Chapter 545: Human Shrine
Chapter 545: Human Shrine
“You are all the future pillars of our human race. Once my own generation is gone, it will be your turn to carry the flame forward.”
As a group of people walked through a large corridor, the elderly woman at the very front spoke solemnly.
If anyone had witnessed the scene during the Human Emperor Sword’s appearance, they would realize she was the only remaining Elder, the one who was fortunate—or rather unfortunate—to survive.
The Elder glanced at the young men and women walking behind her with faint expectation, as though she could see the future of the human race in their youthful faces.
“You should have all learned of what happened a few days ago.”
“The Human Temple has displayed its might once again. Taking advantage of this time, we are planning to expand our territory beyond the central region.”
“For this, the Elders’ Council has decided to cultivate the next generation.”, the Elder paused briefly before continuing:
“You are all lucky. Under normal circumstances, you would have never had the chance to enter the Human Shrine unless you contributed greatly.”
The Elder did not mention the death of the rest of the Elders, nor talked about the dangers the human race faced.
Instead, she merely positioned everything that happened as the Human Temple and the human race growing stronger.
The youths did not realize anything wrong.
Most of them were filled with excitement.
Though they didn’t know what the Human Shrine referred to, the fact that the Human Temple had gathered young people from all over the continent was evidence of its extraordinary nature.
Their walk did not last for long. Shortly afterward, the group arrived at a gate.
The Elder waved her scepter, and a light shot out of its gem and fell on it. Following a loud creak, the gate was slowly pushed open, revealing the darkness behind it.
The Elder smiled. She turned around and motioned for the youths to step in, not forgetting to give them a final piece of advice:
“You should treasure this opportunity.”
“If you’re fortunate, you have a chance of transforming your strength overnight. Even if you are unlucky, improving your strength and potential is basically guaranteed.”
“Go! You will receive new instructions as soon as you step inside.”, she said.
The youths nodded respectfully. None of them had any questions.
Without any hesitation, they took a step forward and entered the gate.
A black light flashed as their figures quickly vanished, transferred to another space.
The Elder watched this happen, her expression composed. A trace of hope flickered in her eyes.
However, what no one, including her, had realized was that a burst of crimson light flashed in the eyes of one of the many youths.
—
When Aaron opened his eyes, he found himself in a large square, surrounded by thousands of stone human statues.
A flicker of surprise flashed within his eyes.
But as a white light fell from the ceiling and turned into information inside his mind, he quickly understood why he had appeared here.
Human Shrine—the place where the ancestors of the Blood Forest Realm’s human race were enshrined and where they had left their own spirits.
Depending on the potential and temperament of the Awakener who came here, they had a chance of getting benefits by communicating with these spirits.
As long as they gained the human ancestors’ approval, there was even a chance to obtain their complete inheritance.
Aaron found it difficult to keep his composure.
Not only because of the information itself, but also because the Divine Weapon in his mind had reacted to it.
…
“Mission: Obtain the inheritance of one hundred Human Ancestor Spirits.”
“Rewards: Rank 7 Godhead, Fragment of Law, 100x Practice Speed for one week…”
…
Aaron’s excitement surged upon seeing the promised rewards.
The first two were items he didn’t recognize and could thus not estimate their value. However, the last reward was something he had encountered in the past.
Recalling the sensation of the time bending around him and flowing at a different speed than the outside world, Aaron knew he had to do everything in his power to complete this mission!
With that thought, he immediately stepped toward the nearest statue.
It depicted a middle-aged man wearing a red war armor and holding a giant halberd above his head.
Although it was a statue, he exuded a fierce aura that dripped with bloodlust and battle intent.
As Aaron stood before it, the relevant information surfaced in his mind.
According to the earlier message he had received, he would have to urge his own aura to test whether he satisfied the requirements to obtain this man’s inheritance.
Yet just as he was about to do so, a change occurred.
A white brilliance flashed on the statue and quickly grew stronger.
It gathered into a phantom of a middle-aged man above it, much resembling the statue right beneath it.
The warrior pointed his finger, shooting a stream of light at Aaron.
The beam turned into information.
Several Awakener techniques appeared, combined with several insights regarding war and battle.
Aaron also learned the identity of this Human Ancestor Spirit.
He was a person of the era before the Human Emperor’s rise and had fought for centuries against demons to seek a chance of survival.
Seeing this information, admiration arose in Aaron’s heart. He respectfully bowed his head.
Then, still filled with excitement, he moved on to the next statue.
Obtaining the inheritance of a human ancestor was extremely difficult.
Even if one managed to obtain a single inheritance from the thousands of statues, they would be considered lucky.
Yet the moment Aaron stepped near the second statue…
Another beam shot out. Information poured into his mind again.
Aaron grew dazed as he worked to digest it.
However, what Aaron didn’t notice was that the crimson in his eyes had grown deeper.
For a brief moment, it outlined a female human figure. She was sitting with her eyes closed in a dark space, rapidly sifting through the information the physical vessel had just obtained.
—
Liora’s footsteps stopped for a split second, though she quickly recovered from the momentary pause.
No one caught that change, including Ysset, who had shrunk down to the size of a palm and was currently perched on her shoulder like a bird.
“I didn’t expect the Human Temple to have something like that. A demi-plane capable of using the power of faith to keep the consciousnesses of human ancestors alive…”
