Chapter 1107 1107: Speed Running Life events (7) || Rudy and the Twins
Eleanor didn't offer comfort or rush to the bed to coddle them. She walked over to the side table, poured a glass of water from a crystal carafe, and drank it herself.
"Define 'everything,'" she asked.
Eric looked like he was about to vomit. He scrambled off the bed, his legs tangling in the sheets, and hit the floor hard on his knees. He didn't try to stand. He just stared at the carpet, his chest heaving.
"1989," Eric choked out. "We... we were there. The town. The school. The... the locker room."
"The beginning," Rudy corrected. He hadn't moved from the dresser. He watched them break down with the detachment of a scientist observing a lab rat. "You saw the foundation."
"We saw a slaughter!" Eric shrieked. His eyes darted between Rudy and Eleanor, filled with a mixture of fear and revulsion. "Those kids in the changing room... you didn't just kill them. You crushed them. You erased them like they were ants. You didn't even blink!"
He gagged, covering his mouth.
"And then?" Eleanor prompted, her voice sharp. "Spit it out, guys. I don't have all day."
"Then you... with him," Erika whispered, looking up at his father with betrayed eyes. "Right after. You went to her house and... it was like you were an animal. You didn't stop. You never stopped."
The room went silent.
Rudy took a sip of the whiskey he'd poured earlier. "I have a high metabolism. High libido is a side effect."
"It's sick!" Erika screamed, tears finally spilling over. "Mom, he treated you like... like an object to be used! Day and night! And you let him! We saw what you did in that bedroom. We saw you agreeing to his demands like it was a contract!"
Eleanor set her glass down with a hard clink. She walked over to the bed, her heels sinking slightly into the plush rug. She towered over her daughter, her silhouette imposing against the dim light.
"I didn't sell myself, and I wasn't a victim," Eleanor said, her tone icy. "I made an investment."
"He's a monster," Eric spat, finding his footing. He stood up, shaky but angry. He pointed a trembling finger at Rudy. "I saw the way he looked at the world. Cold. Detached. He killed those people and then went home to eat dinner like nothing happened. That wasn't human."
"Finally," Rudy muttered. "Took you nineteen years to figure that out."
"Don't mock me!" Eric shouted. "You were a beast in 1989. You didn't care about anything but satisfying your own urges. And Mom... she was just the only one available."
Rudy pushed off the dresser. The casual atmosphere evaporated instantly. The temperature in the room didn't drop, but the pressure spiked. He took one step toward Eric, and the boy flinched, instinctively raising his hands to defend himself.
"Available?" Rudy repeated, his voice low.
He stopped a foot away from his son. Rudy looked exactly as he did in the memories Eric had just lived—ageless, terrifying, and utterly unapologetic.
"I am a GOD. My power doesn't run on solar energy or good vibes. It runs on life. It runs on desire. What you saw wasn't a 'beast' losing control. That was me surviving. Without that drive, without that ruthlessness, I don't fly. I don't heal. And I certainly don't protect this family."
He gestured to the luxury around them—the penthouse, the view of the city, the clothes on Eric's back.
"You think this life is free?" Rudy asked. "You think you get to sit in a tower and look down on the world because you're special? You're here because I fucked your mother in 1989. You're here because I did what had to be done."
"That doesn't make it right," Eric argued, though his voice lacked conviction now. "Mom... you can't be okay with this. You saw what we saw. He was... violent."
Eleanor checked her watch. A diamond-encrusted Patec Filippe.
"He was effective," she stated flatly.
She smoothed her skirt, checking for any wrinkles from their earlier activity in the bathroom. "The 1989 fiscal year was the turning point for modern technology. Rudy provided the raw power and the security. I provided the infrastructure. The nature of our personal relationship was... a necessary catalyst."
"A catalyst?" Erika looked horrified. "You're talking about your relationship like it's a merger!"
"In our world, it is," Eleanor said. She walked to the mirror, adjusting her collar. "You've seen the origin story. You've seen the blood and the fluids. Get over it."
She grabbed her blazer from the chair and shrugged it on. The transformation was complete. The mother was gone, and the CEO was back.
"I have a board meeting in forty minutes. I couldn't go there in time because I missed the flight because of Rudy. So he will drop me off there. The acquisition of the lunar mining rights is finalizing today." She turned to the door, pausing only to glance back at Rudy. "Clean them up. If they're still whining when I get back, I'm cutting their credit limits. I will wait for you downstairs, so come quickly."
"El," Rudy said.
"What?"
"You forgot your briefcase."
Eleanor blinked, then looked at the leather bag by the door. "Right." She picked it up, her expression unreadable. "Handle this, Rudy. They wanted to know the man behind the myth. Make sure they understand the cost."
She opened the door and walked out, her heels clicking rhythmically down the hallway until the sound faded.
Rudy turned back to the twins. The horror of the "VR movie" was still fresh in their minds. The sensory overload of their childhood friend being their biological father.
Rudy sat down on the edge of the bed, right between them.
"So," he said, resting his elbows on his knees. "You saw the first year. The start of the Empire."
He looked at Eric, then Erika.
"Any questions? Or are you done crying about how your parents made you?"
"Why are you suddenly acting like this?" Eric asked. "You don't look like the Rudy I knew!"
"If you treat me like I am some kind of horny monster, I will treat you like you are arrogant kids who need spanking. And if you treat me like I am your friend, I will treat you like one. Now it depends on what you want me to be."
"We… need some time…." they muttered without making eye contact.
"Fair." He got up and left the room after saying, "Take care."
He met Eleanor downstairs and then teleported her to her destination so she could attend the meeting.
