Chapter 1701: Frenzied Flame

In the Hollow Lands, monsters ventured into the Pit almost always with a single goal: to find the Frenzied Shard and consume it to obtain the Hollow Mark.

This was a necessary step if a monster wished to advance further in the hierarchy at the pillars.

However, the Frenzied Shards were not a resource intended exclusively for monsters. The Phantoms could consume shards as well, though there was usually no particular reason for them to do so.

The K4-Phantom rarely found itself in the Hollow Lands, let alone ventured into the Pit in search of the Frenzied Shard.

Either way, if Adam wanted to leave the Hollow Lands and absorb the Blood of God, he had to take part in the battle at the Hail Passage, and for that, he needed a portion of the Frenzied Shard in his aura.

Step. Step. Step.

Adam approached the Frenzied Shard, while the massive stone continued to tremble and practically cry out for help. But no one would come here. He was alone.

Even though Adam had defeated the Dark Knight, he didn’t act confidently. He knew that many monsters couldn’t withstand the power of the Frenzied Shard, some went crazy, others failed, and only a few succeeded.

But Adam wasn’t worried.

Tap.

He placed his palm on the Frenzied Shard as it roared at full power.

Streams of amber flame surged in all directions, causing Adam’s hair to billow.

"Damn it!" Loargh clenched his teeth, shielding his face with his hand.

Vyora held onto his shoulder, watching the scene unfold through her sleeve.

Sarka tried to stay put to show just how strong she was, but after a moment, she gave up and created a barrier in front of herself from the remaining drops of energy she had left.

The flames affected Adam the most, since he was standing right in front of the Frenzied Shard.

He didn’t resist, because he already understood everything.

’Kaerno said that many fail, but is it really that hard? You don’t need to suppress the Frenzied Shard or destroy it if you want its power. Instead, you must do something else.’

Tremble.

A tremor ran through Adam’s body as his aura burst forth.

His goal wasn’t to put pressure on the Frenzied Shard, but to show the power he possessed.

Basically, what Adam was trying to do was show that there was no point in the Frenzied Shard resisting and that it could fully trust Adam’s power.

’Despite their reputation, the Frenzied Shards are like cornered beasts. They fear and respect power, and more than anything else, they want someone stronger to take their problems upon themselves.’

"Agh?" Loargh blinked several times in disbelief.

He and the others watched as the Frenzied Flame grew weaker. The fire currents returned to the Frenzied Shard as its energy condensed into a single powerful orb.

Perhaps, if the Frenzied Shard hadn’t seen Adam defeat the Dark Knight, everything would have gone as Adam intended.

But the Frenzied Shard feared Adam too much. He was a Phantom, and the Frenzied Shard didn’t know what to expect.

Thus, it chose to direct all its power into one final strike.

Tremble! Tremble! Tremble!

Adam’s eyes widened as a bright light blinded him.

A trembling amber ray, as dense as plasma, struck Adam’s chest.

This energy was not directed at his physical body. Adam would suffer no wounds, not even a slight scratch, but the amber flame moved straight toward his inner space.

Unfortunately for the Frenzied Shard, this was the worst decision for it, and at the same time, the best for Adam.

He blinked as, in the next moment, he saw his Evolution Tree before him.

"What the hell?"

Instead of the usual darkness, the amber flame appeared in the far reaches of his inner space. The fire, surging aggressively like a wild beast, was heading straight for his Evolution Tree.

Adam hadn’t expected this at all. He was certain that the method he had chosen was correct, and neither Kaerno nor anyone else had warned him that the Frenzied Shard might attack his Evolution Tree.

Before he could react, the Frenzied Shard closed in on the Evolution Tree, beginning to burn its roots.

True, the Evolution Tree possessed immense power and couldn’t fall so quickly, but even in the first few seconds, Adam felt intense pain.

This meant that the Frenzied Shard’s attack was effective and working.

"Shit! Shit! Shit! Wasn’t I supposed to just absorb its power? Why did it go into my inner space?!"

Adam’s eyes darted from side to side in search of a solution. He had to somehow stop the frenzied flame. Otherwise, the Evolution Tree would be seriously damaged.

At the same moment, as if something finally worthy of its attention had occurred, the blood bubble surrounding Adam’s Nexus and the center of his Evolution Tree began to tremble.

The blood currents moving inside the bubble accelerated and burst outward. Each blood current headed toward the amber flame, burning the Evolution Tree.

The sudden attack of the Frenzied Shard turned into a confrontation between two opposing forces within Adam’s inner space.

However, one of these forces had a clear advantage.

SPLASH!

The magnificent blood crashed into the frenzied flame, absorbing each current with virtually no resistance.

Sure, the frenzied flame tried to resist, but these were merely pitiful attempts against the blood of Queen Elisa herself.

"Huh..."

Adam, as an outside observer, stood aside and watched as the streams of blood engulfed the frenzied flame, one after another, and returned into the bubble.

When not a single spark remained of the frenzied flame, and the last stream returned to its place, the bubble trembled again.

Beyond Adam’s control, a bright light burst forth from the bubble, dispelling the darkness of his inner space, as each blood flow was enveloped by the amber flame wandering along its edges and imbuing it with power.
