Chapter 1278 Bargain
Chapter 1278: Chapter 1278 Bargain
Ross had no intention of wasting his second chance at life.
Being lazy had never been part of his personality.
Whether in his previous life or this one, he believed that opportunities only came to those willing to seek them out.
Since he had given him another chance to enjoy life, he intended to enjoy every moment of it while becoming stronger along the way.
Remaining cooped up inside his broken courtyard would accomplish nothing.
After changing into a clean set of clothes, Ross calmly stepped outside and began strolling through the bustling streets of the city.
The city was lively as always.
Street vendors loudly advertised their goods, children chased one another through the alleys, and cultivators carrying swords walked proudly through the crowds.
Merchants haggled with customers while restaurants overflowed with patrons enjoying food and wine.
Ross simply observed everything with quiet curiosity.
Although he had inherited a whole new set of memories, seeing the city with his own eyes made the experience feel completely different.
His appearance, however, quickly became the center of attention.
People couldn’t help but turn their heads as he walked past.
“What a handsome young man!”
“I’ve never seen someone so good-looking.”
“Look at his face. It’s like he walked straight out of a painting.”
Several young women stole curious glances at him, some even blushing before whispering among themselves.
Not everyone was impressed, however.
A middle-aged man snorted dismissively.
“Bah! What’s the use of being handsome? He’s nothing but trash.”
Another passerby nodded in agreement.
“Exactly. A pretty face won’t help you survive in the cultivation world.”
Someone nearby recognized him immediately.
“I know him.”
The crowd’s attention shifted toward the speaker.
“His name is Jiang Chen. He’s the young master of the Jiang Family from Azure River Province. His family had high hopes for him and sent him here to join the Heavenly Sword Sect.”
The speaker sighed before continuing.
“Unfortunately, when the entrance examinations were held, everyone discovered the truth.”
“He possesses no spiritual root whatsoever.”
“None.”
“He can’t cultivate.”
“His body has absolutely no talent for cultivation, and he doesn’t possess any outstanding skills either.”
“What happened after that was truly pitiful.”
“He couldn’t bear the humiliation. The once-proud young master fell into despair, spending his days gambling away his family’s money and drowning himself in alcohol.”
The man spat onto the ground in contempt.
“A complete waste.”
Several people nodded in agreement.
“What a shame.”
“Such a handsome face, yet such worthless talent.”
“In this world, strength is everything. Good looks won’t protect you.”
Despite the harsh words, people’s eyes continued to drift toward Ross.
After all, Jiang Chen’s appearance was simply too extraordinary.
Even among countless cultivators blessed with refined features, he stood out effortlessly.
His face possessed a rare, almost unreal perfection, while his calm expression and confident bearing only made him appear even more attractive.
He looked less like an ordinary young master and more like an immortal who had wandered into the mortal world.
Ross naturally heard every whisper and every insult.
Yet he showed no sign of anger.
Instead, the corners of his lips curled into a faint smile.
“Interesting…”
The more people underestimated him now…
The greater their shock would be when he eventually rose to stand above them all.
Ross heard every word the crowd whispered, yet he merely smiled.
In truth, he found the situation rather amusing.
His reputation had followed him into this new body, though unfortunately it wasn’t the kind most people would envy.
To the citizens of Radiant Sky City, Jiang Chen was known as a handsome young master with no talent for cultivation, a fallen genius who had squandered his fortune on gambling and alcohol.
Still, a reputation was a reputation.
And Ross knew better than anyone that it could be changed.
He continued strolling through the bustling streets, leisurely taking in the sights and sounds of the city.
Before long, his feet carried him to one of the busiest establishments in Radiant Sky City.
The Golden Fortune Gambling House.
Its grand entrance was decorated with luxurious red pillars and golden carvings, while loud cheers and laughter constantly echoed from inside.
Rich merchants, rogue cultivators, wandering adventurers, and wealthy young masters came and went through its doors, each hoping fortune would smile upon them.
Unfortunately for most of them…
Fortune rarely did.
Ross stopped before the entrance and looked up at the enormous sign hanging above the building.
“So this is where the fool buried most of his fortune…”
A faint smile appeared on his face.
“If this is where he lost everything…”
“…then this is where I’ll win it all back.”
Without another thought, he stepped inside.
The bustling gambling hall fell noticeably quieter.
Dozens of eyes immediately shifted toward him.
Unlike the people outside, however, the gamblers didn’t greet him with ridicule.
Instead…
Many of them smiled.
Some smiled with amusement.
Others with greed.
To them, Ross wasn’t a disgraced young master.
He was a walking money bag.
“The fool is back.”
“I honestly didn’t think he’d show his face again.”
“Didn’t he lose almost everything already?”
“I heard he can barely afford meals these days, much less gamble.”
“Nah,” another man chuckled while swirling the wine in his cup. “He’s still the young master of a wealthy family. His relatives probably sent him another allowance.”
“Good.”
“I’ve been hoping he’d return.”
“He always loses.”
The gamblers laughed quietly among themselves.
Ross heard every single whisper.
With his divine sense, conversations occurring throughout the entire gambling hall entered his ears as clearly as if the speakers were standing beside him.
He even noticed the managers watching him from the upper floor.
Their eyes lit up the instant they recognized him.
To them, Ross wasn’t a customer.
He was prey.
Their gazes resembled hungry wolves staring at a fat sheep that had willingly wandered back into their den.
One of the managers rubbed his hands together and grinned.
“Looks like our biggest donor has returned.”
“Prepare our finest tables.”
“And make sure someone keeps an eye on him.”
“If he’s carrying money today…”
“We’ll make sure he leaves with empty pockets again.”
Ross caught every word.
Instead of becoming angry, the smile on his face only widened.
“They still think I’m the same Jiang Chen…”
He glanced around the lavish gambling hall before letting out a quiet chuckle.
“Good.”
“The more they underestimate me…”
“…the more satisfying it’ll be when I empty every last coin from this place.”
