Chapter 1671: The Right to Leave
Chapter 1671: The Right to Leave
Eva was the first one to break the silence as she looked at the impassive Dread Duchess with a hint of a smile and greeted mischievously, "Master, you really can’t live without me, huh?’
Dread Duchess was slightly astounded, not because of the way Eva spoke with her, but because she was speaking like this in front of a stranger, and the only reason she would do so was that she trusted this stranger enough.
Usually, Eva would only behave so carefree in front of her three maids, which, by the way, she had left behind as far as the Dread Duchess knows, but in truth, those three were not just Eva’s maids but her thief acolytes, and right now within Eva’s Ring of Endearment!
The other person she had shown this kind of attitude to was Nomad, and now she was trusting this unknown participant whom she had only met a day ago, which made Dread Duchess curious and slightly doubtful.
But Ace also played his part well, acting in shock and surprise when Eva spoke to the Dread Duchess like that, since if he didn’t, the Dread Duchess would be more suspicious.
Inwardly, he could only blame Eva for being so careless, or for simply no longer caring about the consequences of her actions.
However, Eva was sharp enough to have thought of this already, but she didn’t try to put up a façade in front of Dread Duchess because she could manipulate the situation and take the initiative, as she had her own reasons.
Dread Duchess spoke with reproach as her aura intensified slightly, "Rude disciple, you should behave in front of a guest!"
Eva’s eyes curved slightly as if smiling without any hint of fear before she innocently spoke, "What guest master? This is a subordinate I’ve recruited, and he’s absolutely loyal, so you don’t need to care about him. He won’t dare to spread rumors!"
Ace felt slightly indigent, but he knew Eva was only messing around with him right now, or probably taking revenge for not taking her into the Undead Boundary, so he could only endure in front of his wife and act like a real subordinate.
Dread Duchess’s eyes flickered with genuine surprise as she finally took a closer look at the burly abyssal winged demon, his disciple robes, and, finally, the demonic sword at his waist.
"You are a sword cultivator of the Weaponized Mystic Haven?" She questioned coldly with an intimidating aura.
Ace knew he couldn’t show any opening and respectfully replied with a deep bow, "Greetings, Your Highness! " I’m Kharon Veyth, your highness. I was an outer circle disciple of the Weaponized Mystic Haven."
Dread Duchess frowned slightly as she impassively inquired, "You were?"
Ace had already decided what to tell Dread Duchess beforehand and replied, "Yes, your highness! I’m no longer with the Weaponized Mystic Haven because they tried to kill me, and I was constantly bullied in the sect. If not for Mistress Evil Diva’s saving grace, I would’ve been dead. I owe her my life, and I’ll repay her favor till the day I die!"
"Impressive!" Eva couldn’t help but snicker secretly at Ace’s acting, which made the latter slightly flustered.
The Dread Duchess’s eyes narrowed, knowing that killing each other in the Evernight Trial was allowed by the Council this time, and she wouldn’t be about the death of some ordinary disciple of the Weaponized Mystic Haven.
But what she couldn’t wrap her head around was why her extraordinary disciple would bother to save him, let alone accept him as a subordinate, since he would be nothing but a burden.
After all, the Evil Diva’s prestige and her status as the Dread’s direct disciple were enough to recruit even the core disciple of the Weaponized Mystic Haven, let alone an outer disciple.
"What are you up to?" Dread Duchess spoke to Eva in a stern tone through spirit transmission.
Eva smiled behind her veil ambiguously before she used the spirit transmission to reply, "Hehe, master, you must trust me. This Kharon Veyth isn’t ordinary at all. In fact, those Weaponized Mystic Haven’s idiots have been cultivating fools while ignoring the real genius among them. Once they find out what they’ve chased away, they’ll probably cough up blood in anger!"
The Dread Duchess was astounded by Eva’s evaluation of Kharon, for even she couldn’t detect anything extraordinary about him except for that slightly interesting Demonic Sword. But even that sword was nothing more than an ordinary treasure to an Evernight Duke!
But given how confident Eva was, even Dread Duchess’s interest was piqued, and she trusted her disciple’s judgment and no longer questioned her decision.
She spoke coldly out loud this time, "Alright, I’ll allow him to be by your side. But you both should know it isn’t easy to leave the Weaponized Mystic Haven. If he really wanted to nullify his status as the Weaponized Mystic Haven, he had to withstand three full-power attacks from someone above his realm.
"Only then can he leave, albeit he needs to survive first to enjoy his freedom. Moreover, in the history of the Weaponized Mystic Haven, no one has survived this ’right to leave’.
"This is the only way to safely leave the Weaponized Mystic Haven, for if you tried to simply flee, they would declare you a traitor and issue a kill warrant on your head.
"At that time, even the Evernight Council won’t interfere because the Weaponized Mystic Haven has the Mystic King. Although the Evernight Council doesn’t fear the Mystic King, it is still not worth making an enemy of the Abyssal King for an outer-circle disciple. Even a core disciple won’t move the Evernight Council unless it is a Mystic Grand Lord!"
Eva was astounded because Ace hadn’t told her about this ’right to leave’ and glanced at him, but when she felt Ace’s nonchalant attitude behind Kharon’s pale face, she inwardly smiled, instantly understanding that Ace didn’t care about this right to leave at all.
Moreover, with Ace’s abilities, not to mention taking three strikes from an Abyssal Lord, he might be able to fight them on equal terms.
Not to mention, they were still within the Evernight Trial, and dealing with the Weaponized Mystic Haven would depend on whether ’Kharon’ survived till then.
"I understand, Your Highness. But I’m determined to leave the Weaponized Mystic Haven and follow Mistress Evil Diva. Even if I die, I’ll die trying to do the thing I want!" Kharon declared despite the visible fear on his face.
The Dread Duchess’s eyes flickered with a hint of approval as she felt this guy might be ordinary; his resolve was worth admiration.
The Dread Duchess nodded with a hint of satisfaction as she stated, "Very well, I’ll allow you to serve my disciple, and if you show your worth in this war, I’ll even bestow upon you a fortune which will increase your survival chances!"
