into a spray of sparks under the force of her blade.
The scattering sparks tore through Lily’s outer robes, though her body remained unharmed. Her sword energy crashed into one of Fushirai’s claws, forcing the divine weapon back against his chest.
Caught off guard, Fushirai’s body convulsed mid-air from the force of the blow, spinning uncontrollably. But his agility remained intact. He twisted into somersaults to absorb the impact, then steadied himself and lunged forward, claws aimed directly at Lily’s chest.
Despite his speed, Lily responded with precision. Without moving her arm, she flicked her wrist, sending Oborozuki Muramasa into a graceful arc. The blade danced like a needle through silk. Steel clashed against steel as she deflected his strike effortlessly.
Even without using her full strength, Lily’s power easily overpowered Fushirai’s. With a subtle shove, she knocked his claws aside. She then kicked off the air, sending waves of cherry blossom petals in her wake, while driving her other leg straight into his chest. The impact echoed like distant thunder across the abyss.
The kick landed with deadly force. Though Fushirai wore enchanted garments and a pinnacle-tier Spirit Artifact beneath, his chest plate caved in, snapping several ribs. Even Lily’s divine wooden sandals, crafted from sacred timber, splintered under the sheer force. Her current power as a high-tier Supreme God had already surpassed what ordinary battle gear could withstand.
Fushirai gritted his teeth as blood spurted from his mouth and nose, his eyes bulging from the pain. He spiraled through the air, tumbling helplessly.
“Hmph. Die.”
With Fushirai stunned, Lily’s eyes narrowed with killing intent. Whether samurai or Supreme God, she showed no mercy to enemies. Without hesitation, she shot forward like a streak of crimson light, blade raised to finish him.
She became a flash of scarlet light as she charged over.
“Brother Fushirai!” A thunderous voice rang out from above, crashing down like a wave of pressure. Descending from the sky came the third and most imposing thunder god, Kurorai.
His body was carved from blackened lightning, and even his beard and hair writhed with violent, storm-born energy. Wielding two massive maces wreathed in golden thunder, Kurorai dropped from above and swung them at Lily’s head with terrifying force.
Kurorai’s raw strength surpassed even Wakarai’s. Lily couldn’t afford to take the strike lightly. Abandoning her pursuit, she focused her energy, gripping her sword with both hands to meet the blow.
A deafening rumble split the air as metal clashed with thunder.
The twin maces crashed against her blade with a force that shook the void. It was like the judgment of thunder itself. The impact surged through her arms, filling them with searing pain.
Kurorai and the woman in red trembled in mid-air as their powers collided. A deep, resonating shockwave burst outward in a perfect ring, tearing through the battlefield. Demons within a kilometer were hurled into the air like leaves in a storm, while tens of thousands of onlookers recoiled and scattered in fear.
Even so, neither Lily nor Kurorai gave an inch. Despite his reputation for overwhelming brute strength, Kurorai found himself held in place by the sheer force of Lily’s resistance.
“What?” Lord Umashi’s expression twisted in disbelief. He had planned to ambush Lily while she was distracted, but now he froze. She wasn’t just as fast as the lightning-quick Fushirai, she matched Kurorai in strength, blow for blow.
“No… something’s off,” Lord Umashi muttered. “Kurorai poured everything into that single strike, while Lily had to adapt on the fly and still managed to block it. If she stood firm under those conditions, then her true strength may actually surpass his!”
Lily held her ground in a direct confrontation, not yielding an inch. She still had the vigor of youth, while Kurorai, for all his might, couldn’t maintain his peak output indefinitely.
“I’ll crush you!” Kurorai snarled. Bulging veins snaked across his body, his jaw clenched tight. Black lightning flickered from his eyes and mouth as he unleashed another barrage at Lily, pushing himself to the limit.
Lily’s hands quivered slightly, her hair in disarray, yet her Blood Lunar Force surged with unshakable strength. It bloomed like a crimson Higanbana in full glory, fierce, radiant, and unyielding. Against Kurorai’s onslaught, she held firm.
Gradually, Kurorai’s movements grew sluggish. More sparks leaked from his body, betraying the toll the prolonged battle was taking on him.
“Brother Kurorai!” Wakarai had recovered. Though his divine energy was drained, he had healed his internal wounds and purged the Dark Lunar Force. Lightning surged around him once more as he launched himself at Lily in a furious storm.
Lily’s gaze sharpened. She pulled back her sword just in time to parry Kurorai’s incoming maces, sidestepping and redirecting the force to pull him downward. In a swift motion, she leapt upward, intercepting Wakarai’s descending lightning spear with a flash of steel.
She twisted with the momentum, deflecting Wakarai’s spear with Oborozuki Muramasa and spinning gracefully to deliver a sharp slash aimed at his shoulder.
The blow struck with force, but a burst of lightning flared as Wakarai raised a shield in his left hand to block the attack. No longer bare-chested, he summoned a gleaming silver suit of armor in a flash of white light. Her strikes were too powerful now, even the shockwaves could cause harm without full protection.
Even with high-grade spiritual armor and a divine shield, the clash drained his energy. Wakarai shifted to the side and lunged forward, spear thrusting once more.
At the same time, Kurorai attacked from the opposite direction, swinging both maces. Lily weaved through the air like a phantom, somersaulting upward to evade. Taking the high ground, she brought her sword down on the twin maces, sending sparks of dark lightning flying from Kurorai’s mouth. Without pause, she spun mid-air and delivered a powerful kick toward him.
Lily slammed her foot down onto Wakarai’s lightning shield with a thunderous impact, launching him backward through the air.
“You wretch! I’ll tear you apart!” Fushirai had managed to recover somewhat, burning through divine energy and rare treasures. He shot forward like a streak of yellow lightning, launching a surprise attack from behind Lily.
With a flash of steel, Lily raised Oborozuki Muramasa over her shoulder, deflecting Fushirai’s dual claws with a sharp metallic clash.
“I’ll kill you!”
“Die!”
Infuriated and wounded, Wakarai, Kurorai, and Fushirai abandoned any thought of capturing Lily. Their pride burned hotter than their pain, they now only wanted her dead. The three thunder gods surged with divine energy and struck together. Waves of dark, silver, and golden lightning collided around Lily in a chaotic storm.
Lily danced between them, her blade flashing like scarlet lightning. She deflected strikes from all directions, countered with lethal precision, and held her ground against three thunder gods, without yielding an inch.
“What… Those are three of the eight thunder gods, legendary across all of Yomi! How is Kagami Lily fighting them alone?”
The surrounding Yomi and abyssal demons stared in stunned disbelief, unable to comprehend what they were witnessing.
“How is this possible? Isn’t Mirror Girl Lily just a beauty coveted by every lord in Yomi? They said she was the most beautiful woman in all three realms, destined to be possessed by the strong, so how is she this powerful? She’s not just facing three Supreme Gods alone… these are three of the thunder gods, known for their teamwork and invincibility!”
“My heavens… Just how strong is she?”
Nearby, a squadron of three-eyed bull demons floated on ancient octagonal altars, preparing to join the siege on Hekiraku City. Their leader, Mauro Kidou, the very one who had crushed Lily when she first fell into Yomi, watched in disbelief. His wide nostrils flared as all three eyes stared, trembling.
“Was I blind? What a waste of three eyes… I actually thought I could claim this woman for myself? I wouldn’t survive even with a hundred lives.”
From afar, Queen Kaguya, Rakshasa-Onna, and the others stood frozen in awe. Even Kaguya-hime forgot to continue casting her spells.
“Lily…” she murmured. She knew she couldn’t defeat even one of those thunder gods alone, yet Lily was now battling three, and holding her ground.
“Lily… you never stop surprising me.” Even while dancing, Ayaka couldn’t help but glance toward the crimson figure with a mix of admiration and wonder.
In a shadowed crevice deep within the abyss, a lone scribe with moss-green skin, a beard streaked with ink, and amber eyes recorded the unfolding battle. His pen hovered in the air as his gaze followed Lily with astonishment.
“Mirror Girl, Kagami Lily… If the rumors are true, she fell into Yomi less than a year ago. Back then, she was a fugitive, hounded by demons at every turn, barely surviving. And now? She’s strong enough to stand against three of the eight thunder gods.”
“I have chronicled the history of Yomi-no-kuni for countless ages. Kagami Lily is no fragile beauty, she is the goddess who will shake the underworld to its very foundations. Her name will be etched into the chronicles that have endured since the dawn of time.”
The scribe possessed great strength himself, yet like the Lord of Oblivion, he chose neutrality. He remained in the shadows, watching the tides of history without interfering, recording only when events were too monumental to ignore.
And now, from this day forward, Kagami Lily would rise as a legend never before seen in the long and bloody history of Yomi-no-kuni, a realm that had endured since time itself began.
