Chapter 757: The Scum Of The Earth [Part 1]
I couldn’t remember when and how it started.
Perhaps it happened when my mother disappeared. Or perhaps it happened before she left the castle.
Too much time had simply passed that I had already forgotten the main reason why I decided to become the perfect princess loved and adored by my people.
Every day, I would wake up at four in the morning. After freshening myself, I would run around the castle grounds to maintain and build my stamina.
For two hours, I would run. Then, when I was done, I would dedicate the next two hours into practicing swordsmanship.
To end my morning routine, I would then bathe and prepare for the day’s lessons.
History, royal etiquette, embroidery, dancing, and other skills essential to the members of the royal family were drilled into me by my teachers.
I didn’t mind studying. As long as I did well, I would be praised by my teachers, as well as my parents.
Perhaps it was those words of affirmation that sparked everything.
Getting praised and complimented for becoming a hard worker made me feel good and boosted my ego. And to top it off, I was born talented.
Many called me a genius.
Some would even refer to me as a prodigy.
And as I grew up, mastering both sword and pen, I realized something else.
I held power.
Not just the power that I gained from birth, but also the power to inspire and lead others.
Those people often told me that I was born to lead.
Albeit jokingly, some even said that I should become the Elven Queen that would succeed my father.
They believed that someone as perfect as me would be “perfect” for the role and that the Kingdom of Faelarun would enter a golden era under my rule.
Sometimes, I would imagine myself reigning upon the elven kingdom, creating laws and projects that would truly make their lives comfortable.
However, I knew that the crown was meant for my younger brother, Prince Kaelen.
Although he had many faults, I believe he would become a good king.
A king loved by our people.
Since being a ruler was no longer an option, a princess like me would only serve one other purpose.
A political marriage.
I was prepared for it.
In fact, I didn’t really care who would become my partner.
Why?
Because I was marrying out of duty, not out of love.
Love was a word that I only half understood.
Of course, familial love was something I knew all too well.
But romantic love?
What nonsense was that?
They said that when you fall in love, only then will you know it.
You would feel it.
It would happen without any rhyme or reason.
The funny thing was that I had always been the object of love for others.
I would regularly receive love letters from everyone, as well as confessions. Of course, I rejected all of them. After all, the one who would decide whom I would eventually marry was not me.
The decision lay upon my father, the King of Faelarun, King Aerindir. Only he had the right to choose my partner.
Since we were allied with the Kingdom of Solara and the Kingdom of Avalon, it went without saying my marriage partner would be from either kingdom.
Of course, I could also be married off to the powerful empire in the north, the Aetherion Empire.
The only problem was that the north was a very cold place.
On top of that, I rarely heard good things about the princes of the Aetherion Empire. Rumors say their princes were womanizers that would take their pick among the ladies of the nobility without thinking of being responsible for them.
To them, it was just a means to showcase their powers.
Whether those rumors were true or not, I didn’t really care. Even if I were to be married off to one of their princes, as long as it helped the Kingdom of Faelarun, I would say “Yes” on the altar after walking down the aisle.
I believed no prince nor any man alive would be able to resist me.
After all, I was born with brains, brawn, and beauty.
I was the perfect lady with the perfect background.
And yet… There was one person who didn’t choose me.
Instead, he preferred my sister, Lapiz, over me.
I tried to convince myself that I shouldn’t think too much about it. Everyone was free to love whoever they wanted.
Yet, why did his words, his actions, and his expressions affect me so much?
Since when did I start becoming conscious of the young man who went by the name Alex Stratos?
When I first heard of his name and exploits, the first thing that I felt for him was a single word.
Disgust.
People who used blackmail to get their way were scum in my eyes. And yet, people still gathered under his banner.
Beautiful ladies gathered around him like it was normal.
And what made it worse was that he wished to add my sister to his harem.
Perhaps that was the main reason why I decided that I would not have any of it.
I warned my sister repeatedly that Alex Stratos was scum.
A womanizer, a blackmailer, and a human not worth anything.
So… why did my sister not listen to my words?
Back then, she would always obey my orders as if it was the most natural thing in the world. At first, I thought she was just entering her rebellious phase.
I even believed this happened because our mother went missing. If our mother had been here, she would have taught Lapiz on what was right and what was wrong.
She would tell her which man was good, and which one was bad.
In my attempt to find all the hidden skeletons in Alex Stratos’ closet, I ordered the secret agents of my kingdom to research his background.
Yet, regardless of how much resources were used to uncover his origins, it all led to one place, and one place only.
The Floating Islands of Thaloria.
Alex simply appeared in that place one day, as if he were a mushroom that suddenly sprouted under a rock.
He then made contact with Cairo of the Clawford Tribe.
Not long after, he went to their village and became the Oathkeeper.
A Job Class that was said to have been used by the founder of the Clawford Tribe.
The more information I gathered about Alex, the more I realized that this person’s actions couldn’t be explained with normal logic.
Who in their right mind would even dare to oppose the Demon Worshipers and fight one of their Elders just to save Vaan Damne, the Heir of the Montclair Viscounty?
Was he in love with her?
Sure, they were recognized as a couple within the academy, and would stroll walking hand in hand like lovers did.
To be honest, he should have been happy to have someone like Vaan. But just like all scummy men, he wasn’t satisfied with just one beauty.
Latifa, Lavinia, Evangeline, and Fran.
According to my agents, they had also become his lovers.
After hearing this, this made me wonder. How did all of this happen?
Did he have a Charm Skill that charmed these exceptional ladies?
What was so good about him?
I couldn’t understand why they would even bother to entangle themselves with a guy like him.
They could have picked a better man like Charles Lambert, a responsible, upright, and honest to goodness young man.
But no.
They chose Alex Stratos instead.
Sometimes, I wonder if they simply had bad taste in men.
But how could even my sister have feelings for him?
That was unforgivable.
And so, I decided to do it. I planned to seduce Alex Stratos and gather enough evidence to prove that he was the scum of the earth.
By doing so, I believe that my sister would wake up from her delusions and see him for what he really was.
