Chapter 2010: Guardian for All the Weak
Chapter 2010: Guardian for All the Weak
Adam knew that if he wanted to destroy the Grand Barrier, he would need the Anchors.
Sure, Lamor and Kamora hadn’t lied to him. Each had their own way of doing it, but the Anchors were essential components.
Also, the Anchors were one of the reasons why the K4-Level was taking so long.
A K4-Phantom had to collect all the Anchors, and Adam didn’t even have all of them yet. He had four, and he still needed to find one last one, connected to the Last Star.
Adam was ready for this. If finding that last Anchor meant he had to venture into distant territory or a dangerous area, he had no choice but to do it.
But… after Kamora pointed him in the right direction, Adam was puzzled.
They were heading toward the Citadel. Very soon, Adam would return home after his first journey to the Gray Sea.
“Wait, what did you say?” Adam looked at her with an awkward expression. “Are you saying I can get the Fifth Anchor right here, at the Citadel?”
Kamora smirked. She knew he’d react exactly like that.
“Well, something like that, but it’s not that simple, Adam. But I won’t tell you about it until the very last moment. Just tell me, do you want to get the Fifth Anchor now or not?”
She waved her hand dismissively.
“If you refuse, I’ll understand. After all, you need some rest, and you have every right to it. But if you go home, you’ll have to find someone else to help you. By the time you’ve rested, I’ll most likely be gone.”
Adam narrowed his eyes.
“Huh, are you kidding? Of course I want to find the Fifth Anchor right now! Stop messing with me and show me what you mean!”
A glint flashed across Kamora’s eyes.
“As you wish.”
At that very moment, a powerful surge of energy burst from Kamora as they shot upward.
They were high above the ground, flying beneath the clouds, but for some reason, Kamora decided to climb even higher.
Even when they crossed the clouds and were level with Heaven Island, where Queen Elisa was, that didn’t stop Kamora.
On the contrary, she flew higher and higher, until another small island appeared in their field of vision, situated above Heaven Island.
This island was artificial and hovered in the air thanks to engines and energy. It was Azure Island, or Frida’s private island.
If it weren’t for Frida, Adam, like many other Phantoms, might not be alive today. She protected every Phantom she could save as long as they were within the territory of the Dead Lands.
Did Frida notice that someone had reached the same level as her island?
Sure.
“What the…?” Frida, who was standing at the entrance to the building, narrowed her eyes.
She saw two figures and knew that Lamor was always with Kamora and Silvana was always with Adam, though, unlike Lamor, Silvana could only take on a spectral form.
“Kamora? Right… I heard she was asked to do this. But where is she going with him?”
Frida raised her head as her eyes widened for a moment.
She knew what Adam’s power level was. All Second Rank Phantoms were aware of it. Well, almost all of them, after all, Kamora had only recently learned of Adam’s existence.
But most of the Second Rank Phantoms were closely watching Adam and his progress. After all, Aiden wasn’t the only one who was confident that Adam could become a Second Rank Phantom in the near future.
There were so few Second Rank Phantoms that even the theoretical appearance of a new one drew a lot of attention.
“Wait…” Frida muttered as it dawned on her. “He just got back from the Gray Sea, and she wants him to get that Anchor right now?”
She clenched her fists.
“She… She’s an idiot! He needs to rest before taking on something like this!”
Before Frida could leave, a girl in her faction’s blue coat ran up to her. Frida wasn’t alone on Azure Island. She was training Phantoms with similar abilities in her line of work. This was beneficial for all of humanity and the Citadel, especially in the future.
“Miss Frida, we need your help! A group of K3 Phantoms is in mortal danger near the Primal Lands!”
“Grh?” Frida growled. This wasn’t like her. She had always been calm and reserved, or at least she tried to be.
The girl flinched but hurried to fill in the remaining details.
“It’s a group of five Phantoms! They’re near the Ice Hills, not far from the Crimson Forest! Several Black Threat Monsters are heading toward them, and there’s no one nearby who can help them!”
“Damn it!”
Frida waved her hand in frustration before soaring into the air.
“Ice Hills, you say?”
The girl nodded several times vigorously.
“There might also be an Elder there, but we’re not sure.”
Frida took a deep breath, regaining her composure.
“I see. Alright, after I help them, I’ll have to step away for a while. You and the others will have to handle all the requests for help. Do you understand?”
“Yes!” The girl stood up straight. “We’ll do everything in our power! You can count on us!”
Frida nodded.
“I hope so. Alright… Let’s take care of this.”
Tremble.
A tremor rippled through the air as a powerful surge of aura burst forth from Frida, billowing from her like an azure flame.
A massive spear appeared above the floating island, large enough to pierce the island right through or tear a great dragon to pieces with a single precise throw.
At Frida’s command, the spear began to spin, whipping up a vortex around itself and causing the clouds above the Citadel to move slightly faster than usual.
Frida waved her hand as the spear flew forward, becoming a blue flash that would be hundreds of kilometers away in a few minutes.
That’s exactly how, once upon a time, Frida saved Adam’s life – twice.
