Chapter 1093: The Challenge
Chapter 1093: The Challenge
Rudy let Triss decide the rules of the challenge since he wanted to be fair, but Triss felt insulted and refused to set terms of the challenge.
Although Rudy was sure to win regardless of any rules set by Triss, nothing mattered and bothered him about the challenge.
"This is my first time in a dungeon, but I have read how they work. I know every dungeon works in a different pattern, but they have been categorized for better understanding," Rudy asserted in a low voice.
"The monsters will appear in large numbers and in waves. Since this is the SSS rank portal, it will automatically be cleared once the boss has been killed." Triss said while gazing at the horde of the monsters.
"We have little to no information about this portal. We don't know how many bosses this one has. As long as we kill the bosses, the rank of the portal will drop. And once the difficulty of the portal has weakened, lower rank heroes will be able to enter the portal."
Triss continued to show her expertise and flaunt her experience as a hero. Her explanation was so simple that Rudy didn't even have follow up questions to clear his doubts.
"Where do we find the bosses? Do they spawn or something?" Rudy asked curiously.
"We have to get rid of like fifty percent of the monsters first.
Rudy cracked his knuckles, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Alright, Triss. Here's the deal. Whoever kills the most monsters wins. Simple, right?"
Triss raised an eyebrow, her hands resting casually at her sides. "Simple? In an SSS-rank portal? You're either insane or overconfident. Maybe both."
"Both. I am insanely overconfident," Rudy admitted with a laugh. "But hear me out. To make it fair, we'll assign points. D-rank monsters are worth 1 point, C-rank 5, B-rank 10, A-rank 100, S-rank 500, and SS-rank 1000. Oh, and if a boss shows up, we call each other and take it down together. No solo heroics."
Triss tilted her head, considering his proposal. "And what about your… abilities? I've seen you do some weird stuff, Rudy. If you start pulling tricks out of nowhere, this won't be fair."
Rudy held up his hands in mock surrender. "No tricks. Just speed and strength. Same as you. I don't use a weapon nor do I have armor. You can use them, though. I just don't need them." He gestured to his bare hands and casual clothes, which looked laughably out of place in the apocalyptic landscape.
People even though Rudy had come for a picnic.
Triss narrowed her eyes, studying him for a moment. "You're serious? No gadgets, no weird powers, just raw speed and strength?"
"Scout's honor," Rudy said, placing a hand over his heart. "Besides, I don't need anything else to beat you."
Triss snorted, but there was a glint of amusement in her eyes. "Confident, aren't you? Fine. Let's do this. But don't come crying to me when you're drowning in monsters."
"Deal," Rudy said, extending a hand. Triss shook it firmly, her grip strong and steady. Rudy didn't even flinch.
As they parted ways, Triss glanced at her spatial earrings, the faint shimmer of stored energy catching her eye. She didn't need her gauntlet yet—not for these low-tier monsters. Speed and precision would be enough.
Rudy, meanwhile, strolled casually into the fray, his hands in his pockets. The first wave of monsters—D-rank creatures with jagged claws and glowing eyes—emerged from the shadows, their guttural growls echoing through the twisted landscape.
"Let's get this party started," Rudy said, cracking his neck.
Triss moved like a blur, her fists and feet striking with deadly precision. D-rank monsters fell in droves, their bodies disintegrating into ash before they even hit the ground. She was a whirlwind of motion, her movements so fast they were almost invisible. Every strike was calculated, every step deliberate. She didn't waste a single motion.
Rudy, on the other hand, was… different. He didn't have a weapon, nor did he need one. His fists moved faster than the eye could follow, each punch sending shockwaves through the air. Monsters exploded on impact, their remains scattering like confetti. He didn't even break a sweat.
"Hundred points!" Rudy called out after obliterating a pair of C-rank monsters with a single kick.
"Another ten points!" Triss shot back, crushing three B-rank creatures with a series of rapid, precise strikes.
The two of them moved through the battlefield like forces of nature, their paths leaving trails of destruction in their wake. Triss was methodical, her experience evident in every move. Rudy, meanwhile, was unpredictable, his attacks almost playful. He laughed as he fought, as if this was the most fun he'd had in years.
He felt as though he was playing a survival game with cheat mod on.
As the battle raged on, Triss couldn't help but notice something strange. Rudy wasn't just fast—he was too fast. His strength was beyond anything she'd ever seen, even from S-rank heroes. And yet, he didn't seem to realize it. He fought with the casual ease of someone who didn't know their own power.
"Hey, Rudy!" Triss called out as she dispatched a group of A-rank monsters. "You sure you're not using any abilities?"
"Just speed and strength, like I promised!" Rudy replied, dodging a massive claw swipe from an S-rank beast. He countered with a punch that sent the creature flying into a nearby rock formation, where it exploded on impact. "Five hundred points!"
Triss stared at him for a moment, her fists hovering mid-swing. "Is this seriously your first time fighting monsters?"
Rudy casually yawned and covered his mouth after answering, "Yes. I have fought a pack of goblins before, but this is my first time in the portal."
Triss has fallen into a deep thought.
'I still don't know who he is. He is strong… super strong. Maybe he is hiding his true identity, but I want to trust him. He is at the level of A… no, he is at least S rank… or perhaps… even stronger.'
"Hey…" Triss' punch pierced through an A rank monster. "You asked me if I had a lover, right? I want to make it clear that I am a virgin."
