Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1927: The Path to the Surface and the Water Current

Chapter 1927: The Path to the Surface and the Water Current

Reaching the Grand Abyss and entering the Dark Field was difficult, but getting out of there was even harder.

The monsters inhabiting the Dark Field were too dangerous even for most Ascended Lords.

Strange as it may seem, if Adam hadn’t died a few minutes after entering the Dark Field, the monster he encountered would have disposed of him long ago.

To some extent, Adam survived only because he died at just the right moment.

Now, Adam had finally found the Bottomless Void, or, more precisely, he found himself in the right place and situation to finally gain access to that power.

But he was still at the bottom of the Dark Field.

He had to get out of there as soon as possible, and the pillar of light leading straight to the surface was his best chance.

Midgar’s attack awaited Adam. The gray dragon was prowling right beneath the rift, just in case Adam somehow survived and decided to return.

Midgar knew the chance of that was less than 1%, but he had to be prepared for anything. His future at the Befallen Crown depended on it.

Well, now, it depended on just his future.

Whooooosh!

The gray dragon charged straight toward Adam at full speed, and not even the light from Adam’s path could harm it. Midgar had poured a great deal of energy into the dark barrier to protect his attack, and he had succeeded.

Ripples spread across the water as blue threads appeared amid the darkness, a new type of thread that had only just become available to Adam.

Adam wasn’t prepared for this power. He didn’t know he would gain it or that he already possessed it. It simply happened, and he went with the flow, now guided solely by his will.

“Blue threads…” Adam muttered as the gray dragon drew near. “Loneliness and silence… Yes, this is definitely the right light, and nothing should stand in its way!”

“RROOOOH!!!”

The dragon opened its jaws, preparing to tear Adam to pieces. It was a Viscount’s attack, brimming with his energy, so the dragon saw no threat in a few blue threads.

Either way, nothing would have changed the outcome.

The blue threads trembled and suddenly wrapped themselves around the gray dragon, stopping it right in front of Adam.

Another fraction of a second, and the dragon’s jaws would have devoured Adam, but that was not meant to happen.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

The gray dragon struggled. It tried to break free from the blue threads and reach Adam, but it couldn’t even budge.

“Didn’t you hear me?” Adam looked straight at the dragon. “There’s no room on my path for anyone but me.”

He reached out, touching the dragon’s head without a trace of fear in his eyes.

At that very moment, a pulse of light ran through the blue threads as they tightened even further, crushing the gray dragon into pieces.

The gray particles, all that remained of the dragon, scattered in all directions and vanished upon contact with the pillar of light.

But the blue threads’ work was not yet done.

When Adam touched the dragon’s head, his goal was not to kill the dragon, but to clear a path for himself to the surface, straight to the rift.

The blue threads were not his weapon or tool. They were the path to his desires, free and solitary, just like Adam after his death.

Whoooooosh!

The blue threads began to move, spiraling upward and lifting the water in a powerful current.

Soon, the current gained enough strength to lift Adam and pull him upward, carrying him along with the flow.

Several shadows appeared in the distance, but none of them approached the pillar of light. Not because they were wary of Adam, but because they knew he was already leaving and was unlikely to return here anytime soon.

For now, he had nothing left to do at the Dark Field, but… at the Light Field, he still had one important task remaining.

Splash!

With a splash, Adam broke the surface of the Light Field, passing through the same rift.

His feet planted firmly on the rocky plain, while droplets trickled down from the black tips of his hair, shattering against the pebbles at his feet.

At that very moment, a whisper full of fear and disbelief rang out from above.

“N-No… This can’t be…”

Midgar gulped as his face turned pale.

He could see Adam. He was looking right at him right now, but how was that possible?

‘What? H-How? His aura… It disappeared 16 hours ago! I stopped sensing his aura a few minutes after he entered the Dark Field!’ Midgar exclaimed inwardly as he tried to understand what was happening here.

He clenched his fists.

‘Are you saying that all this time he’s been hiding his aura? That’s impossible! Not even the Ascended Lords could hide their auras in the Dark Field! The pressure there is too intense to waste energy on such nonsense!’

A flood of thoughts raced through Midgar’s mind as he tried to find an answer.

At that very moment, Adam raised his head and smiled slightly.

“I’ll tell you the same thing you told me earlier.”

Adam’s gaze grew lighter, almost carefree, which was nothing short of humiliation and an insult to a Lord like Midgar.

“Don’t try to analyze me. You understood everything correctly, Midgar. I died. I died right after I entered the Dark Field and…” He lowered his gaze to his chest. “Apparently, my heart hadn’t been beating for quite some time.”

Midgar’s face contorted with rage.

“How is that possible?! How could a K4-Phantom survive in the Dark Field?!”

In response, Adam shrugged.

“Who knows? Maybe it’s because I never actually needed the Dark Field, I wasn’t heading there, but rather in search of silence. These days, it’s hard to find a place to be alone with yourself, isn’t it?”

Tremble!

Midgar’s aura grew stronger.

“Alright, I was ready for this. I’ll carry out my mission and lead you to the Befallen Crown, Adam Vinter!”

A glint flashed across Adam’s eyes as the blue threads swirled around him.

“Sure. You can try. I don’t mind.”
