Chapter 30 – It’s not in our agreement
*Edited on 5/28! Thanks for the wait.
Hihi, sorry for the delay. I got hit with a bunch of things in life. I have some more free time so I ended up self editing so it’s not perfect. My current proof reader is busy with school so if anyone would like to volunteer to proof read, that would be lovely. Having a proofreader would help a lot for more regular releases.
Chapter 30 – It’s not in our agreement
This official announcement came unexpectedly, yet not so unexpectedly.
To Shao Cixin, her three-year marriage contract with Wen Zhihan might not be watertight. If not exposed today, it would be exposed tomorrow.
So, since it was out now, it was best to accept it naturally.
After posting a clarifying Weibo, Shao Cixin resumed her work, ignoring any trending topics.
Rong Ya, on the other hand, wasn’t having it easy.
As soon as Shao Cixin’s official Weibo was posted, she acknowledged herself as Wen Zhihan’s wife and indirectly admitted herself as the Shao family’s heiress.
The story of a commercial marriage and the rich heiress working incognito suddenly became a hot topic among netizens. Everyone had countless questions and looked forward to more information.
So all the major media outlets set their sights on Shao Cixin.
If they couldn’t interview Wen Zhihan, couldn’t interview Shao Heng, could they not interview Shao Cixin who was working in the entertainment circle?
Therefore, the number of interview invitations Rong Ya received in the past few days skyrocketed.
She foresaw countless questions rushing towards Shao Cixin.
However, whether Shao Cixin would accept the interviews was another matter.
“No,” Shao Cixin casually responded, sitting in Rong Ya’s office.
“There’s nothing to be interviewed about, too boring. I don’t need this to increase my popularity, and neither Wen Zhihan nor the Shao family needs this event to increase their exposure.”
Rong Ya swayed the tea in her cup and raised her eyebrows.
Shao Cixin lifted her cup to take a sip.
“Refuse them all. I have a lot of work to do. I’m going into production in a few days, and I, Shao, am busy and fulfilled[1].”
“Alright, I got it,” said Rong Ya. “Do well with your acting, good luck, future film queen.”
Shao Cixin: “Thanks for your good words, thanks for your good words.”
In her previous life, she hadn’t won a single award. This time, she must win!
Otherwise, her rebirth would be in vain!
Rong Ya put down her tea cup, suddenly thought of Lin Mumu, and asked, “Are you satisfied with Mumu being by your side this period?”
She wouldn’t always be around Shao Cixin. The person accompanying Shao Cixin like a shadow was Lin Mumu, and this would be the case when they went into production.
As her agent, it was her duty to be concerned about the people around Shao Cixin.
Shao Cixin nodded with satisfaction: “Super satisfied. Mumu is reliable, capable, smart and cute. Anyone who uses her will be satisfied. I just regret not meeting this assistant earlier!”
Lin Mumu was much more down-to-earth than her previous assistant, Xiao Sha. She didn’t care about her background. After all, no matter how powerful her background was, it wouldn’t affect her salary.
“As long as you’re satisfied, call me if you have any issues during the production,” Rong Ya said.
“Don’t worry.”
“And how are things going with your President Wen? She isn’t making things difficult for you, is she?”
Upon hearing this, Shao Cixin thought of that night’s incident, and her mood became especially subtle.
She picked up her teacup and pretended to be nonchalant: “It’s fine, very harmonious, she doesn’t make things difficult for me…”
Wen Zhihan’s gentleness wasn’t fake, her considerateness wasn’t fake, she wouldn’t deceive her.
She didn’t know why, but she had this kind of confidence in Wen Zhihan.
Perhaps because she had nothing valuable for Wen Zhihan to strive for.
Wen Zhihan, a person who was attractive inside and out. For her, everything in the world was within her grasp.
She didn’t need to worry about wanting to get anything.
—— This was Shao Cixin’s understanding of her.
But now her understanding of her had been overthrown by half.
In the past, she considered her as a Buddha[2], said it for a long time, got used to it, and unconsciously truly regarded her as a desireless Buddha.
Then Wen Zhihan proved to her with her actions —— she was a person, a person with flesh and blood, with physiological needs.
In a word, Wen Zhihan was now, in her mind, a Buddha and also a person who wasn’t what she appeared to be.
—— On the surface, she appeared gentle, but in reality, she could make people weak in the knees.
The weirdest thing was that she was now somewhat thinking about this matter.
It seemed… she was hooked on Wen Zhihan.
Rong Ya didn’t notice her subtle silence but was relieved to hear her words, hoping for her artist’s well-being regardless of anything.
“As long as you’re living well, that’s good.
And the paparazzi will definitely be trying to take photos of you two recently. Remember to give Mr. Wen a heads up to take preventive measures.”
“Let them take photos, anyway, we won’t be able to provide any interesting shots.”
Shao Cixin casually leaned back in her chair.
Although she and Wen Zhihan had already slept together[3], it was just that one time. After that day, they returned to their usual mode of interaction.
With their interaction mode, there was neither confrontation nor affection. What interesting thing could be photographed?
But Rong Ya made an important point: “But perhaps President Wen doesn’t like being photographed?”
Shao Cixin was taken aback, feeling that she made sense.
Being a celebrity, once the relationship is public, it is inevitable to be targeted by the paparazzi.
Wen Zhihan said she didn’t mind being her shield, but she didn’t seem to have said she didn’t mind being photographed…
“I’ll ask her later,” Shao Cixin said.
If Wen Zhihan were particularly bothered, then they would use the power of money to force them away.
Guanglan Investments, CEO’s office.
Wen Zhihan took off her gold-rimmed glasses and rubbed her temples.
Suddenly, her phone rang, displaying a name she was familiar with.
This junior sister of hers seldom took the initiative to call her.
“Cixin.”
Wen Zhihan picked up the phone and put it to her ear.
“What’s up?”
“Senior sister Wen~”
A familiar, coquettish voice.
Wen Zhihan gently raised her eyebrows.
In an instant, the dull and tasteless atmosphere seemed to bloom with a seductive flower, making everything vivid suddenly.
With a faint smile playing at her lips, Wen Zhihan asked, “Do you need my help again?”
“Not really,” the person on the phone immediately switched to a serious tone, “I just wanted to start with something pleasant to please you.
“How was it? Did you like it?”
Lowering her gaze with a smile, Wen Zhihan’s eyes shone brightly: “Mm, I liked it. Thank you, Miss Shao.”
“No problem at all, Miss Wen.”
Having made the light-hearted introduction, Shao Cixin proceeded to the main topic.
“Wen Zhihan, I have a question and I want to hear your opinion.”
“What is it?”
“As you know, as a somewhat famous actress, I’m definitely going to be chased and photographed by paparazzi. And a few days ago, I made our marriage public. So, as the wife of this actress, you’re likely to be photographed in the future.”
“Hmm? Even family members get photographed?”
“Yeah, they’re just that bored!”
“So, what’s your question?”
“I just want to ask you, are you bothered by being photographed?” Shao Cixin held her phone, standing in a corner where no one passed by, looking at the scenery outside the window as she spoke, “If you don’t mind, we’ll just ignore it. If you do mind, we can use the power of money!”
Wen Zhihan slowly stood up, her lips slightly parted, but she didn’t speak immediately.
After a two-second pause.
“Cixin, let’s have dinner together tonight. We can talk face to face, okay?”
“That works.
“By the way, I’ve recently found a restaurant that suits both of our tastes. This time, I’ll treat you. If you’re interested, I’ll make the reservation.”
Listening to her, Wen Zhihan could already sense her buoyant spirit and couldn’t help but chuckle: “Go ahead and book it.”
At 7:23 p.m.
Shao Cixin received a message from Wen Zhihan at the restaurant.
[President Wen]: Sorry, Cixin, I can’t have dinner with you tonight.
[President Wen]: There’s some work left to resolve. I need to stay in the company for an extra hour.
Shao Cixin glanced at the time.
Hadn’t Guanglan’s work hours already ended?
It seemed like this piece of work had sprung up unexpectedly.
Out of concern, she checked in on the overworked Wen Zhihan.
[Shao Cixin]: Have you eaten?
[President Wen]: Not yet.
Shao Cixin looked down at the freshly served, steaming dishes.
These dishes were originally ordered for Wen Zhihan, and she couldn’t finish them all by herself.
Discarding them would be even more inappropriate.
When she was a child, her family was poor, and Lu Lan had always educated her to cherish food, that wasting food was shameful, so she couldn’t bear to waste all these dishes on the table.
If Lu Lan found out that she wasted food, she would be scolded.
Moreover, these dishes all looked so delicious…
After pondering a bit, she picked up her phone again.
[Shao Cixin]: Wen Zhihan, do you want me to send you some takeout?
[Shao Cixin]: This one is free, including delivery fees, and there’s even an incredibly beautiful actress providing dining and drinking companionship!
[Cixin]: I’m here.
Upon receiving this message, Wen Zhihan immediately put down her work and left her office to meet her.
Unfortunately, the only elevator was on its way down.
After waiting for a bit, “ding,” the elevator finally arrived.
When she looked up, she saw Shao Cixin standing in the elevator, holding stuff in both hands like a magic trick.
“Surprise!”
Shao Cixin was grinning from ear to ear.
“I even signed an autograph for the security guard downstairs, how about that for speed?”
Wen Zhihan was taken aback. She didn’t expect her to come up on her own.
Coming to her senses, she immediately reached out to help carry things and softly said, “You’ve worked hard. I’m sorry, even though I proposed to have dinner, I couldn’t keep the appointment.”
“There’s nothing to apologize for,” Shao Cixin said unconcernedly, “It’s work, after all, unexpected things happen, no one can predict it. And we’re still having dinner together — wait, you do have time to eat, right?!”
“I do.” Wen Zhihan chuckled.
“That’s good.” Shao Cixin was relieved.
Wen Zhihan led her into the office, casually asking, “What made you think of bringing me food?”
Her office was large, with a floor-to-ceiling window that offered a broad view of Feng City.
This was Shao Cixin’s first visit. After looking around, she put the takeout on the table.
“My mom said we shouldn’t waste food. I can’t finish all this by myself, and it was just served, so I decided to bring it over.”
Wen Zhihan closed the door and responded softly, “Mm, Auntie Lu is right.”
Shao Cixin pretended to be mature and complimented, “Mm, Auntie Lu likes good girls like you who are conscious of such things.
“By the way, you’re alone? Where are your assistants and secretaries? I didn’t see anyone outside when I came in.”
Wen Zhihan sat down on the couch, slowly opening the takeout box.
“I let them leave early, it was getting late.”
“Wow, bosses who stay late to work overtime themselves are quite rare these days…”
After Shao Cixin finished her comment, she sat next to Wen Zhihan, opened the takeout box, and presented the beautifully prepared dishes in front of Wen Zhihan, like she was offering a treasure.
“So, what do you think Wen Zhihan, don’t the dishes look appetizing?”
Wen Zhihan nodded.
Shao Cixin felt validated and happy. Her appetite even improved slightly.
The two of them ate and chatted. The atmosphere was harmonious and light-hearted.
“Wen Zhihan, you need to eat more. I’ll be joining the cast in a few days, I need to watch my figure, so I can’t eat much.” Shao Cixin said regretfully as she looked at the food.
Wen Zhihan gently nodded her head, remembering today’s events. She continued the unfinished topic and asked the question that hadn’t been asked today, “Cixin, what do paparazzi usually take pictures of?”
After some thought, Shao Cixin replied, “They definitely wouldn’t dare to take pictures of you working. Most likely, they would only dare to take some shots when you’re with me.
“If they’re feeling bold, they might stake out after you finish work, to see if you have any secret lovers or something similar.”
Wen Zhihan understood and softly said, “So, it means from now on, we have to act loving in front of the public, right?”
Shao Cixin suddenly realized the contradiction.
She had previously said she wouldn’t interfere if Wen Zhihan found someone, but now they were moving from only acting loving in front of their parents to acting loving in public. The scope had instantly broadened.
So, once Wen Zhihan was caught with someone new, given their current level of fame, the internet would surely explode, their parents would definitely find out, and all the efforts they made before would go down the drain.
She felt a bit regretful.
To maintain one lie, you have to spin countless others.
If she had known it would be like this, she would have been honest with her parents that there were no feelings in the first place!
Wen Zhihan looked at her and pulled out a tissue to wipe the corner of her lips.
Her action was gentle, but the words she spoke were somewhat cold, “Cixin, this clause isn’t in our agreement.”
Shao Cixin bit the tip of her chopsticks, shyly looking at Wen Zhihan, “Senior sister…”
Wen Zhihan threw the tissue into the trash can next to them, her tone light and soothing, “We can add it.”
Shao Cixin’s eyes immediately brightened.
A Bodhisattva, she’s a Bodhisattva!
Starting today, she, Shao Cixin, believed in Wen Bodhisattva!
But the very next second, Wen Zhihan turned the conversation around, “However, I have one condition.”
Shao Cixin’s elated heart missed a beat.
Wen Zhihan raised her eyes, making eye contact with her. Her smile was as gentle as ever.
“Exchange is about fairness and mutuality. If you agree to my condition, then I can agree to your condition.”
“So, Cixin, do you want to hear my condition?”
