Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 472: Realization

Chapter 472: Realization

Much to the Hollow Ancestor’s shock and to Liora’s faint surprise, her side of the scale nearly broke apart by her own weight.

It was obvious that the True Balance, and by extension, the Demon World, had judged her "weight" to be far greater than that of the Hollow Ancestor.

Liora was able to guess the reason, especially as she recalled the earlier force that had washed over her body.

However, the Hollow Ancestor could not.

He nearly flew into a panic.

"Damn it! Is this person the clone of a Princess of the Demon World?"

This was the first thought that came to mind. But quickly, he shook his head.

If Liora were truly that powerful, he would not be standing here alive.

Moreover, he would have never been able to accomplish his plans through her.

Whether it was rationally or emotionally, the Hollow Ancestor believed there was some other, more plausible reason.

Maybe True Balance had malfunctioned, or maybe... The Hollow Ancestor’s eyes lit up upon that thought.

Liora did not know what he was thinking, though she could roughly guess his suspicions.

She didn’t attempt to communicate with him, let alone give him an explanation.

Her mind drifted to the real reason why the Demon World had judged her weight—or more accurately, her worth—to be higher than that of an Ancient Devil.

"The bloodline I created is powerful but not so valuable. The same is true for the concepts I’ve comprehended."

"Although the Snake of Time is a precious technique and can briefly give me the ability to contend against Ancient Devils, its usefulness will grow smaller once I advance and become an actual Ancient Devil."

Soon, an answer appeared in Liora’s mind:

It was the Evolution System! Only this thing could tilt the scale so dramatically.

Though she didn’t know if the Demon World had detected the true source behind the System or had merely sensed a tiny part of its power, everything pointed to this being the real culprit behind this sudden change.

Countless thoughts raced through her mind, but in reality, not much time had passed.

As she snapped back, Liora pushed this matter aside for the time being and focused on the matter at hand.

Her eyes briefly landed on the Hollow Ancestor before drifting towards the giant scale trembling beneath her feet.

The moment their respective weights were judged, and she emerged victorious in their silent confrontation, Liora felt herself become one with the scale.

As long as she wanted, she could use this treasure to extract things from her opponent.

Only after the two had reached an equilibrium would its invincible power disperse.

The chance to plunder the possessions of an Ancient Devil made Liora excited.

Shortly after, however, she couldn’t help but frown.

She knew that once the two reached balance, the Hollow Ancestor would break free.

At that time, he would surely hunt her down.

Having lost the support of the Four Elements Devil, she would be unable to offer any resistance.

In a certain sense, the moment she made a decision and they left the scale, would likely mean her death.

If she wanted to survive, Liora would either have to weaken her opponent significantly, get stronger, or inflict unbearable short-term damage that rendered him unable to chase her.

Most likely, she needed to do all of the above.

Thinking of this, Liora cast a glance at the Hollow Ancestor. She immediately noticed that although the other party was surprised at first, he didn’t show any despair.

Clearly, he had also understood what was happening and thus did not panic.

Liora suppressed her worries. Her consciousness communicated with True Balance, and all the possessions of the Hollow Ancestor appeared before her eyes.

The concepts he had comprehended and had just plundered, the bloodline he had created and which he had become the source of, his status as a Ruler of a Demon Layer...

Even his timeline could be found among them.

Liora was far from reaching the Ancient Devil stage and therefore did not understand its true value.

However, judging from the earlier exchange between the two Ancient Devils and the final fate of the Four Elements Devil, she could sense its importance.

Her gaze deepened.

Communicating with the True Balance scale, she made an attempt to see how valuable the Hollow Ancestor’s timeline was and what price she would have to pay.

An image immediately emerged in her mind. She learned that if she were to plunder this item, the gap between the two would be significantly shortened.

More than 90% of the imbalance between them would be bridged, and it would not take long to reach a true equilibrium.

"Is it because of the preciousness of the timeline, or because of our difference in strength?", Liora couldn’t help but wonder and made another attempt.

Soon, she focused on a concept—that of the Four Elements, which the opponent had just plundered.

Information followed. She sensed that plundering it would bridge 10% of the gap between them.

The concept of World, 15%...

The concept of Hollow, 25%...

Liora checked ability after ability, technique after technique.

Soon, her expression grew grim.

"Have you realized?"

As if to taunt her, a voice rang in her ears. It came from the only other individual in this space—the Hollow Ancestor.

"True Balance works exactly like its name would suggest. Given the gap between us, integrating just one of my possessions can help you reach the peak of the Archdevil stage.", he said.

"Two or three of them might help you become a pseudo-Ancient Devil. At that point, the difference in ’weight’ between us will have been almost nullified."

The Hollow Ancestor’s words confirmed Liora’s guesses.

In simple terms, the gap between them was too massive.

Whatever Liora "stole" from her opponent would be of unimaginable value to her.

Unlike the Four Elements Devil, who could only make up for the gap by giving up all his belongings and even the very essence of his existence, the Hollow Ancestor needed not.

All it took was a couple of his possessions, and the gap between them would be made up.

Immediately, Liora fell into deep thought.
