Chapter 1721: What about the Corpse Clan? (2)

Chapter 1721: What about the Corpse Clan? (2)

After comprehending the current situation, the Corpse Governor’s despair slowly faded, and his eyes began to shine.

"So that’s why..." A faint smile appeared on his corpse-like face. "Although that anomaly may have caused an inconvenience, it was still mind-turning even for Abyssal Kings. So, those bastards from the Evernight Councils decided to abandon the Undead Cradle at the first chance they got.

"Moreover, I got a free pass at becoming the Abyssal King, and I’m probably the only Abyssal King in the history of the world who didn’t encounter an Abyssal King Realm’s Abyssal Ordeal!"

Suddenly, his King’s Might quietly spread through the heavens, and the Corpse Governor suddenly laughed.

"Hahahaha..."

The laughter wasn’t loud, but it contained an indescribable mixture of relief, disbelief, and excitement.

"The Evernight Council...was scared away."

But the instant, his eyes narrowed.

"And whatever frightened them..." His voice slowly became solemn, "...must be far more terrifying than anything they expected to encounter."

For the first time since the Supreme Abyssal Ordeal retreated, the Corpse Governor felt hope, and not hope that he would survive, but hope that his race might finally have a future.

On the other hand, the Corpse Clan members slowly noticed the same thing.

The Evernight forces had disappeared.

At first, they couldn’t believe it.

"Where did they go?"

"I can’t sense them anymore. So, they’re not hiding!"

"The Evernight Dukes..."

"They’re gone!"

"Their army is gone!"

Then someone finally shouted.

"Their headquarters just vanished from the battlefield! They fled!"

Silence lasted for a moment.

Then...

"THE EVERNIGHT COUNCIL RETREATED!"

"THEY RAN!"

"OUR GOVERNOR SCARED THEM AWAY!"

The entire Corpse Clan erupted as countless corpse flames burned wildly. Some Corpse Clan members laughed, some cried, and some knelt toward the sky.

Not only had their Governor become an Abyssal King, but the Evernight Council had fled. To the ordinary Corpse Clan members, there could only be one explanation: their new King had frightened them away.

"Our King is invincible!"

"Long live the Corpse King!"

"The Evernight Council fled before our King!"

"WE HAVE A KING!"

The despair that had filled the battlefield moments earlier rapidly transformed into excitement.

But Belfast, the Corpse Commanders, and Vice Commanders remained silent as they looked toward the direction where the Realmbreaker Conquest Ark had vanished.

Their expressions were complicated because they understood that the Evernight Council wasn’t afraid of their newly born King.

Instead, they had witnessed the same impossible scene, and they knew something else had happened, something they couldn’t understand, and t even their new King seemed unable to understand.

Nonetheless, the point was, they had survived, and their Governor had become a true Abyssal King; that alone was enough.

The First Commander slowly looked toward the sky; there, the Corpse Governor still stood silently while his King’s Might had completely stabilized.

His presence was no longer comparable to that of a Half-Abyssal King, for he was a genuine Abyssal King.

The First Commander’s eyes flared with mirth, and he immediately moved forward. The Second Commander and Belfast followed, and then the remaining Corpse Vice Commanders.

They approached the Corpse Governor before simultaneously kneeling.

"We greet the Corpse King!"

"Congratulations, Your Majesty!"

The voices reverberated throughout the ruined battlefield, and the Corpse Governor’s body slightly trembled.

He slowly lowered his head; only then did he seem to return from his thoughts, and his gaze swept across the kneeling Belfast, Corpse Commanders, Vice Commanders, and then across the countless surviving members of his race.

His expression became extremely complicated as he had wanted revenge, wanted to die, and wanted to drag the Evernight Council into hell alongside him. But instead, he had become an Abyssal King, and his enemies had fled.

He slowly sighed.

"Although we survived..." His voice became solemn, "...we cannot ignore the anomaly of the Abyssal Ordeal either, especially since even the Evernight Council fled without any intention of investigating it."

The cheering immediately quieted while the Corpse Governor continued.

"I don’t know what caused it. I don’t know what exists within this realm, and I don’t know why the Evernight Council fled."

His eyes swept across the endless ruins.

"But one thing is certain. We should leave."

The First Commander immediately nodded. "Yes, Your Majesty."

The Corpse Governor looked toward the countless Corpse Clan members.

"Gather everyone. We will leave the Undead Cradle."

Belfast and the Corpse Commanders exchanged glances, fear in their eyes, but also excitement: for countless generations, the Undead Cradle had been their sacred birthplace, their sanctuary, their inheritance, and their home.

But now they finally understood the truth. It had also been their cage, and for the first time, that cage had opened.

Belfast lowered his head. "This subordinate understands!"

The First and Second Commanders immediately followed, "We shall gather every surviving clansman!"

The Vice Commanders also obeyed, "Yes, Your Majesty!"

They quickly dispersed, and the Corpse Governor watched them leave with a complicated expression appearing within his hollow eyes.

He had finally become an Abyssal King, and he should have been celebrating, yet instead, he was preparing to flee his birthplace. Still, perhaps this was exactly what his race needed, for the Corpse Clan had suffered for too long, and it was time for them to see the outside Abyss.

Just when the Corpse Governor was about to descend, suddenly, his body froze, and slowly, he raised his head.

The Abyssal Ordeal was gone, the two Sacred Moons had completely disappeared, and the sky had returned to normal, yet something remained. Something that had been hidden beneath the overwhelming manifestation of the Ordeal.

A gigantic black silhouette remained high above the heavens.

A devilish owl with its enormous wings stretched across the sky while its pitch-black body swallowed the surrounding light, and upon its colossal body, two words remained.

"SKY STEALER!"

The Corpse Governor’s eyes trembled, and a hint of terror flashed through them because, for an instant, the strange retreat of the Abyssal Ordeal suddenly returned to his mind.

The reason the Supreme Abyssal Ordeal had retreated, the Evernight Council’s sudden escape, and now the Sky Stealer’s symbol still remained above the Undead Cradle.

The Corpse Governor’s newly born King’s senses instinctively swept toward it. But the moment he tried to investigate, his soul suddenly trembled, and he immediately stopped.

"..."

Silence reigned as he stared at the devilish owl for several breaths, and then slowly, he looked away, for he didn’t dare continue.

After all, some things were better left unknown because if the Evernight Kings had fled because of something they couldn’t understand, he had no intention of recklessly investigating it immediately after becoming an Abyssal King.

He had already survived one impossible miracle, so he wasn’t going to gamble his newly obtained life against another.

The Corpse Governor slowly closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, the resentment within them had become far more complicated.

"The Sky Stealer..." He muttered.

Just a few moments ago, he had hated that name since he was sure that the being was the one who had stolen the Undead Boundary and robbed the Corpse Clan of its greatest protection.

It was the enemy he had sworn to kill, but now, he couldn’t even bring himself to think about revenge. Not because his hatred had disappeared, but rather because there were now far more important things.

His race, their survival, their future, and the terrifying mystery hidden within the Undead Cradle.

The Corpse Governor turned around.

"Let’s go." His voice was calm.

The Corpse Clan members immediately began moving, and behind him, countless surviving Corpse Clan cultivators gathered together. Some were injured, some had lost their bodies, and some had lost their companions.

But all of them looked toward the distant exit with complicated expressions as they were finally leaving the cage that had imprisoned their race for countless generations, and now it was finally opening.

The Corpse Governor glanced toward the direction where the Realmbreaker Conquest Ark had disappeared, and his hollow eyes became cold.

"The Evernight Council..." His voice was filled with determination. "We will meet again. And next time..."

A terrifying King’s Might slowly spread from his body. "...it won’t be this easy to destroy my race."

His gaze swept across his surviving clansmen; they had lost almost everything, but they had also gained something they had never possessed before: a King, a future, and freedom.

The Corpse Governor turned around and disappeared into the darkness, and behind him, the Corpse Clan followed.

The ancient cage was finally abandoned, and for the first time in countless generations, the Corpse Clan stepped toward the unknown Abyss.

Not as prisoners or remnants, but as a race with a newly born Corpse King leading them toward a future no one could predict!
