Chapter 1985: Two Forces

THUMP!

Adam and Breydar collapsed to their knees. They hadn’t even had a chance to start their fight because something prevented them from doing so.

The powerful aura emanating from the unknown monster practically knocked them to the ground.

Their eyes were wide open as they were both in shock. They couldn’t believe what was actually happening.

Tremble! Tremble! Tremble!

Island A215 shook violently as their faces turned pale.

‘What the hell…’ Adam muttered to himself, clutching his knee. He could barely stay on one knee, but he wasn’t sure how much longer he could hold on.

Breydar was in the same position. The aura that had descended upon them made no distinction between enemies and allies.

Moreover, they had both already realized that this aura wasn’t directed at them. It was simply emanating from some monster that had possibly begun fighting at that very moment.

“What the hell is this?” Breydar clenched his jaw, resting his fist on the ground. “Did you bring someone else with you?”

Adam frowned.

“If I had, I wouldn’t be trying to stay on even one knee. I don’t know what’s going on, just like you!”

For the time being, they had to put aside any thoughts of fighting each other.

Right now, they had to figure out one thing: did this aura pose any danger to them, or had they simply gotten too close to a battle between two creatures that were significantly stronger than they were?

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble…

Gradually, the trembling subsided, as Breydar and Adam grew accustomed to the aura pressing down on them.

Slowly, Adam took a deep breath and stood up, planting both feet firmly on the ground.

It didn’t come easily to Breydar, but mustering his strength, he managed to stand upright directly across from Adam.

“So…” Breydar paused, trying to take advantage of the situation. “What are we going to do? I think fighting right now would be too dangerous for both of us.”

Suddenly, Adam laughed.

“Hahahahaha!”

“Are you serious?”

Adam glared at Breydar.

“You think I’m going to let you go just because stronger monsters have started fighting somewhere at the Gray Sea? Come on, I came here to kill you, not to settle some old score just to make a point.”

Breydar shrugged.

“I had to try. If there’s even the slightest chance I can avoid fighting you, then the right decision would be to take it, wouldn’t it?”

Adam smiled bitterly. He couldn’t argue with that. If he were in Breydar’s shoes, he probably wouldn’t have resorted to such methods, but he understood Breydar’s position.

“Well, it looks like this single aura burst will be the end of it. You’re out of luck, Breydar, our fight—”

TREMBLE!

He hadn’t even finished speaking when another aura wave crashed down on their island. But this time, something was different.

‘This… This is a different aura!’ Adam’s eyes widened in disbelief.

He shifted his stance so he wouldn’t fall to his knees again.

Unfortunately for the two of them, they didn’t yet know what was in store for them.

TREMBLE!

The aura crashed down on Island A215 with full force as Adam and Breydar slammed their faces into the ground.

The pressure exerted on them had the same effect as if the island’s gravity had suddenly become hundreds of times stronger.

All Adam and Breydar could do was look at each other, shock etched on their faces.

Their bodies were pressed into the ground. They couldn’t even lift their hands, let alone stand fully upright.

Unlike last time, the aura showed no signs of weakening.

Not only was their island under brutal pressure, but so were more than a dozen others surrounding the epicenter.

“Damn it…” Adam growled, clenching the stones in his hand. “If this keeps up…”

Breydar and Adam found themselves in a similar situation. This aura wasn’t strong enough to kill or injure them, but they couldn’t withstand such pressure for much longer.

The darkness crept in from the edges, filling their vision.

If they didn’t do something, they’d simply pass out.

Obviously, neither of them could let that happen. It didn’t matter which one lost consciousness – it was too risky.

Even if they both lost consciousness, it would be pure luck which one woke up first.

Tremble.

The only idea that came to Adam’s mind was to activate his own aura. The blue flame covered his body as the pressure began to ease. It was only a little, but it was enough for Adam to catch his breath.

Breydar had no choice but to follow Adam’s lead. His gray energy covered his frame as he, too, began to breathe with difficulty.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble…

Only after a few minutes did the pressure from the unknown aura weaken enough for Adam and Breydar to begin rising from the ground. Still, their auras were active, helping them stay on their feet.

First, they got down on one knee, and only then stood on both feet.

“What do you think of that?” Breydar tilted his head. “You realize that auras like these can’t belong to the Ascended Lords, right?”

Adam frowned. Breydar was right. Neither Ergander nor Blafor nor anyone else of that level was capable of unleashing such a devastating aura.

They were able to withstand it, but what about the multitude of other monsters on the nearby islands and the thousands of Dormant Monsters underwater?

Soon, Adam and Breydar saw the aftermath of those two powerful aura waves.

Splash. Splash. Splash.

With splashes, a multitude of bodies floated to the surface of the dark sea, ranging from fish-like monsters to crabs, octopuses, and many others.

Their eyes were blank. They weren’t dead, but they were unconscious, and it was unknown how long it would take for them to wake up.

Breydar pointed ahead.

“I didn’t realize it the first time, but now I can feel it clearly. The auras were coming from over there.”

Adam turned around.

“And… where does that lead?”

Breydar’s expression grew somber.

“To the Hollow Lands, or, more precisely, to the border between the two lands.”
