Chapter 1990: Bloody Fists

Chapter 1990: Bloody Fists

BAM! BAM! BAM!

For some time now, on Island A216, ravaged by the explosion, the only sounds to be heard were those of bare-fisted punches.

Breydar and Adam continued to attack each other, barely able to stay on their feet. Breydar should have had the advantage because he had two working arms and a little energy left to use his mist arms, but Adam made up for it by still having his Nexus.

His one hand in a crimson glove and a few red threads were enough to hold off Breydar.

“Tsk! Enough!” Breydar spat out a clot of blood before slamming his fist straight into Adam’s jaw from the bottom up.

Blood gushed from Adam’s mouth as his eyes went blank for a moment. But as soon as his feet touched the ground, the light returned to his eyes.

In a sharp turn, the back of Adam’s hand slammed into Breydar’s cheek, snapping his face to the side.

Then, he clenched his fist tightly as the red threads surged toward his hand.

Faster than Breydar could react, Adam stepped forward, delivering a straight punch.

BAM!

Adam’s fist sank deep into Breydar’s stomach as the red threads unfurled in a swirl, leaving numerous cuts on Breydar’s body.

The impact sent Breydar flying to the side, but he managed to stay on his feet.

“Gha… Gha… Gha…”

The heavy breathing coming from the two fighters echoed across Island A216.

Adam and Breydar stared at each other, trying to catch their breath faster than their opponent.

There was no longer any hatred or anger in their eyes. They were both tired and exhausted.

However, it was obvious to both of them that only one of them would leave this island. Adam would not accept any other outcome, and Breydar did not have enough strength to leave the island without killing Adam.

Moreover, at this point, neither of them would have had the strength even to reach the nearest island, whether it was A215 or A217, which lay far ahead.

“What now?” Breydar smiled bitterly, clutching his side.

Adam’s body trembled from the waves of pain coursing through him, but he tried not to show it.

“We’ll keep going,” Adam’s hoarse voice rang out. “Do you think that after everything that’s happened, I’m going to let you go? Huh… If I did that, I wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully.”

Breydar glanced to the side before nodding.

Right now, they were both so weak that neither of them knew who would win. Perhaps it would all come down to a single punch, just like in a fight between ordinary humans.

“I see. You had so many chances to let me go, but in the end, you’ve ended up in a situation where your odds are the same as mine. It’s 50/50, Adam. Either you’ll die, or you’ll survive.”

Adam grinned.

“That’s fine with me. I’m willing to take 50% as long as you have the same 50%. That’s exactly why I told you we’d fight to the end. If you survive and manage to kill me, then you’ve earned this life.”

Breydar clenched his jaw.

“You… You’re a madman, Adam.”

Adam waved his arm in response.

“Even if that’s true, I had to become one to survive in this world.”

“Huh, so it’s the world’s fault?”

Adam nodded.

“Yeah, something like that. You said I couldn’t understand your fear of the Second Rank Phantom, but you were never an ordinary human.”

He pointed at Breydar.

“What’s more, what power level did you even start at? Something tells me it wasn’t the White Threat Level.”

After a few moments of silence, Breydar shook his head.

“No, it wasn’t the lowest level, but I wasn’t born a Lord or an Elder right away. You can be sure of that.”

“Pffft. Either way, your starting point was way higher than mine – that’s it.”

Breydar gave him a long look as his expression grew more serious. He couldn’t argue with Adam on this point because he knew Adam was right.

“Well, everyone has a different past. But we’re here now, aren’t we?”

Step.

He stepped forward, leaving a bloody footprint on the ground.

“Come on, Adam. It’s time to wrap this up. If we keep talking, we’ll just collapse from exhaustion and have to start all over again when we wake up. I’m not ready to fight you again.”

Adam smirked as he stepped forward as well.

“Finally, you’ve said something I can agree with.”

They clenched their fists and attacked again the very next moment.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

Adam and Breydar kept punching each other in the face, determined to keep it up until one of them fell to the ground.

Adam knew that now, with their energy depleted and their bodies covered in wounds, everything came down to luck and sheer willpower.

Well, Adam was ready for such a contest.

The battle against Breydar turned out to be tougher than Adam had imagined. Sure, in many ways it was because of the Veiled Souls Clan and the fact that Breydar knew the Gray Sea much better than he did, but there was another, main reason.

Breydar was a good fighter.

His style and intentions differed from Adam’s, but if necessary, he, just like Adam, was ready to fight to the very end and sink his teeth into any chance that came his way, if there was one.

BAM!

Adam’s fist slammed straight into Breydar’s forehead as his crimson glove cracked, shattering into countless fragments. The remaining energy transformed into two red threads that struck Breydar’s forehead once more, leaving two deep cuts.

THUMP!

Breydar collapsed to the ground. His back touched the rocks covering the surface as the dark sky of the Gray Sea, along with the slowly moving clouds, was reflected in his amber eyes.

A slight tremor rippled across the ground. He didn’t feel it. He could see that Adam was approaching, that very soon he would deliver the final blow.

But… Breydar couldn’t even move the tips of his fingers.

For him, it was the end.
