Chapter 1179: The Might of the Overlord
Chapter 1179: The Might of the Overlord
Jane soared into the crimson sky above the palace, her wings beating powerfully against the wind. She glanced down at the ground, fully expecting to see the arrogant human jogging desperately to keep up with the vanguard.
She scoffed and pushed her speed higher. She could not comprehend why he acted so confident and cocky. He was just a mortal with a few flashy tricks, and border wars required true powers.
“Are you experiencing some unexpected turbulence up here, Princess?” a calm voice asked directly behind her ear.
Jane snapped her head around. Rudy hovered casually in the air right next to her. He lacked wings, a jetpack, or any magical propulsion aura. He simply defied gravity with his hands still resting in his pockets.
Confusion twisted Jane’s features. She refused to dignify the impossible sight with an answer.
She snapped her gaze forward and pumped her wings harder, accelerating to her maximum velocity. The rushing wind roared past her ears as she pushed her vampire physiology to its absolute limit.
After a full minute of pushing herself, she risked a glance over her shoulder.
The sky behind her remained empty. A triumphant smirk touched her lips. She had finally left the boastful human in the dust.
She turned her head back to the front. Rudy floated exactly two inches from her nose, flying perfectly backward to match her pace.
“You really need to check your blind spots,” Rudy remarked, suppressing a yawn. “I almost fell asleep waiting for you to catch up.”
Jane halted her flight so abruptly she nearly tumbled out of the sky. She hovered in place, her chest heaving as she pointed an armored finger at his chest.
“How are you doing this?” Jane demanded. “A human physiology cannot possess multiple supernatural abilities! It violates every known law of magic!”
“I tend to rewrite the laws whenever they inconvenience me,” Rudy smiled, adjusting his collar. “Since you are so confident in your ancient vampire supremacy, would you care to make a wager?”
Jane crossed her arms defensively. “What kind of wager?”
“A simple hunting contest,” Rudy proposed, his dark eyes gleaming with predatory amusement. “Whoever secures the most kills on the western front wins. The loser has to do anything the winner demands.”
He leaned a fraction closer, letting the implication hang heavily in the air.
Jane scoffed, though a faint blush crept up her neck. “Why should I agree to a contest I am guaranteed to win? My power is unmatched in this kingdom.”
“Are you genuinely certain you will win?” Rudy tilted his head, feigning profound disappointment. “Or are you just terrified of fetching my slippers and calling me ‘Master’ in front of your whole royal court?”
Her fangs extended fully as her pride flared. She glared at his mocking smile, completely unable to back down from the challenge.
“You will regret those words, human,” Jane hissed. “You have a deal.”
Rudy and Jane flew over the rocky peaks, stopping directly above the western border trench. The landscape below presented a chaotic warzone, with Alucard Coalition forces pouring through the broken defensive line to swarm the OrionHeart Kingdom army. Sounds of clashing steel and magical explosions echoed across the valley.
Jane hovered beside him, her blue eyes narrowing as she watched the invading forces slaughter her front lines. She tightened her grip on her hilt and shot a challenging glare toward Rudy.
A confident smirk touched Rudy’s lips in response, followed by a single nod.
They dove toward the battlefield.
Jane hit the ground first, folding her wings behind her back as she swung her sword to slice through three Alucard soldiers in a single motion. She unleashed a wave of crimson magic to clear a path and immediately launched herself into the densest cluster of enemies.
Rudy landed on the dirt, keeping his hands comfortably in his pockets. A squad of charging vampires raised their weapons and rushed toward him, prompting Rudy to vanish. He utilized his molecular teleportation to materialize directly behind the squad leader.
Pulling his right hand from his pocket, he delivered a casual backhand strike. The impact possessed supernatural strength, snapping the soldier’s spine and sending the body flying through a dozen other attackers like a bowling ball hitting pins.
More Alucard soldiers swarmed his position. Rudy accessed his gravity manipulation, inverting the gravitational pull beneath their feet. A hundred armored enemies shrieked as they floated helplessly upward toward the clouds.
Rudy clenched his fist, causing the gravity to reverse and multiply exponentially. The floating soldiers slammed into the rocky dirt with catastrophic force, cratering the battlefield and flattening the battalion into a bloody paste.
Jane decapitated an enemy commander and glanced over her shoulder to check the score. Her eyes widened at the sight of the crater, forcing her to grit her teeth and push her vampire speed to the maximum limit to win the wager.
Rudy strolled through the chaotic frontline while enemy mages launched a volley of fireballs toward his chest. He tapped into his Cryokinesis to drop the thermal levels in front of him to absolute zero.
The fireballs froze into harmless blocks of ice and shattered on the ground. Raising his palm toward the mages, a roaring stream of white-hot Pyrokinesis erupted from his fingers. The flames consumed the artillery unit, turning their armor and bodies into fine gray ash in less than a second.
Suddenly, a mutated beast ridden by an Alucard general charged directly at Rudy, brandishing razor-tipped claws. Rudy utilized his Fulgurkinesis, summoning a brilliant strike of blue lightning to shoot down from the clouds and directly hit the beast.
The electrical shockwave fried the general and his mount, leaving only smoking ruins behind.
Rudy wanted to expedite the process. He tapped into his Nihilikinesis to shape the void itself, generating multiple spatial rifts around the battlefield. He grabbed a handful of enemy soldiers with his psychokinesis and tossed them into the rifts to erase their existence.
However, the Coalition forces kept advancing. He utilized his superhuman speed to blur across the trenches, delivering melee strikes to shatter bones on impact. Grabbing a swinging halberd, he broke the steel shaft with two fingers and drove his palm into the attacker’s chest.
The resulting force sent a shockwave through the ranks behind the attacker. Obliteration remained the only goal. He combined his aerokinesis with his flight to create a vortex, sucking in dozens of Coalition fighters before tearing them apart with localized spatial cuts.
Jane watched the devastation unfold from across the valley. She realized the scope of the wager required far more effort. She lunged into a fresh wave of Alucard soldiers, determined to close the widening gap in their score.
Nonetheless, it was utterly useless.
