Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 1011: Just Work for Me Obediently

Chapter 1011: Just Work for Me Obediently

Saul followed Shaquille into the underground of the Academy of Practice.

Both the Academy of Practice and Academy of Knowledge had pipes extending from the Mechanical Heart in their underground areas.

It could also be said that several of Sky City's most important areas were all connected to the Mechanical Heart.

These important areas also had passages leading into the Mechanical Heart, but most of the time these passages were sealed. Ophelia only entered through spatial transfer arrays, trying to minimize wear on the Mechanical Heart as much as possible.

But now the spatial transfer array that had once been located in the White Glass Palace had disappeared. When spatial arrays weren't in use, they had almost no magical fluctuations, so now no one knew where Ophelia had moved the external array.

Therefore, Saul could now only try to enter the Mechanical Heart through the connected pipes.

Under Shaquille's guidance, he found a pipe mixed among other ventilation outlets, then first extended his fate lines into it.

The passage was hollow inside, and the twisting, folding pipes had no effect on the fate lines.

It was just that after descending to a certain depth, the air began to become hazy and viscous, as if large amounts of steam were mixed in the pipes.

Saul's fate lines continued deeper.

The pipe walls began to become blurry and rough, covered with dried, shriveled fragments.

They should be limbs from some kind of creature, but because they were so fragmented, there was no way to identify directly what creature they came from through sight alone.

There was also no way to confirm whether they were from those low-rank wizards who had been sacrificed to Sky City as nourishment.

Saul's mental power continued downward without encountering any obstruction.

Then semi-liquid, semi-solid substances began appearing in the pipes. This unknown substance had almost fused with the pipes, gently expanding and contracting with a rhythm like a normal person's heartbeat.

Seeing this, Saul knew he was about to reach his destination.

Although Saul's fate lines entered very smoothly, the pipes weren't actually without danger. It was just that for fate lines, many traps and restrictions existed on another level entirely and couldn't affect such high-level existences as fate lines at all.

If anyone else wanted to enter the Mechanical Heart through the pipes, it would be impossible to go as smoothly as Saul.

Even fourth-rank wizards would need to spend considerable time, and the commotion and chain reactions caused would very likely alert Ophelia.

Saul continued deeper, bypassing a complex mechanical facility that looked like it could easily explode and going toward a place below that had spatial feedback.

That should be where Ophelia had once conducted experiments with Saul to explore contact with the Prismatic World.

As the fate lines went deeper, the pipes became smooth again. The metallic feeling weakened, more like a young girl with silver skin—smooth and warm to the touch.

Finally, the fate lines broke through the last layer of obstruction and entered the interior of the Mechanical Heart.

But to Saul's slight disappointment, Ophelia wasn't here either!

After confirming by circling around, Saul searched almost every corner but found no traces of Ophelia or her magical fluctuations.

The entire Mechanical Heart was very clean, as if no one had been here for years.

Saul withdrew his hand and looked at Shaquille, who was standing aside and didn't dare leave. "She's not in the Mechanical Heart."

Shaquille had been waiting for Saul to enter the pipe and then discover he couldn't get in, or encounter obstruction and take forceful measures. Who knew that before he could even think of countermeasures, Saul was already telling him the city lord wasn't inside?

No, how do you know?

Shaquille's head was full of question marks.

"Besides the White Glass Palace and Mechanical Heart, could Ophelia be anywhere else?"

Shaquille helplessly spread his hands. "I really don't know about that. Actually, we usually aren't very clear about City Lord Ophelia's movements anyway. After all, as you know, if we wanted to find the city lord, we could just go to the White Glass Palace and grab any city lord avatar to report to."

Saul crossed his arms, his fingers continuously tapping his arm. "Right, the former Ophelia was everywhere, but the current Ophelia has none left. So where could she have gone?"

Ophelia was obviously deliberately concealing her whereabouts, making outsiders think she was in Sky City.

"Among you, who was the last to see Ophelia?"

Sweat appeared on Shaquille's forehead. He discovered that he couldn't answer any of the questions Saul was asking.

"Well, the city lord suddenly sent us a message to close the White Glass Palace studies, so none of us saw her."

"When did she send you that message?"

Shaquille quickly reported a date.

Saul calculated in his mind and discovered this date was actually shortly after he had escaped from Sky City.

He pondered inwardly, After I left Sky City, I encountered Kismet. Kismet said he would help me settle things with Ophelia. And after that, Ophelia really didn't come to pursue me. Could her sudden seclusion be related to Kismet?

The former master of the diary, Douglas, who had wandered outside for hundreds of years without returning, suddenly came back to the wizard world. Could it be because Kismet and Ophelia did something together? Like they partnered to send Douglas some kind of signal?

At that time, Ophelia had failed her advancement but treated Saul as her next channel to advance to the fifth rank. If Kismet had some method that could make Ophelia give up pursuing Saul and cut off contact with the outside world from then on, it must be related to advancement.

To know how to advance to the fifth rank, of course directly asking a fifth-rank wizard would be most efficient!

Saul struggled to connect the three people together.

If Ophelia is really also related to Douglas, then she's very likely not in Sky City but on Iskaper Continent!

Thinking of this, Saul flew directly to the high altitude above Sky City and looked down at the busy wizards and ordinary people on the ground.

Then his voice spread throughout all of Sky City.

"Your Excellency Ophelia, I am Saul. I want to borrow your Sky City. If you don't come forward to refuse within one day, I'll consider that you've tacitly agreed!"

The people on the island were in an uproar. Those who knew Saul and those who didn't were all stunned.

Academy of Practice Dean Shaquille, who had just been following Saul, opened his mouth even wider.

"Borrow what?"

His voice wasn't loud, but Saul in the high altitude still heard it clearly.

Saul lowered his head, his eyes already showing Shaquille's bewildered expression.

"If Ophelia doesn't come forward to refuse, everyone in Sky City needs to leave within ten days. The transfer work will be handled by the Academy of Practice dean, and everything should proceed according to your usual practices."

Only now did Shaquille understand what it meant that there was no most surprising, only more surprising.

If not for maintaining his dignity as a third-rank wizard, he really wanted to learn from the other ordinary people and sit down on the ground, throw off his sleeves and quit.

This kind of thing about moving all the island's people within ten days... damn it, there was no precedent!

After Saul finished speaking, he completely ignored others' reactions and flew directly into the White Glass Palace's main hall, sitting on the city lord's throne that Ophelia's avatar had once occupied.

Anyway, Saul wouldn't waste the eleven days he needed to wait.

After eleven days, he would begin transforming this isolated island into a fallacy carrier—that is, bait carrying the essence of error—and then feed it to the abyss!

This transformation was destined to be extremely difficult, but Saul had already decided he would invite Douglas to come research together.

After Saul discovered that the abyss seemed to want to prevent Camus from erupting the black tide, he found that all channels that could contact Camus were cut off.

Since Douglas must make the black tide completely erupt and let the abyss completely open apocalyptic erosion, then just work for him obediently!

Otherwise, Saul would just lie down and not work!

Let him observe ghosts!
