Chapter 2099: Seargeant Major Toren Caldwell

-----

"Greetings, extraterrestrials, I am Seargeant Major Toren Caldwell."

The man in front of us quickly introduced himself, his eyes seemed to be blazing with determination, but I could see he was sweating, and his heart was pounding really fast, just by glancing at us at enormous heights and presences, he was probably very afraid, but as a Sergeant Major, he could never show that face to his soldiers.

"Greetings, my name is Drake, I am a figure of authority within this world, the Dragon King," I spoke, stepping forward. "I once was an ordinary civilian in my previous life. Through a miracle, I was reincarnated into this world as a dragon."

"I see… so what they told is the truth," the old man said, shocked, but quickly recovering his composure. "I must first ask… where did you live before, and what was your real name? I must know your human half, to know you were once… one of us. And if you still are."

"You will likely not recognize my name… but it was David," I said. "I had no surname, my parents died in an accident, I was taken care by my abusive uncle, until I killed him after he almost killed me. After that, my aunt and her family adopted me. I used to live in Dubuque, Iowa."

"Iowa…?" muttered the Sergeant.

"Yeah, it's a Mississippi River town with about seventy thousand folks, historic brick buildings, and a mix of blue-collar workers, families, and retirees. Think local diners, Friday night football, and community fairs—pretty standard, unflashy American life." I laughed. "I studied gastronomy and professional gourmet cooking, and worked at a family diner restaurant… But I also liked staying at home, reading, and taking care of the kids, my aunt's children."

"…"

The Sergeant looked at me, his alertness suddenly disappearing, as he sighed.

"Son, you're really an American…" he laughed lightly. "You… had quite the life too. Honestly, if you were lying, it would be way too much effort, and an alien wouldn't simply know all of that… even less speak about all of this genuinely. I want to believe you… No, I'll choose to believe you."

"Thank you Sergeant," I nodded. "Life didn't treat us quite well, huh? But honestly, even though I was very afraid myself when I came to this world… I've grown to love it."

The Sergeant looked behind me, realizing I had a big family and a lot of friends.

"I see… you've made yourself a wonderful family, son," he said. "Reincarnation, monsters, magic, dragons… honestly, a week ago I would have never believed you if you told me there was a world out there with all of that, but here we are. I have no idea what's going on, honestly, nobody does… but maybe God hasn't abandoned us yet, because he sent you."

"You're exaggerating," I laughed. "If you trust me, can we shake hands?"

"…Alright but be careful not to break this old man's bones, alright?" he laughed, as he extended his hand towards me, and I gently shook his hand with my fingers, barely managing to grab his hand, much smaller than mine.

As we both nodded, he finally got more confident, lowering his guard.

"The boys told you were here to help, but tell me, what was your real intention when coming to this place?" he asked.

"I was coming to save people, actually, this entire thing happening… it happened because I fought a being known as Chaos, capable of distorting the very fabric of space and time," I explained. "Although I managed to defeat her, this created ripples through the dimensions, and Yggdrasil, this world, was at the brink of collapse. However, as two other worlds, Earth and Zipangu drew closer, they started to take onto the weight, slowly beginning to merge with it."

"…I can barely believe it or understand it, but I'm trying my best," he muttered, as the soldiers were left puzzled. "So you came here to help then?"

"It was a surprise to find you, but yes," I nodded. "I primarily came here to help the original inhabitants of Yggdrasil. Although Earth might not be threatening, there's another world, the one I mentioned earlier, Zipangu. It is a terrifying world with enormously strong foes invading this world. There's also a few people I wanted to meet, alongside them, dragons. We're preparing, something is happening. And whoever has been behind many of the tragedies we've faced and overcome is planning something too, we aim to stop him."

"…" the Sergeant remained in silence for a good minute. "Tell me the truth, do you know of a way for us to return?"

"So far? No," I said. "I can only close the cracks between space, but it seems I cannot directly access these other worlds, nobody can, if you tried, the dimensional walls would probably kill you… I cannot guarantee you going back home, but I can guarantee your safety, shelter, and food."

"You can? To a whole city?" he asked.

"Easily," I nodded. "I am what's known as a Divine Dragon, I possess power over creation."

I opened my palm, as they saw with wonder as I created fruits and vegetables from Earth with ease.

"I can create supplies and food with ease," I said. "I can also erect a powerful barrier around the city, and my family can take care of the monsters."

"Y-You truly can do all of that?!" he asked in disbelief. "But… why? Surely, you're not doing this out of nowhere? Not asking for a single thing out of us?"

"As I said earlier to your soldiers, maybe some snacks from Earth would be appreciated, a soda too," I said. "I miss those."

He looked at me in disbelief and then burst into laughter. "Hahaha! Alright… so many things have happened, we might as well roll with it…! Thank you! We'll help as much as we can. First, I should show you our base and the shelter… one of my soldiers mentioned you had a daughter that can heal people?"
