Didn’t Expect That, Did You?

Chapter 8 – Past

Chapter 8 – Past

Shao Cixin would never allow herself to become the “A” in the joke.

While she was a little vain,  it wasn’t to the point of narcissism. When she was in high school, because of her rebellious nature, Wen Zhihan wrote her name down several times.

Liang Xuefei dug out a small piece of matcha cake and sent it into her mouth.

She then put down the fork, wiped her mouth, and said: “I forgot, you were a little rebellious in high school.”

She and Shao Cixin have been in the same school since kindergarten, all the way until they parted ways in high school. Since the summer vacation of their third year of junior high school, Shao Cixin became the eldest miss of the Shao family. This actually helped instigate Shao Cixin’s rebellious nature in the first year of senior high school.

Shao Cixin held her face, her eyes were deep, and the corners of her mouth were faint and gentle: “It’s all in the past.”

She was not actually born into the wealthy Shao family.

Before the summer vacation of junior high school, she was a child of an ordinary family, without a father, and she depended on her single mother for life. Lu Lan was very affectionate to her, and Shao Cixin was also obedient and cute. Life was ordinary and simple – although there was no money, there was nothing wrong.

If it wasn’t for those classmates who excluded her, her life would be great.

However, because she didn’t have a father, there were always a few who were full of contempt for her – even more excessive, some would even spit the word “bastard” at her, and scold Lu Lan.

Shao Cixin was angry, she broke out and fought with people, and she held many grudges. Not only does she remember those little beasts, but she also remembers her “father”.

– Since he gave birth to her, why doesn’t he want her and her mother!?

Lu Lan tried to explain the situation to her, but the explanation was vague – always unwilling to tell her that her father was Shao Heng, the heir of the famous Shao family group. She only said that it was not that Shao Cixin’s father did not want them, but that Lu Lan did not want her father.

Shao Cixin was young and didn’t understand the twists and turns of the adult world. She stubbornly felt that it was her father who didn’t want them. The resentment in her heart made her hate this father that she had never met.

It was for this reason that, after she returned to the Shao family, she was utterly indifferent to Shao Heng for a long time.

Shao Heng did not blame her. On the contrary, he was full of guilt toward her. His love for her had no boundaries – if she wanted the stars, he’d give her the stars, and if she wanted the moon, he’d give her the moon. He would hold up the whole world for her if she let him.

But Shao Cixin still didn’t accept him. The grievances that she suffered were not so easy to let go of.

Shao Heng arranged for her to enter Shenglin High School, one of the best schools in Fengcheng. The environment of Shenglin was excellent, the school style was superb, the faculty was strong, and there were many rich children in Fengcheng.

Wen Zhihan was one of them.

Because of this resentment, coupled with her rebellious period, Shao Cixin began to take an unusual path in her first year of high school. She was afraid that if she got in trouble too many times, Lu Lan would get angry, so she started dancing on the edge of breaking school rules.

The school required uniforms, so she occasionally wore them, and occasionally didn’t.

The school did not allow wall climbing, so she climbed occasionally, and occasionally did not.

Then she was caught by Wen Zhihan.

The one who broke the school rules was a rich kid? That didn’t matter: there were rich children in the Disciplinary Committee, and they were absolutely responsible for that group.

The policy of using fire to fight fire had long been used by the school.

Shao Cixin looked at Wen Zhihan at that time, and even thought the Disciplinary Committee might have a slogan: “The eyes of the Disciplinary Committee are always on you, making your every rebellion fail.”

Otherwise, how could she be caught by Wen Zhihan every time she rebelled?!

But people become cowardly when they are repeatedly caught making mistakes, and Shao Cixin is no exception. She once tried to “bribe” Wen Zhihan with snacks, beauty, help with homework and other desperate measures.

But of course, it’s useless.

Wen Zhihan was a capable leader and was the face of the Student Union’s Disciplinary Committee. The school’s famous mixed-race child is beautiful, gentle, and honest. Because of her bribery, she almost gave her another strike.

Every strike was remembered, and parents were always called.

But Shao Cixin also knew that it was better to find Shao Heng than Lu Lan. After all, she was angry with Shao Heng and was able to get him to do what she wanted. Shao Heng always did as she wished: he did not send an assistant to come forward on his behalf – he came over in person every time, and he listened to the class teacher explain her “glorious deeds”.

Shao Heng was always calm, and expressed his apologies.

After returning home, Shao Heng always patted her on the head. He did not blame her for making him lose face, nor did he blame her for rebellion, he just said softly: “Don’t do anything that will hurt you.”

At that time, Shao Heng actually didn’t know how to be a good father. He had been absent from his daughter’s life for more than ten years. He knew that his daughter had resentment toward him and knew that his daughter did not like him. He felt guilty, confused, and unsure of himself.

Fortunately, Shao Cixin didn’t do any dangerous rebellious activities.

The father and daughter had a good understanding of each other. Neither of them told Lu Lan what had happened. But the truth could not be hidden, and Lu Lan eventually found out.

As a result, the mother and daughter had a heart-to-heart talk. She told Lu Lan about her grievances from childhood to adulthood, and Lu Lan told her everything honestly.

Shao Heng loved them, there was no doubt about this, but Shao Heng’s father did not like her, this ordinary daughter-in-law with no background. For this reason, he kept pressuring Shao Heng, asking him to divorce and remarry.

Shao Heng was unmoving. He insisted on being with her, and was willing to leave the Shao family and start from scratch for her. He had no regrets about his choice, nor would he compromise with his unreasonable father.

But Lu Lan was unwilling. She was afraid that after Shao Heng left the Shao family, Shao Heng’s father would use all kinds of means to make things difficult for him, making him helpless. She also didn’t want Shao Heng to bear all the pressure, and say nothing to her.

She didn’t want to be a burden.

She left, leaving only a divorce agreement, and she realized she was pregnant not long after she did. She hid in Fengcheng’s expanse and gave birth to Shao Cixin alone.

Later, Shao Heng took over the Shao family group and became an excellent leader. His father could no longer interfere with him. He never signed the divorce agreement, nor did he give up looking for Lu Lan, but he did not know that he had a daughter.

“Don’t blame your father for being absent from your past,” Lu Lan said to her at that time, holding her hand. “He loves you more than anyone else.”

Lu Lan said that when Shao Heng found out that he had this daughter, he cried for the first time. He said that he was happy, said that “Cixin” was a nice name, and said that he must give her a hug when he met her.

But when they met, they didn’t do anything.

Because Shao Cixin stood in place, looking at him with eyes like a stranger, full of caution and with even a little hatred.

So he didn’t do anything, he didn’t dare to do anything…

Shao Cixin only then realized that she had hurt Shao Heng deeply more than once. She didn’t even need to break the school rules, she just needed to take a step back, and her father would fall into deeper guilt and sleepless nights.

After this, the father and daughter finally made peace.

Shao Heng held her hand that day, pressed it against his forehead, and said to her, “Xinxin, I’m sorry.”

Four simple words, but she didn’t know why her heart hurt so much.

Her father loved her more than she thought, and he was more sorry than she thought.

From then on, she no longer wanted her parents to feel guilty about her, and she no longer wanted to hear that heart-breaking  “I’m sorry”.

So now she had to drag Wen Zhihan, getting her to play along with her, so that her parents would know that she was willing and happy about the marriage. She was grateful to Wen Zhihan for giving her this opportunity, and she was also grateful to Wen Zhihan for cooperating with her.

– But she didn’t rebel that much in high school!

She thought that she had rebelled a small amount… but she was nervous that this was only what she thought, and that she might have even done more things against the rules inadvertently that were caught by Wen Zhihan. After all, she didn’t break the rules that much, so she didn’t expect Wen Zhihan to write her name down so much it filled up an entire page! If it wasn’t for her really being caught by Wen Zhihan, she would have thought that Wen Zhihan was practicing her calligraphy!

She doesn’t think it was because of love.

She and Wen Zhihan were not even friends in high school, let alone classmates.

They didn’t have each other’s contact information, they didn’t even call each other’s names, they each went their own way after school, and they hadn’t seen each other since Wen Zhihan graduated from high school. Where did the opportunity for Wen Zhihan to like her come from?

Wen Zhihan was gentle and kind, but this was not a reason for Shao Chixin to be narcissistic.

She wasn’t a person of faith.

So she began to believe that she was really rebellious in her youth, rebellious enough that she didn’t want to ask Wen Zhihan to confirm…

– This is too embarrassing!

Liang Xuefei thought for a while, suddenly feeling it was funny.

“I didn’t expect that the member of the committee who remembered your name most viciously in high school is going to marry you now… Fate is really amazing…”

It’s unknown if the two of them, one of them breaking the school rules and the other remembering the other’s name, ever thought that there would be such a day.

“It’s quite wonderful.”

Shao Cixin took a sip at ease.

She then received a message from Wen Zhihan.

[President Wen] : Are you free after work?

Shao Cixin thought for a moment.

[Shao Cixin] : Yes, what’s up?

[President Wen]: Go pick out a ring

Shao Cixin realized that she was going to pick out a pretty ring and became interested.

[Shao Cixin]: I’ll do as you say, President Wen!

[Shao Cixin] : [Cute.JPG]

[President Wen]: Give me a call when you’re done with work and I’ll come to pick you up.

After sending the message, Shao Cixin put down her phone and started to examine her fingers.

She had fair skin, long and slender fingers, well-defined bones, and looked very pretty. She even had a group of fans who were obsessed with her hands.

Seeing this, Liang Xuefei felt puzzled: “What are you looking at? What do you want to buy again?”

Shao Cixin raised her eyebrows: “Yes, something that must be bought.

“Ugh, I feel like my hands look good no matter what style of ring I wear..~.”

Liang Xuefei: “…”

It was clear that she was genuinely happy about getting married and her recent mood was really good.

It couldn’t be denied that people really do become happier when they leave the scum behind.

After arranging her schedule, Wen Zhihan went out to discuss a project.

On the way back, Wen Zhihan and her assistant Guan Yan went to get a cup of coffee. After finishing their drinks, the two of them walked towards the parking garage while chatting about work.

Then they saw Shao Cixin’s agent Rong Ya and her assistant Xiao Sha.

Rong Ya looked impatient and seemed to be scolding Xiao Sha.

One of them was staring at the other, while the other had her head down. Neither of them noticed Wen Zhihan and Guan Yan.

Rong Ya said: “Your work attitude has been really problematic lately. Are you not interested in this anymore?”

She was scolding her subordinate.

Wen Zhihan didn’t mean to eavesdrop but just as she was about to continue walking to the parking spot with Guan Yan, she heard Xiao Sha say: “I’m not really interested anymore. The Shao family is finished, so she definitely can’t keep going…”

Wen Zhihan lightly stopped in her tracks.

Guan Yan also stopped.

As one of the people who knew about the marriage, Rong Ya couldn’t reveal anything before an official announcement was made by the Wen and Shao families. She just found it amusing: “So, you’ve been slacking off because of this? You’re not confident in the Shao family’s position anymore?”

“That’s right,” Xiao Sha thought of her own future and straightened her back as she said with more confidence, “She’s finished anyway, so what’s the point of me working so hard by her side? I’m just going to leave in the end.”

Rong Ya does not appreciate this work attitude.

She put her arms across her chest and displayed her authority: “I don’t know where your work ethic comes from, but when the monk hits the bell every day since you choose to be her assistant, even if it is only for an hour, you must do your job well.

“If you don’t want to do it, you can resign and leave directly, or let the company transfer you away. Instead, you’re dragging your feet, dragging down the progress of the entire team! Why should others pay the price for your messy ideas?!”

Xiao Sha was scared by her sternness, and her bottom line became a little weaker.

But she still wanted to leave.

She always felt that if the Shao family was finished, Shao Cixin’s destiny would definitely not be able to escape the cold. She can’t stay with an artist who has no future, since she desires a great future… Good birds choose their own trees to nest in, so she must go, she must leave!

Guan Yan looked in their direction and turned to look at Wen Zhihan: “President Wen?”

Shao Cixin is not only the eldest miss of the Shao family, but also the future Mrs. Wen of their family. It is really unfortunate that she has such a sloppy subordinate around her.

But, Wen Zhihan’s expression did not change at all, and she walked straight ahead.

“Let’s go, it’s time to go back.”
