Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 351: World Devourer Ancestor

Chapter 351: World Devourer Ancestor

Liora had little time to pay attention to the humanoid face.

As she watched the gray substances come closer, her familiarity with them let her know that she could not let them come into contact with her soul.

Instantly, the crimson saber sitting beside her flashed and settled in her right hand.

Clasping it tightly, she swung it lightly above her head, cutting off the gray substances and shielding herself from their corrosive power.

Her efforts were effective, but at the same time, were not.

They were said to be effective because the corruptive substances were indeed stopped before they could touch her.

However, they were also ineffective because the gray substances proved endless.

As they missed their target, they quickly turned translucent and rushed back towards the gate, before dripping down once again.

Liora inwardly frowned, but she didn’t show anything on the surface.

While swinging her Manifestation to defend against the rain of Nothingness, she raised her head and stared at the enormous face squirming across the gate.

She didn’t ask any meaningless questions like "Who are you?" or "Why are you targeting me?", as she already had the answer.

Instead, she asked a completely different question.

"I’m quite curious. Since you wish to take over my body, your current state should not be very good. Otherwise, there would be no need."

"Are you dead and want to be reborn into the bodies of your descendants? Or is this a way to get out of trouble? Perhaps to escape a seal?"

Liora’s questions sounded outlandish.

Especially when she used the word "descendants", it seemed as if she had gone crazy.

After all, it was a known fact that Devils had no parents.

If one had to say, their parent was the Will of the Demon World, and they were all born under its power.

Yet, since Liora dared to use this term right now, it was apparent that she would not be wrong.

Hearing her questions, the humanoid face etched across the True Spirit Gate stopped chuckling for a moment.

However, it quickly regained its composure and continued laughing eerily.

Just when Liora thought that it would choose to ignore her, a voice echoed directly inside her mind.

"Since you know my identity, what’s the point of resisting?"

"Why don’t you surrender and let me take over your body? I promise: once I recover my strength, I will help you revive."

"Perhaps, I can even let you serve as my subordinate."

The voice of the face was inexplicable.

It sounded like an overlap of thousands of people, young but also old, male yet female.

Hearing its proposal, Liora snorted inwardly.

However, she neither agreed nor refused. Rather, she continued on her previous line of questioning.

"What was your strength before you died? Archdevil? Ancient Devil?"

"Or perhaps even stronger...?", she asked, as crimson lights flashed and created a wall of defense above her head.

Although the face was communicating with her, the opponent did not stop their attacks.

In fact, their attacks became even more threatening, as if they wished to submerge Liora in their power.

"Does it matter, my child?"

"I used to be an Archdevil at my peak."

"However, you should have personally witnessed the power of my bloodline."

"I don’t want to boast, but my strength should be the strongest among all Archdevils. I can even compete with some Ancient Devils."

The conversation between Liora and the unknown person made the latter’s identity clear and confirmed her guesses.

The words previously used, descendant and bloodline, cleared up any confusion.

This unknown person, living as a parasite in Liora’s True Spirit Gate, was actually none other than the ancestor of the World Devourer bloodline.

Serving as its source and possessing control over their bloodline, they were now trying to take over Liora’s body!

They tried to revive through her!

While the two were communicating, time slowly passed.

It was unknown if the time within this void matched the time in the outside world, but Liora could sense that almost half an hour had gone by.

As time went by, the World Devourer ancestor gradually got the upper hand in their confrontation.

More and more power of Nothingness dripped down like ink, gradually wiping out most of Liora’s breathing space.

This was to be expected.

While fighting here, Liora had to consume the limited power of her own soul.

On the other hand, the World Devourer ancestor seemed to possess an unlimited amount of energy. The power of Nothingness was used without any restriction, as if they were the personification of the Land of Nothingness.

It was only because of her Manifestation, which directly doubled her strength while in this void, that Liora was able to compete with them for so long.

Unfortunately, as more and more of her energy was consumed, she found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the incoming soul attacks.

Just as Liora was starting to feel anxious, though, wondering whether she should activate her trump card, the frown on her face disappeared, and her tense body relaxed.

She sensed that the change she had been waiting for had finally come.

Since Liora sensed it, the World Devourer ancestor was also the same.

The laughing face turned into one of fear and anger, as its attacks towards Liora grew even more intense.

The power of Nothingness turned into a dense miasma and fell down like a gray curtain, wanting to wipe out Liora completely.

Unfortunately, it was already too late.

Just when the curtain was about to cover Liora and injure her, the face on the True Spirit Gate suddenly contorted.

A look of pain and struggle flashed across its face before it melted away and merged with the miasma covering the door.

The same was true for the power trying to injure Liora.

In an instant, it turned back into its master and reintegrated with the miasma.

Seeing this and feeling the World Devourer ancestor falling into slumber, Liora couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Her gamble had paid off!

Although she had not managed to expel this parasite, she had ultimately won this battle. Or at least, she had forced the other party to retreat for now.

Unfortunately, Liora had no time to celebrate her victory. The moment the World Devourer ancestor disappeared, two waves of high-level powers washed over her body.

Shockingly, one threat had vanished, but another one had arrived not long after!
