Chapter 1770 1770: Origin of Origin
Chapter 1770 1770: Origin of Origin
"Don't kill me! Please don't kill me!" Architect showed no spine at all and begged.
"Reason?" Varian crossed his arms.
"This origin is just a fragment! An incomplete copy of the real one!" Architect blurted out his deepest secret. "That universe is at a much higher level. I modeled our universe after it.
Since all I have is a fragment, I made only three avenues and nine paths. But that universe has…unlimited paths!
It's a different, higher level of power system!
I can take you there! You can have that origin! The full origin! You will reach unimaginable levels of power!"
Varian's eyes widened.
Even though he was expecting a multiverse, this was a big surprise.
"And the void!" Architect pointed to the emptiness around them. "This is the Great Sea of Void, the Primal Chaos. Once you're away from your universe, you can't use the powers belonging to your universe.
You have to master the powers belonging to the void. But once you learn this power, you can convert that into the power of any universe you're residing in!"
Varian shook his head. "Not really interested. I want to spend a long time with my family before venturing out. When the time comes, I will figure this stuff out myself."
Architect's expression collapsed. "Then I will spend the origin shard I have with me. The origin of the universe will remain incomplete. No matter what you do, you can't stop its destruction!"
Varian narrowed his eyes.
A credible threat.
Architect always possessed this piece. If that went missing, the the whole universe would be fated to die. Hortus could delay it at best, not stop it.
"Don't think you can kill me and grab it. I've linked it to my very being. Try it once and the origin shard is gone forever!" Architect threatened.
Seeing Varian's contemplative expression, he softened his tone. "I can even help you master the origin you have.
Trust me, I stole only a fragment but even that proved too much.
I was badly injured and couldn't handle it. I created the universe so that its power would be diverted towards creation and spare me from destruction.
Even then, I fell asleep for so, so long."
Varian asked. "What was even your plan?"
"After I am fully healed, I will be be at my full strength, ugh, peak of rank 3 in your words.
The universe will be destroyed and the origin will be affected during that period.
I will use that chance to fuse my shard with the fragment and gain control over it, reaching the higher rank.
Then, I can fight against even the strongest of that universe."
Varian nodded.
Architect believed Varian was scared and immediately started his exorbitant demands. "As long as you give me half of origin, I will help you."
Varian laughed. This guy was probably still seeing him as a 'pathetic creation'.
'Status'
[Life & Death Avenue: 3000/3000
Space & Time Avenue: 3000/3000
Order & Chaos Avenue: 3000/3000]
Varian could feel something beyond this peak of rank 3. But there was a bottleneck.
And that bottleneck existed because a piece of origin was missing. That piece was with Architect, in the form of Harmony path.
'I did heal origin before, but the healing was putting the pieces back in place. Now, a piece is missing.'
Varian pondered and a thought struck.
'Yes, harmony path is missing from the origin. But the concept of harmony itself is present in the universe or many things wouldn't be possible at all.
Even though Architect did remove it from the origin, the concept of harmony didn't vanish from the universe.
But anything in the universe has its roots in origin.
Wait…when I lost Logos, I still had multiple paths because my origin was creating slivers at a smaller scale.
Is the universal origin also creating harmony at a smaller scale?'
Varian focused on the cosmic origin. It's indeed completely different from his personal origin. It had a type of power he couldn't quite identify and was different from all the divine paths.
Even at the peak of rank 3, he couldn't really see its mysteries. Since he didn't really understand much about it, creating a shard of origin was out of question, at least for now.
But Varian soon identified the fragment of cosmic origin that's responsible for the concept of harmony in the universe.
It's as he suspected. Just like how his origin produced slivers, this fragment also produced harmony.
Varian had full authority over this origin and used it to pushed the origin to its limit, letting it focus on generating harmony.
Sure, he couldn't create a shard of origin. But since this origin was a fragment anyway, there should be no problem if it reconfigured itself, filling its own gaps!
The origin hummed and slightly shrunk.
It shaved itself off a little and used that to patch the hole caused by the missing harmony path.
At the same time, Varian experienced a fundamental shift.
[Rank 4: ???]
Focusing back on the outside, he noticed Architect's impatient face.
"Alright, you can go now." Varian raised his fingers to snap and the origin thief's face paled.
"No, no, no! If you kill me, the universe will be destroyed."
"I don't care."
"They will come!" He shouted in a desperate attempt. "I wasn't the only thief. There were three. They will sense what happened one day and will come here! You will die a horrible death!"
"Oh, since they'll come anyway and I'll die anyway, might as well kill you now, don't you think?" Varian chuckled.
Architect wanted to slap himself for those words. "Please, I am more useful to you alive than dead. I know about the multiverse. Deep secrets that you can't even imagine."
Snap!
Architect was erased out of existence and as he promised, the origin piece vanished.
Varian quickly grabbed whatever remained of him and conducted a search.
He was able to briefly get the life story of Architect.
He's a powerhouse in his own universe who reached its ceiling. All his life, he had been winning, winning and winning.
The only time he was truly challenged was from a young man who rose from humble beginnings.
That young man was brilliant, his journey was filled with adventures and growth. But at some point, with no reason at all, his journey fell apart.
His growth faltered and he seemed to have changed. That deviation led to his defeat at the hand of 'Architect'.
With the only man who could challenge him dead, Architect had all the universe to himself and finally broke out.
"The bad guy also wins, huh." Varian shook his head. "Life is not a fairytale."
He's now aware that the world out there was full of dangers, with treacherous beings like Architect.
[This great event needs an addressing of suitable stature. The universe awaits your grand gesture for—] Logos said.
"Speak English."
(She's saying she wants a party!)
Varian laughed. "We'll have the grandest party in the history of the universe!"
He turned to Hortus, the 'universe' and was about to leave when he felt an arrival from the distance.
His face turned solemn and he prepared to strike.
"Huh?"
It was a letter.
