Chapter 1015: Level 100+ Boss Battle

Luna cleared the fissure across Hozumi’s sixth rice terrace in a streak of lightning and drove her Stormblade into the Templebreaker Sovereign’s nearest knee.

The blade sank through the joint. Before she could pull it free, fresh rock climbed over the wound and clamped around her sword.

"Oh, screw off!"

Luna dismissed her Stormblade as a hooked forelimb swept toward her. She dissolved into lightning, flashed beneath the strike, and reappeared beside the leg with another sword in her grip.

Above her, the Sovereign’s armored back blotted out the gate. All three mouths opened toward Luna as she sliced into its knee.

"GGRRRAAAAAAAAAAKH!!"

Its roar blasted water across the terrace, and the Ninth Garrison locked their battered shields behind Kaiden.

"Citadel formation!" their captain shouted. "Watch the vents!"

Kaiden shifted into Lust and fed warmth through all six bonds. Luna’s slash arrived faster, biting deeper, while Calypso’s axe howled in her grip.

"Darling, ready?" the demoness called, running toward the hooks guarding its mouths.

"Naturally."

The Sovereign lunged after Luna, and Calypso caught its lowest hook on the haft of her axe. The collision slammed her boots through the paddy’s mud into the rock beneath.

"Ngh! Heavy bastard! I’m having flashbacks to a certain good boy!"

On the other side of the world, Pebble sneezed.

Kaiden ducked beneath the hook Calypso held and buried his greatsword in the joint behind it. He leaned his weight onto the blade, sawing through the tendons while Lust kept pouring strength into the demoness beside him.

Calypso gave ground under its weight, then twisted with the charge and hauled the hooked arm sideways. Nyx folded the space beneath its leading feet to carry the stumble farther.

The boss stumbled past Luna, exposing its underside to Bastet.

The felinid faced it from beyond the melee, her gold-threaded veils lifting in the heat gathering around her. Sunlight blazed over her bare waist as she extended a palm toward the creature’s belly.

"How generous of you."

Bastet’s solar fire struck beneath its ribs. Armor flashed orange, then white, and burst as molten rock while the paddy beneath it erupted in a column of steam.

The Sovereign’s legs buckled. Its three mouths plowed into the flooded terrace hard enough to throw a wave over the retaining wall.

"There we go~" Calypso purred, delighted, her tail curling behind her.

A spearman wiped the spray from his eyes and stared at the buried legs.

"She tripped it. Captain, she tripped that thing!"

"I can see, damn it! Left leg, with me!"

The captain led his spears around its flank while the boss fought to lift itself. Luna had returned to the damaged knee.

"Aria! This one’s open!"

Luna sprang aside as Aria sent a silver lance through the cut. Moonlight punched out the far side of the joint, carrying a fist of black meat with it.

"Life is always easier when an electric gremlin screeches at my enemy~"

"You’re welcome!" Luna screeched.

The Sovereign wrenched a forelimb loose and raked its hook across Calypso’s upper arm. Blood splashed down her red skin, and Carnage sent smoke boiling from the wound.

She snagged the retreating limb under her axe head and yanked it toward her.

"Where are you going? We’re still playing!"

"Its back!" the Ninth’s captain warned. "The vents are turning!"

Kaiden looked up from the forelimb he was attacking. Above the Sovereign’s mouths, the crown rotated until its vents pointed downhill toward Aria and Bastet.

Rock streamed up from the paddy into those hollow channels. Slabs packed inside them, and light swelled behind the ammunition with a rising, teeth-rattling whine.

"Alexandra, can you cover the openings?"

"I’ll try!"

Alexandra sealed the mouths of the loaded vents with gold. She stood behind Calypso with both palms up, holding her barriers against the pressure building beneath them.

The Sovereign fired its rock barrage straight into her shields.

"Ngh! Kai!"

Kaiden sent more of Lust’s warmth into her bond. The gold bowed outward, held, and the stone cannon beneath each shield burst along its sides.

The shrapnel ripped through the Sovereign’s back. A vent snapped off at the root and tumbled past Calypso, who ducked behind the hooked arm she was wrestling.

"Oh, Lexi! That was lovely!" Calypso beamed at her.

"Please keep its arm there, Caly!"

Alexandra fitted a fresh barrier beneath the trapped forelimb, giving Calypso a solid surface to wrench it against. Kaiden dragged his greatsword through the joint from the other side.

The limb broke between them. As Calypso pulled it across the Sovereign’s face, Kaiden dropped Lust for Wrath and detonated a thrust beneath its shoulder.

He wrenched his burning blade out through the collapsing socket and returned to Lust, feeding Calypso’s next swing.

Calypso’s rising axe split the leftmost mouth down to its hinge.

"SKRRAAAAAAAAAAGH!!"

The cry broke into a wet gargle from the ruined opening. The other two mouths kept screaming as the boss dragged itself upright on its rear legs.

On its flank, one of the Ninth backed away from a fallen vent and stared at Alexandra.

"She made it shoot itself!"

"That’s the maid," the man beside him blurted, bewildered. "The one who was healing us!"

"I know who she is! Did you see what she just did?!"

Their captain seized the first man’s harness and hauled him away from the dragging shell. Beyond them, Alexandra was fitting another shield against Calypso’s arm while Kaiden slashed beneath it.

"Grey’s still fighting," the spearman said. "He’s doing all that for them while he’s cutting it apart himself?"

"Keep your eyes up," the captain told him, though his own gaze followed Kaiden. "You can stare when it stops trying to step on us."

Fresh rock climbed its wounded knee, burying Aria’s lance. Another stream rose toward the face Calypso had cleaved apart.

Luna watched her work disappear beneath the armor again.

"Kai, could you switch this bitch off? I’m getting a splitting headache over here."

Alice’s halo flashed white around the edges.

"> <There, Big Brother! Behind the mouths. All that mana goes through the violet part!>

A gold line ran from the halo to the pulse beneath the crown of vents.

Kaiden stayed beneath the Sovereign’s neck and closed Envy around Alice’s mark, giving up Lust’s warmth for the cold. The mineral feed stuttered, leaving half-grown plates jutting from its injured leg.

He wedged his greatsword beneath one and pried it off before the monster could finish growing it.

The pulse brightened. Rock crept over his blade, and Kaiden ripped it free with a grunt as the cold dragged harder behind his sternum.

’Still too much fight in you.’

He ducked a hook, slashed through the tendons behind its wrist, and returned to Lust. His warmth rushed into the women around him as he backed out from beneath the swinging arm.

"Nyx, can you lift Luna up to those vents?"

"Oh, gladly~"

Nyx gripped Luna’s waist with her spatial power. The gremlin felt herself leave the ground and looked toward the damaged crown with immediate, vicious understanding.

"If you miss, I’m haunting your fat ass!"

"Then you’d better hold still, bestie."

The Sovereign tried to step over Calypso and reach the women preparing to throw Luna at it.
