Esper Harem in the Apocalypse

Chapter 1090: Anti-Hero Fiasco

Chapter 1090: Anti-Hero Fiasco

"You were sent to capture him 10 minutes ago, yet you failed!"

"I failed?" Triss scoffed sarcastically. "I was this close to capturing him." Triss showed a pinch with a gap.

"Oh? Why can't we see him then?"

"He managed to escape because you barged in."

"You hail yourself as the fastest person in the world, and if someone managed to slip through you, doesn't that mean you are a liar?"

Triss flicked her finger in the air and all the officers were sent flying. Some of them managed to hold their ground, but their knees grow weak and they fell to their backs.

"Attacking an officer is the second most common crime. Are you prepared to face the consequences of your actions?" said the boss as he pointed his gun at Triss.

"Attack?" Triss once again scoffed. "You call that an attack? If your officers are so weak that they can't even stand their ground with a simple finger slick of mine, then they don't deserve to stand in front of me."

The boss slowly moved his finger to the trigger, but the next second, the gun had disappeared from his hands. Confused, he looked at his hands until he was called by Triss.

"Are you looking for this?" Triss asked as she crushed the gun with her bare hands.

"...."

The entire army of the officials was defeated just like that.

"You shouldn't have taken my kindness as my weakness. I am not afraid of you or the stupid laws the government made because they were afraid of the heroes. There won't be a single hero to save your asses if another apocalypse broke out.

I was cooperating with the rules and the laws because I didn't want to create an anti-faction like it has happened in other countries. You have no right or authority over me, remember that."

"What does this all have to do with the current situation? You failed to catch a criminal that entered your property. And instead of catching him, you are blaming us for your failure?"

Even though they were clearly at a disadvantage, the boss didn't hesitate to speak up. It was as though he didn't consider himself inferior to the heroes.

"The trespasser possessed the ability to teleport. As long as I had my eyes on him, he wouldn't have escaped." Triss pointed her eyes at the damage around her and continued, "As you can see, nothing is left intact in my restaurant."

"Why should we believe you? You could be lying. You might have helped him because he was one of 'your' kind."

"You and your team surrounded the restaurant from all the sides. In fact, half of your team is still outside. Have you or any of your team members seen him escape? I am sure you brought the tracking gadgets with you."

The chief took out a talking device and spoke, "What's the report?"

Pshhtph!

[No changes outside.]

"Did the radar spot something leaving the area?"

[No, sir.]

The chief put down the device and looked at Triss, but avoided eye contact.

"What happened?"

"Leaving everything aside, you attacked the government officers! You will be charged with—"

Before the chief could finish his sentence and threaten Triss, she interrupted him and said, "You are the ones who broke the rule first and tried to attack me. I merely acted in self defence."

"When did we—"

"The law of conduct clearly states that when an awakened person enters a no-entry area, the 'government officials' are required to have a local awakened with them for fair play and security. And you broke that law."

Triss quoted with her fingers.

"Just like how there is a law to protect normal civilians, there is a hero organization to protect the hero. We can file a complaint in our departments and see how things turn out. Or we can forget about this incident and be done with it."

"You want us to turn a blind eye to this incident?"

"Do whatever you want to do." Triss casually shrugged her shoulders as though she couldn't care less about the aftermath.

"What about the criminal that escaped?"

"It's impossible to catch someone who can teleport. He could be on the other side of the country now. Even if someone spots him, he will simply teleport again."

The chief took a moment to ponder and muttered, "We both will have to bear the shame of this failure."

'The government is already on the edge regarding the anti-hero fiasco. They don't want to draw the attention of the hero organization more than they already have. If both sides go to war, we would suffer a humiliating defeat.'

Although the chief was aware of the consequences of their actions, they didn't want to back off. They were representing all of humanity who hadn't awakened. They had no choice but to act strong.

Tired of waiting, Triss asked, "What's your call? I don't have all day. I have to look for some workers to restore the restaurant."

The chief stayed silent and turned around to look at officers who were still in the midst of recovering.

"Let's go. We will report that this was a false case and there was no one awakened here."

The officers helped each other and left the scene.

Triss, still cautious, waited for a few minutes for everyone to leave. Once she had confirmed that everything was clear, she let out a weary sigh and rubbed her face with her hands.

"What the fuck is going on?! Why did I lie?!"

"That's what I am curious about." Rudy suddenly appeared in front of her.

"So you really have an ability to teleport, huh?"

"I can do many things."

"Yeah… like destroying my restaurant." She glanced around. "Even my favorite chandelier. It was a rare piece, you know?"

"I sensed them coming inside and that was the only option left."

Rudy snapped his finger and everything began to restore itself.

Triss watched in awe as the restaurant went back to how it was before.

In the end, a bowl slowly landed in Triss hands and it was slowly filled with freshly made fries.

"Here you go."

"What's… this…?" Triss asked with a dumbfounded look on her face.

"You should eat before we start our challenge." He smirked from the corner of his lips and added, "I won't let you rest."
