Chapter 621: Two Hearts Beating As One [Part 3]

Alex lay on the bed, holding Noelle in his embrace.

After three rounds of lovemaking, their hearts and bodies had been sated.

They quietly hugged each other, enjoying this intimate moment together. There was no need for words of love, for they had already bared their hearts to each other earlier.

Alex had poured out all of his love and feelings to Noelle, and she had accepted all of them.

His regrets over missing the chance to confess to her how important she was to him had gnawed on his mind for a very long time. Now that he’d finally resolved it, Alex felt his heart lighten.

A soft silence lingered in the room, broken only by the faint sound of their breathing.

Noelle rested her head on Alex’s chest, listening to the calm yet steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

She could tell his heart was now at peace, just like how she felt at that moment.

Suddenly, something inside of Alex’s body came undone.

The young man flinched as a piercing pain wracked his brain. He endured it, not wanting to alarm Noelle. Still, she looked up at him, realizing that something was wrong.

"Sorry, Alex..." Noelle apologized. "I just felt like teasing you a bit. Did I pinch too hard?"

"No," Alex replied. "It’s not your fault. This is something else."

In reality, the sudden pain had been so overwhelming that he had not felt Noelle pinching his chest at all.

The pain remained, but it gradually faded away. As it slowly disappeared, new memories appeared inside Alex’s head.

The seal Evangeline’s father, Nero, had placed on his memories seemed to have cracked a bit, allowing him to remember things the Vampire Lord wanted to keep secret.

His family in the Aetherion Empire, the villa in the snow, and his beloved guardian...

"The cursed prince..." Alex muttered.

"Cursed prince?" Noelle blinked. "What are you talking about?"

"Nothing." Alex shook his head, trying to clear his mind. He had no idea what had just happened, and frankly, he didn’t want to know. In fact, he wished he hadn’t remembered anything just now.

His past as one of the princes of the Aetherion Empire wasn’t something he wanted to talk about, not even with Noelle. His own flesh and blood had forced him to flee for his life with his protector, Luthor.

A few minutes of silence passed before Alex planted a kiss on Noelle’s forehead.

"Noelle, what will your parents think if I were to visit them now and ask for your hand in marriage?" Alex asked calmly.

"The question you should ask is what they would ’DO’ if you were to do something like that." Noelle giggled. "First, I think my grandma would be happy. She’s been pestering me to give her a great-grandchild before she passes away."

"Grandma likes me a lot," Alex smiled after remembering Noelle’s grandmother, who had always treated him kindly whenever he had visited their shrine.

Noelle’s family came from a long line of shrine maidens, who were said to have exorcised monsters that had troubled even armies!

All of their husbands had been successful businessmen because the unofficial family motto was that if the women were in charge of the fighting, the men should take care of the earning! As such, Noelle’s parents wanted her to marry the future heir of a major company.

But Noelle was different. She wasn’t a doll who would allow others to dictate her fate. Her brothers were also overprotective and indulged her, so their parents couldn’t force her to do anything.

Naturally, her grandmother was also on their side.

Alex could still remember the glare of Noelle’s father and mother whenever she had brought him back to her home.

Surely, they had been offended that a mere commoner had caught the eye of their daughter, who was beautiful, smart, and the jewel of their family.

Noelle’s brothers had barely tolerated Alex, though they were at least more polite than their parents. Because of this, he wasn’t too surprised when Noelle said that her brothers might beat him up and throw him into the sea if he did come and ask for her hand in marriage!

"You know, if only your parents knew that I am a prince, they might not reject my proposal," Alex joked.

"What kind of prince are you?" Noelle asked dreamily. "And what country does your family rule? Would it be easier for me to snap up homes in prime areas?"

"... Your business mindset is starting to kick in again."

"Oops!"

Alex chuckled. This was indeed part of Noelle’s charm. She was not only good at commanding their guild, but also had a keen nose for business. In fact, she had her own company that auctioned desirable items in ELO for real money.

Alex couldn’t really be considered poor. He had enough savings—which was in the millions—through playing the game. There’s also his monthly salary from their guild’s company.

But compared to what Noelle’s family earned in a month, his savings was just a pitiful drop in the bucket.

"Still, if you were really a prince, I’m sure my parents would change their opinion about you," Noelle smirked. "They would stop looking at you like a..."

"Like a pesky fly that hovers around their daughter?" Alex interjected.

Noelle giggled because that was exactly what she was about to say. She gently tussled Alex’s hair, smiling at him. Of course, he didn’t take this lying down, even though he was actually lying down.

His hands squeezed her backside, eliciting a gasp from her.

"You wouldn’t dare..." Noelle challenged.

But action was louder than words.

"I have rested enough, and this playful exchange is enough to put me in the mood!"

Noelle shook her head helplessly before placing a finger over his lips.

"Alex, as much as I want to make love to you once more, we are out of time," Noelle said sadly. "Just remember that what we experienced here is real. A union of souls that is more intimate than the union of bodies.

"Also, I will wait for you. Tie up all the loose ends, become strong, and survive. Perhaps when you come and visit me again, you will have enough charm to impress my parents."

Alex didn’t doubt her words. He didn’t know why, but he felt that what they shared between each other was special.

Something sacred that words couldn’t explain.

"Also..." Noelle smiled faintly, glancing at the wall of Alex’s room, where a fox lady was trying to break through.

She then propped herself up, kissed Alex, and melted his heart melt with a few magical words.

"I love you. Always have, always will. Goodbye, Alex. Until we meet again."

"I love you too, Noelle."

"I know." Noelle gently caressed the young man’s face.

A moment later, Alex woke up and found himself staring at the familiar ceiling of their clubroom.

He felt both sad and relieved that he was back in Arcana. His memory of Noelle was still vivid in his mind.

This made him truly believe that a miracle had happened to bring them together.

’Someday...’ Alex thought. ’I will come to find you.’

He had to admit that this was the greatest birthday of his life. Not only had he been able to share it with the people who were precious to him, but endless possibilities had now presented themselves to him.

He was no longer that pitiful prince who had been forced to leave his only home for his safety, nor was he the aimless and confused Alex back on earth.

Now, he could finally move forward, regardless of what the future had in store for him.
