Chapter 747: The Mysterious Island of Hy-Brasil

“Princess, something is happening…” said Sir Alphonse, Princess Xenia’s godfather, while pointing at the fog in the distance.

Night had already come, and the light of the moon seemed to descend upon the fog that had remained thick for the entirety of the day.

To their fascination, the fog parted slowly, revealing an island.

“Hy-Brasil…” Aeris muttered.

“Mother…” Lapiz looked longingly at the island while clenching her fists.

“Everyone, get ready,” Alex said before summoning shields that everyone could step on.

“Dim Dim!”

The little bun jumped on top of Alex’s head in response. It was even wearing a red bandana as if prepared to go to war.

Cairo, Elaine, and Efa had already transferred to the princess’ airship, standing on a large magical shield Alex had conjured for them.

Alex looked at Charles, Vaan, Chuck, Nessia, Renard, Eleanora, Lapiz, and Aeris with a serious expression.

“You can still turn back,” Alex stated. “I will not force you to come. There’s no backing out once you’re inside, and it’s very dangerous there. Failing also means that we will get stuck on that island for seven years, and we might even die.”

“Are we going to fail?” Vaan asked in a teasing tone. “If so, you’ll have to take responsibility.”

“We won’t fail,” Aeris said with determination. “I’ll bring my mother back with me, no matter what.”

Lapiz also nodded with determination. “We will succeed, no matter what.”

The rest didn’t say anything and simply waited for the shields to enter the mysterious island that was said to only appear once every seven years.

“Very well then.” Alex took a deep breath as if to steel his nerves. “Let’s go.”

Leading the way, the young man headed towards the island. His magical shields then followed behind him in a V formation, making sure they were close enough to each other.

The moment they flew past the fog area, Alex felt like they had crossed some kind of invisible barrier.

He immediately sensed that his strength was being drained for some reason, and the magical shields he had created to bring his friends to Hy-Brasil started to flicker as if they would soon disappear from existence.

Using the last bit of strength he still possessed, Alex increased their flight speed until they finally arrived at the island.

As soon as they flew over it, the shields suddenly disappeared. Fortunately, they were only hovering a few meters above the ground.

Aeris and Efa both used Wind Magic to cushion everyone’s fall, so they all landed safely.

“Are you alright, Alex?” Latifa asked after seeing how pale he looked.

“Don’t worry.” Alex covered his lips with his right hand because he suddenly felt nauseous for some reason. “I’m fine.”

“Here. Drink this Stamina Potion.” Nessia offered Alex a potion, which the young man didn’t reject. “You look really pale.”

“Thank you.” Alex didn’t hesitate to drink the potion, and immediately felt a little better the moment the potion took effect.

While Alex was recovering from what seemed to be Mana Exhaustion, everyone was carefully paying attention to their surroundings.

From where they stood, they could see a tall mountain, surrounded by a lush forest.

Though, aside from the mountain, something else caught their attention.

“Dim Dim!”

The little bun was being nuzzled by a black rabbit, which seemed to be checking if Dim Dim was edible or not.

Dozens of black rabbits had approached them out of curiosity, and their actions made it very obvious that they weren’t afraid of interacting with humans.

Soon, the other girls began to pet the fluffy and docile rabbits, while the guys kept watch on their surroundings.

“Dim Dim, can you ask them if they have seen any humans or elves in this place aside from us?” Alex asked.

The little bun saluted and started to converse with the rabbits. After a bit of back and forth, Dim Dim eventually confirmed that there was a city at the base of the mountain where humans and other races lived.

“Dim Dim!”

“They can take us there if we want?”

“Dim!”

Since their purpose was to rescue Aeris and Lapiz’s mother, they decided to ask the black rabbits to lead them to the mountain.

Half an hour later, they arrived at the forest. But just as Alex took a single step inside of it, his world suddenly began to spin around him.

Just as he fell on the ground and was about to lose consciousness, he saw his lovers and friends also collapse on the ground beside him.

The eyes of the rabbits then glowed red as they looked upon them in silence. While they didn’t show any kind of hostility or malice, it was as if they had already expected something like this to happen.

Alex did his best to stay awake. However, a pressure seemed to be pressing upon his consciousness, forcefully pushing it down.

His resistance only lasted for a minute before darkness finally consumed him.

And within that darkness, something stirred and reached out to him, as if it had been waiting for the young man for a very long time.

“At long last… you have come.”

At the sea overlooking Hy-Brasil…

“Do you think they’re alright, Princess?” Mary asked.

She had done her best to keep her voice calm, but Princess Xenia still caught the anxiety from the slight tremble in her voice.

“Don’t worry,” Princess Xenia replied. “All of them are strong. If there is any danger on that island, they will handle it well.”

It was at that moment that they noticed something flying across the sky.

It looked like a purple fireball was making its way toward Hy-Brasil, leaving trails of purple mist in its wake.

This sudden development made everyone instinctively feel that this was no ordinary phenomenon.

And just like they expected, the purple fireball landed on the island, creating a faint ripple of energy that seemingly announced its arrival.

However, it didn’t stop there.

Another fireball, this time coming from the west and completely covered in dark flames, also landed on the island.

A second ripple of power soon expanded across the sea, creating faint waves that brushed past the two ships that were waiting for their people’s return.

High above the heavens, hidden from the view of mortals, five life-sized tarot cards manifested.

“Oh? Another reunion?” A little Devil sat on top of one of the cards with a mischievous smile plastered on his face. “We just met in Faelarun, yet the four of you still came here at once. You must be feeling worried about your apostles, right?”

The four didn’t even bother to reply to the little devil’s words and simply observed the fallen young men and women inside the forest.

This island was created by the Hermit, who liked creating trials for mortals.

Even with their power, it would be difficult to break through the enchantment that the Hermit placed, especially an enchantment that was thousands of years old.

For now, the only thing they could do was observe and wait.

Deep inside the mountain, within a chamber no sunlight had touched for countless ages, a pair of golden eyes slowly opened.

Ancient chains forged from unknown metals trembled ever so slightly in response, as though they had sensed the arrival of someone they had been waiting for.

A low rumble soon echoed through the depths of Hy-Brasil, causing even the mountain itself to quiver for a brief moment.

The black rabbits began to scatter in every direction, abandoning the unconscious visitors without a second glance, as if fleeing from something far more terrifying.

Then, from somewhere deep within the island, a single voice echoed across the darkness, carrying an indescribable mixture of joy… and sorrow.

“The Heir of Aetherion… has finally returned.”

And with that voice, silence once again descended upon the island that had drifted across time and space, waiting for fortune to favor the bold.
