Chapter 1999: Hungry Jaw
Chapter 1999: Hungry Jaw
Usually, when two powerful warriors fought, everyone nearby wanted to watch the battle. They were curious to see who was fighting, and perhaps they could learn something new.
But not this time.
No one wanted to get near Kamora and Durand. No one knew that it was they who were fighting in the area between the two lands, but the death energy and their auras were frightening enough to send everyone running as far away as possible.
Well, there was one exception, or maybe even two.
The black-and-white shark was heading straight for the site of their battle, with Adam sitting on its back.
“We’re pretty close now, aren’t we?” Adam muttered, watching the ripples running through the air.
He still couldn’t see Kamora and Durand, nor could he sense them through the aura field. That meant they were far beyond the horizon, but as Adam drew closer, he could feel it.
“Yes,” Silvana nodded. “Their auras are growing stronger, and there’s something else… After their battle began, a terrifying aura appeared, like death itself.”
Adam shrugged.
“Well, that means one of them possesses these abilities. There’s only one question left, is that someone on our side or not?”
Silvana glanced at him.
“Do you want that power to end up with the Second-Rank Phantom?”
Adam looked ahead as his weary eyes gradually regained their bright light.
“No. I don’t know. It doesn’t really matter. The only thing that matters is that a Phantom is stronger than this True Lord. After all, that’s what we’re betting on.”
Silvana bit her lip. She knew that was true. By heading to the battlefield, they were putting themselves at risk, but that was Adam’s decision, and Silvana accepted it.
She didn’t know how long it would take them to reach the battlefield, but she felt they would be there very soon.
…
Clasp.
Durand’s and Kamora’s hands clasped as his eyes widened in disbelief.
No one who knew about his abilities and had seen what his energy was capable of was crazy enough to get close to him, let alone touch his hands.
At the very least, Kamora should have used some kind of protection if she was going to do that, but her hands were bare, they weren’t even protected by energy.
“What are you…?”
“Hmm?” Kamora tilted her head. “What? Are you afraid? Come on, show me what you’re capable of. You can unleash all your power on me, I’m standing right in front of you.”
Durand didn’t know what Kamora was up to, but he wasn’t about to pass this up. He had a chance to kill her right here and now!
Tremble!
His aura burst forth in a powerful surge as dark energy covered his hands.
In no time, the dark particles rushed toward Kamora, staining her skin with dark spots. In less than a minute, her hands would be finished.
“What now? What are you planning to do now?” Durand lifted his chin, looking down at Kamora haughtily. “Eat both your hands? Is that your brilliant plan?”
He narrowed his eyes.
“Go ahead, do it. All I’ll have left to do is laugh at your stupidity!”
Kamora smirked as her aura burst forth.
Unlike Durand’s dark aura, hers was gray and gloomy. Her aura didn’t radiate the same danger or menace as Durand’s. No, her aura conveyed only one emotion – hunger.
Durand blinked as he clearly saw in her aura the outline of a massive jaw that seemed capable of devouring anything, as if her aura came from Purgatory itself.
In a heartbeat, the dark spots vanished from Kamora’s hands.
Clasp!
The gray jaw snapped shut, tearing the dark spots to pieces.
“That jaw… It’s devouring my energy! She…” Durand stared at Kamora. “She didn’t just use my power against me, she completely absorbed my death energy!”
If Durand had had a different type of energy, he wouldn’t have been so shocked. But if another monster had tried to absorb his dark energy, that monster would have met its death, it would have rotted from the inside out, and that would have been the end of it.
Kamora was different.
“It doesn’t matter what stands before me: death, life, or a tasty piece of meat. I’m ready to devour anything, and you’re no exception!”
Tap.
Kamora’s palm slammed into Durand’s shoulder.
It was a weak blow, especially considering that Kamora was a Second-Rank Phantom, but the consequences came only a moment later.
The gray jaw opened wide before snapping shut.
Durand’s right shoulder simply vanished. In its place was now only emptiness, and marks from sharp teeth remained on his flesh.
At the same time, his shoulder appeared inside a jaw, and it began to devour it rapidly with such appetite and relish as if his shoulder were a steak from a luxury restaurant.
Durand’s face turned pale as he had only one thought at that moment:
‘Shit.’
Tremble.
Durand’s body trembled as he dissolved into a dark mist.
Kamora’s eyes darted to the side as she sensed his aura appearing in the distance. Even moving at such high speed, he couldn’t escape her gaze.
Well, that wasn’t Durand’s goal.
“Hmm? You saw my aura, and you’re going to keep fighting?”
Kamora smirked.
“I’m surprised. And? What are you going to do now?”
Before answering, Durand glanced at his shoulder. Things were so bad that he couldn’t move his right arm – it was hanging on by a few strands of flesh.
In a single attack from Kamora, he had practically lost his shoulder and arm.
“I’m going to show you why I earned my title. Usually, only monsters have titles, but I’m sure you must have one too. Of the two of us, you look much more like a monster.”
Dark mist poured out of Durand’s body as his aura shifted. Black trickles flowed toward his shoulder, restoring it.
Then, he swung his right arm as space warped.
A long handle appeared in his grip, extending into a curved black blade. It was a massive scythe – his Arc.
