Chapter 2879: Terra
Chapter 2879: Terra
Emery thought about leaving Terra City immediately and return to Dawnstar to deal with the many matters waiting for him there.
Yet despite those pressing concerns, he knew he could not neglect Terra City.
Standing quietly before the palace, Emery slowly lifted his gaze toward the massive statue that stood on the hill beside it. His senior, Izta.
For a long moment, Emery remained silent as memories resurfaced.
Lowering his head slightly, Emery spoke quietly to the statue.
"I will make you proud."
With that vow lingering in his thoughts, Emery began walking through the city.
Over the past two decades, Terra City had transformed beyond what he had originally imagined. The city had initially been designed with only one purpose in mind—to serve as a fortified faction base capable of supporting the growing military forces loyal to Earth’s faction. However, what had once been a modest settlement had now grown into a thriving urban center.
The residential and commercial districts on the eastern side of the city had expanded nearly fivefold, forming entire neighborhoods filled with bustling markets, merchant halls, residential towers, and entertainment establishments. The city’s population had already surpassed ten million citizens, with roughly twenty percent of them being migrants from the Alvanic subterranean worldl
Even so, by the standards of the Magus Alliance, Terra City was still considered relatively small.
What the city lacked in size, however, it made up for in stability and opportunity.
Three newly opened mining complexes had been established during Emery’s absence, extracting valuable rare minerals from the mountain ranges. These mines had quickly become the city’s primary economic engine, providing employment for thousands while supplying strategic resources to the Alliance.
As a result, Terra City had become largely self-sufficient, capable of sustaining both its civilian population and its growing military presence.
That military strength had expanded significantly as well.
The city now maintained ten divisions, nearly ten thousand trained fighters stood ready to defend the city.
Beyond those standard divisions, Terra City had also developed five special units composed entirely of magus, elite squads specifically trained for high-risk missions.
All these forces rotated regularly between guarding the city, conducting training exercises, performing missions for the Magus Alliance, and securing nearby sectors.
When Emery finally returned to the palace courtyard, several of the city’s strongest defenders had already gathered to greet him.
Aside from the five Terra Sisters, who were led by Rosia, four other notable grand magus figures now served as the city’s primary combat leaders.
The first was Grand Magus Fantasme, a wolf-bloodline cultivator permanently assigned by the Silvermane clan.
The second and third were dragon-bloodline grand magus sent from Zodiac City. One of them was a younger cultivator who had recently entered the one-cosmos realm, while the other was a veteran warrior who had already reached the second cosmos, his aura steady and formidable.
The final figure was someone Emery recognized.
Gunwoo.
The spear-wielding general from the Alvanic Kingdom, who shows fierce performance during the Terra Tournament. Seeing him now standing among the city’s strongest fighters was clear proof of the remarkable potential possessed by the Alvanic people.
The four stood confidently before Emery in the courtyard.
Among them, the dragon-bloodline warriors appeared especially eager.
The older dragon halfblood stepped forward and bowed respectfully.
"My name is Hedwig," he said. "Among my people I am known as the Stoneclaw Dragon."
There was genuine curiosity in his voice as he continued.
"Is it true that you have been selected as a Beast Union Elite?"
Emery raised an eyebrow slightly.
Hedwig soon explained that he had heard about it from a friend stationed in Golden City, someone who possessed access to the Virtual Palace.
"Yes," Emery admitted calmly.
Despite his composed response, the conversation stirred a faint discomfort in his thoughts. Hedwig himself had already reached the two-cosmos realm, yet he still lacked access to the Virtual Palace. Emery could not help but feel that the system carried an unspoken discrimination toward halfblood cultivators.
Hedwig, however, appeared delighted by the confirmation.
"In that case, Lord Emery," he said eagerly, "I would be honored to have a match with you."
The request was reasonable, and a friendly sparring session would help him better understand the current strength of Terra City’s defenders.
He nodded in agreement.
However, just as preparations for the sparring match began, a sudden commotion erupted near the palace entrance.
Rosia turned sharply toward one of the approaching guards.
"What happened?" she demanded.
"My lady," the soldier replied urgently, "there is trouble at the portal gate!"
At first, the situation did not seem particularly serious. Difficult visitors occasionally appeared at Terra City.
But Emery’s expression suddenly shifted.
His divine sense had already detected something unusual.
A mysterious presence was moving at extraordinary speed, burst through the city’s portal zone and crossed the distance to the palace courtyard almost instantly.
The man appeared behind them without warning.
He was tall and slender, wrapped in a dark green cloak that fluttered slightly in the wind. A smooth white mask concealed his entire face.
At first glance, the aura he revealed seemed weak—barely at the Magus Realm.
Yet the speed of his movement told a completely different story.
Emery knew the truth
This man was a Grand Magus cultivator.
And a powerful one.
The younger dragon-bloodline grand magus reacted immediately, stepping forward as his spear pointed directly at the intruder.
"How dare you intrude this place!!"
The masked man tilted his head slightly.
"Hmmm," he remarked casually. "Such an arrogant young dragon."
The provocation was enough to trigger an immediate response.
The dragon halfblood lunged forward, his spear slicing through the air as cosmic energy erupted from the weapon and pierced the wind with tremendous force.
Yet the masked figure moved with unnatural grace.
His body shifted lightly, following the flow of the air itself, and with a single step he slipped past the attack as though carried by the wind. In the next instant he had already appeared behind the young dragon, raising his gloves covered palm to strike.
But Gunwoo intervened.
The Alvanic warrior’s spear flashed forward with explosive power, forcing the masked man to withdraw his attack and evade once again.
For a brief moment, the courtyard filled with blinding motion.
Gunwoo and the dragon halfblood attacked together with impressive coordination, their strikes covering one another’s openings as one targeted high while the other aimed low.
The masked man sighed softly.
Then he exhaled.
The breath itself seemed to disturb the surrounding air.
Both grand magus staggered slightly as the invisible force disrupted their rhythm.
In that instant, the masked man’s hands moved.
Two palm strikes flowed forward like drifting clouds.
Gunwoo and the dragon warrior were thrown backward violently.
Blood burst from their mouths as both men collapsed to their knees.
The entire exchange had lasted only seconds. Yet two grand magus had already been defeated.
They attempted to rise again, determination burning in their eyes.
But Emery raised his hand.
"Stop."
The command halted them immediately.
Stepping forward, Emery fixed his gaze on the masked stranger.
"Who are you," he asked calmly, "and why are you here?"
The masked man studied him carefully before finally speaking.
"I was sent here to look for Emery Ambrose."
He paused briefly.
""Are you him?"
