Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1922: Rifts and Sun

Chapter 1922: Rifts and Sun

The Befallen Crown wanted to get rid of Adam, which meant they had to kill him. But if possible, they would have preferred to capture him alive.

Initially, that was exactly what the Befallen Crown intended to do. Still, when they realized that Adam wasn’t just a talented Phantom, but one of the leading candidates to become the next Second Rank Phantom, their stance changed.

But Midgar knew that if he brought Adam Vinter to the Befallen Crown alive, his reward would be far greater than if he simply killed him.

He knew how strong Adam was, but the difference in their levels was too great.

“You know, if you were to become a Second Rank Phantom, I wouldn’t stand a chance against you.”

Midgar’s voice rang out as a stream of blood rushed between them.

“I’m afraid of the power you’ll possess by then. That’s exactly why your path will end today.”

Tap.

Before Adam could recover from his severe wound, Midgar placed his palm on Adam’s chest.

“Don’t blame me. You became too strong too quickly. A flame that burns too brightly always goes out faster than the rest.”

Tremble!

Midgar’s aura trembled as the gray energy flows surged toward Adam, enveloping him like dense, grim clouds.

‘No!’ Adam cried out inwardly. ‘I have to run!’

He didn’t know what was happening, but he tried to break free from the energy flows. Yet the clouds bound his arms tightly like chains, not allowing him even to buckle.

All Midgar needed was a single touch to Adam’s chest. He did so immediately after stunning Adam with his speed and strength, inflicting a serious wound on him.

However, Midgar had calculated it all.

“He’s lost a lot of blood, but that’s not enough to defeat him. But now he’s weak enough that he can’t break out of the cage.”

“GRH!” Adam clenched his teeth, unleashing his energy.

He channeled all his strength into shattering the gray clouds, but Midgar’s ability completely suppressed his aura.

“If you wanted to escape, you should have done it sooner. Now, you’ve lost your only chance.”

Midgar stepped forward as his calm expression vanished, momentarily revealing his true emotions.

“What the…”

Midgar’s smug smirk and the greed in his eyes were reflected in Adam’s gaze.

“Who would have thought that, of all those who set out to hunt you down, I’d be the one to catch you? Hahaha! Today is definitely my day!”

Crack!

Suddenly, cracks spread across the ground, forcing Adam and Midgar to look down.

Light poured out through the cracks, and soon a pillar of golden light burst forth, with Adam standing right at its center.

Midgar’s eyes widened as he jerked backward, summoning the gray flows to protect himself.

The beam of light shot out from the pillar in all directions, burning away fragments of Midgar’s cloud, but it wasn’t enough to harm him.

Tap.

At that very moment, a figure appeared behind Adam, touching his shoulder.

Adam spun around abruptly, only to see Kalyso. A trickle of blood ran from the corner of his mouth, but his face bore the same bright smile as before.

“You know, I’m taking a risk by helping you,” Kalyso said as a wave of light ran down his arm, heading toward Adam. “It looks like you’ve found something important through the Vibrating Stone, so… I advise you to take it right now.”

In the next moment, the bright light burst forth, shattering the grim clouds that bound Adam like shackles.

“Go ahead!” Kalyso exclaimed, waving his hand. “I’ll hold this bastard off! And you’ll owe me one, Adam!”

Adam didn’t have time to ask why Kalyso was doing this or what was even going on here.

He understood only one thing – Kalyso was right.

‘No one will help us, and there’s no one else here but the two of us. If we want to defeat a Viscount, I have to get stronger. This is our only chance!’

It took Adam less than a second to think it all through and make a decision as he confidently stepped forward, turning toward the north.

After Midgar’s appearance, nothing else mattered. He and Kalyso had to do everything in their power to survive.

Crack!

Dark wings spread across Adam’s back as he channeled his energy toward the amber clusters.

“Do you think I’ll let you get away?!” Midgar exclaimed, thrusting his arm forward.

At the same moment, his energy took the form of a gray dragon’s head, poised to devour Adam in the next instant.

Thud.

Kalyso stomped his foot on the ground as a blade of condensed light shot forward in a golden flash. It severed the dragon’s head, halting Midgar’s attack at the last moment.

Tremble.

Adam’s wings trembled as his form turned into a blur.

Even though Midgar was significantly stronger, there was nothing he could do at that moment. All he could do was watch as Adam flew away in an amber flash.

“No!” Midgar cried out, preparing to pursue Adam.

With a bright light, Kalyso appeared before him. His fist was brimming with energy, ready to strike Midgar with all its might.

“Maybe I alone can’t defeat a Viscount, but my two suns can hold him off for a while!” Kalyso’s smile widened as the golden light engulfed them both.

Tremble! Tremble! Tremble!

In the distance, at the Fallen Amber Sun, a tremor shook the ground.

Adam knew what the source was, but there was nothing he could do about it. He had to keep moving forward.

“Damn it!” Adam cursed as he sped up. “What is that fool doing? What chance does he stand against the Viscount?!”

‘You’re thinking about the wrong thing.’ The Silver Weaver’s voice echoed in his head.

Adam nodded deeply, biting his lip almost to the point of bleeding.

“I know. But I don’t even know exactly what the Vibrating Stone was pointing to! We’re running out of time!”

‘Come on, Adam, just trust your instincts. You must be somewhere close already. You know it yourself.’

At that very moment, Adam’s gaze fell to the ground beneath him.

It was a simple rocky plain, except for one detail, there were numerous rifts filled with water that led straight to the Dark Field.
