Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 393: Plague

Chapter 393: Plague

While Liora was dealing with the aftermath of the previous encounter, time didn’t stop to wait for her.

Coupled with the time she had spent wandering mindlessly through the maze, it gave more than enough time for the rest of the Greater Devils to act.

In one of the rooms closely resembling the one that Liora and Alpha had just been in, a pale man was manipulating more than a dozen skeletons to surround a figure covered in a layer of earth.

The golem-looking Devil was furious as he stared at his opponent.

Glancing at his rapidly cracking body and then at the pale man looking at him with disdain, the Earth Devil was truly furious.

"Plague Devil, do you wish to become the Universe Chamber of Commerce’s enemy?"

"Don’t forget! You have signed a Devil Contract!"

"You can’t kill me! Otherwise, you’ll also die!", the Earth Devil yelled, trying to use the name of the Universe Chamber of Commerce to intimidate his opponent.

Unfortunately, the so-called Plague Devil only paused for a brief moment.

When his eyes landed on the formation at a corner of the room, and he recalled his earlier experiences, his hesitation quickly vanished.

He might not have dared to offend the Universe Chamber of Commerce in the past.

But with a mountain of treasures that could enhance his strength piled in front of him, any fear he might have had disappeared.

"Surrender!"

"As long as you’re willing to let me plant a curse in your soul and become my subordinate, I can let you live!", the Plague Devil yelled back, though he continued to control the undead to attack his enemy.

The opponent groaned but did not respond. He showed a surprising amount of resolve, as if he would not surrender even if he were to die.

Unfortunately, this determination hardly mattered.

Only a few seconds later, his earth body began to crack under the multiple blows of the undead.

Although the Earth Devil was stronger than the Tree Devil whom Liora had encountered, the number of the undead besieging him was also greater.

Moreover, although the Plague Devil seemed to be standing on the side and doing nothing, countless invisible toxins emerged from his body and secretly attacked his opponent.

Some of them targeted the Earth Devil’s physical body and slowed down his movements, while others dug into his soul and made him experience the pain of having his soul torn apart.

Before long, the Earth Devil could no longer hold on.

The fractures in his body grew increasingly bigger, causing big chunks of it to drop onto the ground, while his soul was left shrouded in an eerie black mist.

Sensing that his death was gradually approaching, the previous resolve in Earth Devil’s mind gradually faded away.

Just when his mind was beginning to get confused, he finally uttered something for the first time since the battle began.

"I surrender! Don’t kill me!"

"I can enter the formation and bring you the treasures inside!", the Earth Devil stated, having lost his previous determination to resist.

As soon as his words fell, the undead around him stopped attacking.

The black mist in his soul disappeared, as a happy smile appeared on the Plague Devil’s pale face.

"Don’t resist! Allow me to plant a Curse in your soul.", he chuckled.

Though the Earth Devil was uncomfortable, he could only do as told and remain still.

Soon, a black mark had formed on his soul.

Not only could the Plague Devil control his life and death through this mark, but he could also control it to torture him with just a thought.

"Go! Make sure to bring the items inside.", the Plague Devil ordered coldly without giving the Earth Devil a chance to recover.

No matter how unwilling the Earth Devil was, there was nothing he could do.

After bowing respectfully, he walked into the demi-plane.

The Plague Devil did not follow him. He remained outside, protected by the army of undead.

Subconsciously, he couldn’t help but imagine his bright future.

"I didn’t expect that the Universe Chamber of Commerce had discovered such a place."

"If it hadn’t been for a coincidence, I would have been unaware that this maze is filled with precious treasures.", he whispered, glancing at the bronze, fragmented sword in his hand from the corner of his eye.

This sword was the spoils of battle he had obtained earlier.

Although it was broken and in a bad state, the Plague Devil could sense an unimaginable power lurking inside of it.

It was exactly the experience of obtaining the sword that made him turn against the Universe Chamber of Commerce.

The Plague Devil could feel that, as long as he obtained enough treasures, he would have nothing to fear even when facing an Archdevil.

If he succeeded, he wouldn’t care about the Universe Chamber of Commerce.

The Plague Devil continued daydreaming.

He imagined himself controlling a large army of Greater Devil undead, as well as advancing and becoming an Archdevil.

However, just when it seemed that he would continue doing so until the Earth Devil left the formation, his expression suddenly changed.

A trace of panic flashed across his eyes, followed by anger.

"Who?!", he turned towards the room’s entrance and yelled as a cloud of black mist shot out.

There seemed to be nothing in its trajectory at first. But the moment the mist reached the area near the entrance, it suddenly parted into two.

The space where that happened squirmed for a brief moment, and two figures suddenly emerged.

One was a woman with red hair and fiery red eyes, and the other one was a woman with brown hair and cold amber eyes.

Obviously, these were Liora and Alpha, respectively. Having followed the clues on the map, they had arrived here.

The Plague Devil immediately recognized them.

After all, the fight he had witnessed in the Universe Chamber of Commerce was still fresh in his mind.

Although he was also at the True Spirit stage, just like Liora, he had no confidence in dealing with her.

Many thoughts raced through his mind, but unwilling to fight against her, he tried to think of ways to throw her off and get her to leave.

Unfortunately, the formation behind him moved before he could think of anything.

Its surface rippled faintly, and the next moment, the Earth Devil walked out.

He held a leather book in his hands, and excitement was written all over his face as he walked with quick steps.

"My Lord! I’ve found it!"

"It’s an Archdevil Technique!", he spoke up loudly, only for his words to stop halfway through.

Glancing at the recently-arrived Liora and then at the Plague Devil, who looked to be on guard against her, he seemed to have realized something and instantly shut his mouth.

However, it was already too late.

A look of anger appeared on the Plague Devil’s face, and he cursed the Earth Devil for his idiocy, but he could only take action.

Instantly, the undead around him pounced on Liora like a group of wolves.

At the same time, a dense mist shot out of his body and spread, forming a domain that engulfed both Alpha and Liora’s figures.
