Chapter 1669: Evernight Conquest (8)
Without further hesitation, Eva channeled her abyssal Qi into the pendant, and the crimson glyph immediately ignited.
The next moment, space trembled, and then a familiar, regal voice, authoritative yet carrying a trace of concern hidden beneath its dominance, sounded.
"Disciple."
The moment the voice appeared, even the surrounding space seemed to grow heavier.
Ace remained completely silent, while Eva frowned slightly as the voice continued.
"I hope you haven’t forgotten about your master."
The corner of Eva’s lips twitched, and a hint of helplessness appeared within her eyes before she replied in her usual playful tone, "Master, how could I have forgotten about you? Even if I wanted to, the nightmares from your training won’t let me."
The voice immediately snorted, "Hmph! I guess you are doing just fine since you still remember that much at least."
Eva knew the Dread Duchess’s presence here meant nothing but complexity because she and Ace both knew that the contact with the outside was cut off the moment they entered the Undead Cradle.
So, if the Dread Duchess could contact Eva like this, this could only mean one thing.
With a hint of a sharp glimmer, Eva inquired in a fake-excited tone, "Master, since you contacted me through your Dread Light Pendant, does this mean you are inside the Hunter’s Hunt?"
The crimson pendant flickered brighter, and then the Dread Duchess spoke again, "Well, isn’t it obvious? Since you can guess this much, I don’t need to explain to you why I’ve been summoned here."
Eva’s expression instantly became innocent as she probed, "Oh? What great news."
"Hmph, why do I have a feeling that you’re not so happy at all?" The Dread Duchess joked before her voice turned cold, "Anyway, the situation of the Hunter’s Hunt has completely changed, and danger lurks everywhere. The Corpse Clan is not an easy opponent to deal with.
"Not only are you not equipped to deal with the Undead Race yet, but it is no longer a trial, but a war to eliminate the Corpse Clan. That’s why I and other Evernight Dukes present within the Abyssal Plains have all been summoned here to assume command of the battlefronts.
"Right now, the battle preparations are still at an early stage, but once it begins, it’ll be chaos everywhere, and we have no idea just how much strength the Corpse Clan has been hiding throughout the years.
"That’s why Lord Midnight Duke had allowed us to keep our disciples by our side so you guys can gain more experience while not suffering any mortal danger, for you are the future of the Evernight Council.
"Moreover, with me here, you can gain more rewards and contribute greatly to the Evernight Council, while I can also teach you more since war is a great training group for our legacy. So, I want you to come to the first battlefront with Nomad as quickly as possible."
Ace remained standing nearby, completely silent and unnoticed, yet his eyes subtly flickered the moment the Dread Duchess mentioned ’Nomad,’ while the presence of the Dread Duchess and other Evernight Dukes wasn’t out of the ordinary for him.
After all, if the Evernight Council were serious about calming the Undead Cradle, they needed more than the trial participants and some Grade Abyssal Lords, so they’d naturally call their most terrifying fighters, the Evernight Dukes!
Eva also noticed this and gave Ace a peculiar look before speaking through their connection.
"She doesn’t know about Nomad, it seemed."
"Or she knows but doesn’t have the details so she might be testing you so you can give her more information," Ace replied curtly.
Eva nodded in understanding before she cluelessly replied to the Dread Duchess, "Nomad? But he’s not with me, master. At the start of the trial, we were separated, and I haven’t been able to find him. In fact, I was looking for him just when that scary owl appeared, and everything went haywire!"
Ace almost sneered when he heard that, while the Dread Duchess felt Eva was too good at exaggerating, but believed her explanation about Nomad nonetheless.
"Don’t need to pretend to be scared." Dread Duchess retorted before she stated in a commanding tone, "Alright, we’ll figure out Nomad’s position eventually. Right now, I want you to quickly report here."
Eva frowned slightly, and she was about to make an excuse when Ace’s stern voice sounded, "You should go. There is no need to compromise the identity that you’ve cultivated for so long. Since the Dread Duchess is here and in command of this war, things have changed.
"Furthermore, if you’re together with the Dread Duchess, we can learn more about that floating island as well as where the passage that leads towards the Evernight Sanctuary is and how it works."
Eva’s frown deepened; she didn’t like Ace’s suggestion at all, since they were finally going to work together, and, truthfully, she didn’t care about her identity as the Evil Diva.
But she didn’t let her personal feelings cloud her judgment because she knew Ace wasn’t wrong. After all, trying to infiltrate the Evernight Sanctuary without any prior knowledge was far more dangerous than remaining by the Dread Duchess’s side and exploiting her information.
With pursed lips, she replied in a fake solemn tone, "Alright, I’m on my way, master."
But at that moment, her eyes flashed brightly as she looked at Ace, and the latter instantly felt she was up to something again.
She added with a conniving smile, "Oh, and master, I’ve picked up a good subordinate here, can I bring him with me?"
Ace’s expression stiffened, while the Dread Duchess seemed surprised on the other side as well.
"Subordinate? Someone worthy to be the Evil Diva’s subordinate? How intriguing. Bring him along." The Dread Duchess agreed readily with a hint of dangerous intent underlying her voice.
Afterward, the pendant went dormant again and vanished just as it had appeared around Eva’s neck.
Ace smiled wryly as he asked, "Just what are you doing?"
Eva snickered as she said matter-of-factly, "Since we’re delaying this, you have nothing else to do, so just be obedient and follow me!"
