Chapter 1742: Sword God and War God!

Chapter 1742: Sword God and War God!

Max and Nancy moved across the sky like two streaks of light, one silver-white and one faintly golden, cutting through the vast expanse that stretched between Starfall Haven and the direction of Witch God Valley.

Beneath them, the land of the Eternal Hourglass spread out like a strange and ancient world, with endless golden sands shifting in slow waves, broken ruins half-buried beneath the desert, and distant storms of distorted time twisting between the horizon and the sky.

Every now and then, Max could sense dangerous auras sleeping beneath the sand, but none of them rose to stop him, perhaps because his speed was too great, or perhaps because the killing intent lingering around him after wiping out thousands of demons had not fully faded yet.

Nancy flew slightly ahead of him, guiding the way with familiar ease, though her expression had been unusually quiet ever since they left the area outside Starfall Haven.

She had seen many strong geniuses in her life, and as someone who served beside Elrian, she was not ignorant of the hidden monsters taking part in the Cosmic Ascension Conference, but what Max had done outside the city gates still remained in her mind like a scene carved by lightning.

He had not simply defeated Karo and Munro. He had shifted the battlefield itself, dragged thousands of demons into a a different domain, and slaughtered them with an inheritance technique that used the fifth level concept of space.

That kind of power was not something ordinary geniuses possessed, and the more Nancy thought about it, the more she understood why Elrian had been so certain that Max was connected to something far larger than a simple human bloodline.

There was also the bloodline pressure that caused her to feel like she stood become some elder level figure from her race or even worst. All this made her feel that Max wasn’t as simple as he seemed on the surface.

After flying in silence for some time, Nancy finally turned her head slightly and looked at Max.

“Max,” she said.

Max glanced at her without slowing down. “What?”

Nancy hesitated for a moment, as if she was thinking about whether this was the right time to ask, but in the end, she still spoke.

“Do you want to inherit the War God legacy and become the War God of this generation?”

Max’s expression shifted instantly.

For once, he actually looked confused.

He stared at Nancy for a moment, then frowned slightly. “What?”

Nancy looked at him seriously. “The War God legacy.”

Max’s brows drew together even more. “What are you talking about?”

Nancy seemed slightly surprised by his reaction. “You do not know?”

“Know what?” Max asked, his confusion becoming more obvious. “Why are you suddenly asking me whether I want to become some War God? Is this related to the War God Palace or something?”

Nancy’s eyes flashed with realization.

“So you really do not know,” she murmured.

Max narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked at Nancy, and although his speed did not slow, the confusion in his expression became much clearer than before.

“Nancy, if you are going to bring up something strange in the middle of the journey, then explain it properly.”

Nancy slowed down a little, though she still continued flying toward the direction of Witch God Valley, and after glancing at Max with a faintly helpless expression, she said, “For a human, you sure are an ignorant one.”

Max raised an eyebrow.

Nancy ignored his look and continued, “Every time the Cosmic Ascension Conference is held, there are two titles that shine brighter than almost everything else. One is the Sword God, and the other is the War God. According to the old records, somewhere inside the world of the conference, there exist two ancient legacies, the legacy of the Sword God and the legacy of the War God.”

Max listened silently.

The wind rushed past them, the golden sands of the Eternal Hourglass flowed beneath their feet like a vast sea, and the distant aura of Witch God Valley grew heavier with every passing moment, but Max’s attention was now partly focused on Nancy’s words.

He had heard of the War God Palace and the Sword God Palace before, but he had never cared enough to investigate their origin in detail. In his mind, they were simply two powerful forces among the many ancient powers of the Divine Realm.

Nancy continued, “Whoever inherits the Sword God legacy during the Cosmic Ascension Conference will be recognized as the Sword God of that generation. It is not just an empty title. Once that happens, the Sword God Palace will acknowledge that person, support them fully, and even declare them as their Saint. The title itself gives status, protection, resources, and influence that most geniuses can only dream of obtaining.”

Max’s eyes moved slightly.

Nancy glanced at him and added, “The same is true for the War God legacy. Whoever inherits it becomes the War God of that generation and gains the full support of the War God Palace. They will also be given the Saint title of the War God Palace, which means that even many powerful forces would have to think twice before touching them openly.”

Max was silent for a moment before saying, “So the Sword God Palace and War God Palace were created because of these legacies?”

Nancy nodded. “Yes. Those two forces rose because of the ancient Sword God and War God legacies, and even now, their prestige is closely tied to them. Every generation, they send their strongest young geniuses into the Cosmic Ascension Conference to claim those legacies again, because if an outsider inherits one of them, then the palace connected to that legacy has no choice but to acknowledge that outsider.”

Her expression turned slightly serious.

“Because of that, countless geniuses fight for the Sword God and War God legacies. Some want the power. Some want the title. Some want the backing of the two palaces. Some simply want to prove that their talent is greater than the descendants trained by those ancient forces. But more often than not, the Sword God legacy is taken by a genius from the Sword God Palace, and the War God legacy is taken by someone from the War God Palace.”

Max looked ahead calmly. “That sounds expected. If they were created around those legacies, they should know more about them than anyone else.”
