Chapter 1983: Another Viscount Fell
Chapter 1983: Another Viscount Fell
Adam completed his mission. He defeated two Lords, and it wasn’t much of a challenge for him to do so.
Raoha and Luaxa were strong, but no match for him. If he had faced them before the battle with Midgar, he would have been in serious trouble. However, he was now on a different level and understood what he needed to do against the Lords.
Now it was Breydar’s turn, and just like Adam, he wasn’t going to hold back. He used everything he had to defeat the bearded man and the two young men.
But, like Adam, he understood that they weren’t his true opponents. He had to conserve his strength to defeat Adam.
That is precisely why he decided to use what he had spent so much time preparing for this battle.
He detonated dozens of crystal pillars covering the central part of Island A215.
The explosion shook not only Island A215 – the shockwave traveled much farther, churning up waves in the Gray Sea and reaching many other islands in the distance.
The crystal pillars outside the center of the island trembled violently as they struggled to withstand the effects of the explosion.
Breydar knew exactly how many crystal pillars he needed to detonate to achieve his goal.
He could have blown up every crystal pillar on the island. Once he had taken control of the island’s energy, he had that ability. But he chose not to.
Sure, all the crystal pillars on Island A215 were more than enough to kill the bearded man and the two young men. The force of that blast would have been enough to kill Raoha, Adam, Midgar, and a few other fighters, but… Breydar was also in the center of the island. He would have died as well.
Thus, he used exactly as many crystal pillars as were needed to achieve his goal without getting hurt in the process.
His opponents were stronger than he was, but they had come to fight on enemy territory, where Breydar had everything he needed to win.
Whooooooosh!
A wave of flame swept to the sides as Adam crossed his arms in front of him. The blue treads created a barrier to protect him, but he was too close to feel anything.
“Damn it!” Adam exclaimed inwardly, feeling intense heat as streams of fire rushed past him on his right and left.
‘Could he have done that at any moment? What if he decides to pull the same trick during our fight?’
Adam had no choice but to wait for the shockwave from the explosion to subside and the flames to die down so he could see the aftermath of the blast.
“Tsk.”
He clicked his tongue, lowering his arms.
“I should have guessed he was capable of something like this. Now I understand why he was so confident of victory. Even if he had to fight one against five, he’d still have a chance.”
Suddenly, a voice rang out in Adam’s head.
‘I don’t think so.’
‘Ah?’
It was the Silver Weaver, who had remained silent until that moment.
‘I can still sense their auras. They’re alive, but most likely severely wounded. If Raoha and Luaxa had been with them, things would have been much more difficult for Breydar. Sure, he could have used more crystal pillars, but then he would have suffered serious injuries from his own explosion.’
Adam nodded cautiously.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. But… it’s unlikely they’ll stay alive much longer.”
A gust of wind swept past Adam as he caught sight of Island A215.
Right in the center of the island was a crater, littered with rocks and gray, energy-depleted crystals.
Then, his gaze turned to the three figures standing to the right of the crater.
“Gha… Gha… Gha…” The bearded man was breathing heavily, while the two young men were struggling to stay on one knee.
The bearded man’s chest was covered with numerous burns and wounds, as was the right side of his face.
His left arm was gone up to the elbow. The flesh was charred, as was the exposed bone.
The young men were in better shape. They hadn’t sustained wounds as severe as the bearded man’s, since he had taken the brunt of the blow.
In some ways, this situation was similar to that of Raoha and Luaxa. Raoha took the brunt of the blow, and Luaxa suffered less, but this had little effect on the outcome of their battle.
But Adam was interested in something else.
He wanted to know what had happened to Breydar.
Tremble.
A slight tremor came from the right as the gray mist barrier fell, revealing Breydar’s silhouette.
Unlike his opponents, he hadn’t sustained any serious wounds – just a few scrapes and cuts.
His aura was significantly weaker than at the start of the battle, but he was ready to keep fighting. He had enough resources to do so.
“Y-You…” The bearded man rasped, raising his gaze, filled with hatred. “Is this the only way you can win? You’d never have won in a fair fight!!!”
Breydar’s expression didn’t change.
“Yes. You’re probably right. It’s difficult for one Viscount to defeat another Viscount who’s being aided by two Barons at once. This was an unfair fight from the very beginning, and I simply evened the odds.”
He stepped forward as shards of crystal crunched beneath his feet.
“The five of you came here to kill me alone. You should have expected that I would do anything to survive, shouldn’t you?” Breydar waved his hand.
The bearded man wanted to say something else, but Breydar saw no point in continuing this conversation.
Step.
Breydar stepped forward as he appeared in front of the bearded man.
With a sweep of his hand, his palm slit the bearded man’s throat.
Blood gushed out as the bearded man tried to stop the bleeding that was rapidly bringing him closer to death, but it was not to be.
Thump.
The bearded man fell to the ground, dying in a pool of his own blood.
The two young men were speechless. Under normal circumstances, they would have stood little chance against Breydar, since they were merely the Barons, the weakest of the Lords.
But now… Now all they could do was wait for their deaths.
“Just as I said,” Breydar stepped forward, “you will all die.”
