Dragon Monarch System

Chapter 972:- Suspected Spies

Chapter 972: Chapter 972:- Suspected Spies

Savannahclaw City,

Elio’s (Spy) Pov____

"Elio, start packing today’s Menu. In an hour, we have to head out to deliver food to the Guards." It has been two weeks since Elio started working at the restaurant.

"I am already working on it." The young man in his 20s shouted back from the kitchen. He wasn’t a chef. Rather, someone is hired to help the chef around the kitchen. The most important part of his job was that he and another chef regularly delivered three meals a day to the guards who constantly protect the City from the fortress or Walls.

Every soldier had their preference. The restaurant owner took notes on everyone’s likes and dislikes and compiled a detailed notebook of each guard’s preferences.

Not every guard ate from restuarant. Some used their break time to personally head to their favourite spots to eat. Some lived close to the fortress with their families and preferred to return home to eat with them. While some bought packed lunches and dinners when coming to work. But their restaurant was by far the biggest supplier of the guards’ daily meals.

Almost in every City, this was the case. To restaurant owners, getting to feed a few hundred guards at once was already very profitable for them. The guards were far richer than ordinary folks, and they did not shy away from spending big on their food. And as cultivators, their food consumption was way higher. So feeding a few hundred guards was equivalent to feeding over a thousand people.

The payment was never delayed. Some paid as a group, while some paid individually. But there was none that kept their payment due. In short, gaining the trust of the guards of the Fortress and delivering three-course meals a day was a very profitable business.

"Did you hear that the Dragonians who were previously captured returned a few days ago?" Hearing this, Elio froze. His expression became stiff and unnatural for a few seconds before he quickly composed himself.

The chef working with him did not notice anything as he was busy making a few more final dishes for the Dragonians, who were said to resume their duty today.

With a forced smile, Elio looked at the chef with whom he had been working for the last two weeks or more.

"When did they return? Why haven’t I seen them?"

Elio wasn’t an ordinary man. His full name was Elio Seymour. Seymour was a noble family, and Elio was next in line to be the Viscount after his dad.

"The Emperor gave them a few days’ break to recover and spent time with their family or loved ones."

"As for what they did after the Dragonians were captured, no one knows. Not even the higher ups knows." Hearing this, Elio fell into deep thought. He knew that he was involved in this. He had provided very valuable information to the man who freed him from slavery.

Disaster struck the Kingdom that he was a part of.

The King waged a war that Elio, to this day, felt was a very stupid move against the Istarin Empire, known as the Graveyard of Empires.

Within a day or two, the entire Kingdom fell and became a territory of the Istarin Empire.

Change in power and becoming a part of another Empire meant that the power structure of the entire Kingdom was about to change. And that happened very quickly. Within a day or two, they were given the option to choose to continue serving the Istarin Empire, but with a soul-binding contract. They had to follow certain rules and guidelines.

And most importantly, corruption and tyranny were absolutely not allowed.

Lord Seymour accepted the offer and began serving the Dragon Monarch, while retaining their power and gaining additional resources from the Empire. But one thing they overlooked, out of habit, was that the Empire took corruption and Tyranny against its citizens very seriously.

Within the first month, the Shadow Guards found out about their wrongdoings, including the horrible things that they had done in the past and continued doing.

The whole family was stripped of power.

Lord Seymour and his son and the rest of the family were stripped of their cultivation. While Seymour was sentenced to 100 years in jail for corruption and abuse of power, the rest of the power structure wasn’t innocent either. As a result, Elio and his family were forced to work at the mines for 15 years.

But around a few months back, a certain someone from another Empire visited the mine under disguise.

By bribing a few guards of the mines, Elio was freed.

Elio wanted to free his family as well, but he was told to work as a spy for that man. His job was to get a new identity and do something to get close to the guards who work at the fortress of Savannahclaw City.

"Elio.....!!"

"Eli...!!"

It was then that Elio snapped out of his thoughts.

"What happened chef?"

"What happened? You looked spaced out. Did something happen?" The chef had a good impression of this kid. He was nice, humble, and very hard-working. He wanted to look after the Kid and make sure that he worked in a comfortable environment.

"Nothing! I am fine." Elio said with a fake smile.

Tap.....!!!

Tap.....!!!

Tappp....!!!

Hearing the sound of multiple footsteps, Chef and Elio looked at the entrance of the kitchen. A Dragonian, accompanied by a few guards, walked into the kitchen.

Seeing them, Elio’s expression stiffened.

He immediately turned around and tried to flee.

But how can he who had become a mortal escape from the hands of cultivators?

A few hands quickly pinned Elio to the ground.

"Sir, I think there is some misunderstanding." The Chef tried to speak for Elio as he had a good impression of the Kid.

At that time, the restaurant owner ran into the Kitchen with a pale face. He was extremely tense because this could ruin his business and cut its overall profit by almost 80%.

"Silence!" The Dragonian from the Shadow Guard replied in a very cold tone.

"Sir, what happened?" The owner tried to ask what had happened.

The Dragonian looked at the owner and explained.

"This whole restaurant is under investigation. We have evidence that your own staff, including you, may have been leaking secret information about the Fortress guards." Hearing this, the owner’s face turned pale.

"Gather everyone and close the restaurant." The guards moved quickly, and within minutes, the entire restaurant was empty of customers, and all staff stood by the counter with frightened, tense faces.

"As for this man, I will take him back to the Capital. His Majesty wants to see his face."

"I will leave everything to you." The Second in charge of the soldiers nodded at the Dragonian.

Scene Change______

A similar thing was happening around other corners of the City.

To keep the fortress clean and the weapons maintained, a cleaning company was hired through the guild.

The Shadow Guards went through every outsider’s profile and captured all the suspects. As for the rest, they were put under investigation and told not to leave the City under any circumstances.

Among all the cleaners, a middle-aged man named Leonardo

was also captured.

That same afternoon, at the prison of the Istarin Empire, more than twenty suspects were tied to steel chairs with special chains.

Tap.....!!!

Tap.....!!!

Tappp....!!!

"Open the door!" The Captain of the Shadow Guard, Nathan, coldly ordered the Prison guards.

The guards did not dare to waste a second, especially in the presence of the Grand Emperor.

As Aditya walked in, every suspect looked at him. Aditya noticed many expressions. He looked at everyone before his gaze stopped on Elio and Leonardo, who were tied next to each other.

"They are ones!" Nathan, who stood by his side, whispered into his ear.

"Our investigation shows that these two were former nobles who were punished to work at the mines for 15 years."

"They have changed their names and identities to work in positions that would allow them to get close to the Fortress on a regular basis. One of them even tried to flee when my men went to capture him." Aditya just nodded without changing any expression.

"What about others?"

"The remaining 18 come from questionable backgrounds that put them on our suspect list."

"The guy with red hair recently bought one acre of farming land. The source of his money is unknown. And his job is weapon cleaner."

Not a single one was innocent.

The Shadow Guard was extremely proficient.

The moment Aditya returned, the whole resource of the Shadow Guard was used to find and capture the spies in Savannahclaw City. Just a day was more than enough to capture 20 suspects.

"Your Majesty, how do you want to approach this?" Since Aditya arrived, he had a plan.

Normally, the captured spies would be subjected to various levels of torture. Unless the spy was suspected of doing something big and very bold, the torture level wasn’t that bad. Those who are suspected of seriously harming the masses or are planned to do so are subjected to inhumane torture.

Aditya pointed his finger at Elio.

"I want his limbs to be severed in a slow and painful manner. After each limb is severed, pour salt into their wounds." Just hearing these bone-chilling words, the faces of everyone turned extremely pale.

Really, thank you very much to all those who sent support with valuable golden tickets and gifts. I hope we can keep it up!!!

I deeply apologise for another long absence. But I had to go to another country (Saudi Arabia) by bus. It was a brutal journey. The constant AC and cold weather worsened my health to the point that I had a fever and a cough throughout the journey.
